Thanks everyone so much for your input on this board! I used soooo much of the info when planning out trip! We just got back late last night. We stayed at GCH from 6/27 - 7/2, and we were in the parks a little bit on 6/27, but mainly 6/29 (Tuesday) - 7/1 (Thursday). I'm working on a trip report, but here's my quick reflection:
*Loved, loved, loved GCH. Totally our speed. We had the 5 for 3 deal; otherwise, it was out of our range for this trip. We were so glad we could stay there. We booked a standard view room, but we were told at check in we were assigned a 4th floor pool view room. Yay!! The pool noise wasn't loud, but we could hear WoC each and every show.
*Speaking of WoC, we skipped it. It was definitely nuts. We did the soft opening at 9:30, but not for WoC FPs. There was a line to get in the GCH entrance, and once in the park, the line for FPs stretched from GRR all the way back to the area at Soarin'. What was irritating was the FPs for WoC on Wednesday weren't over until after mid-day, so we couldn't get GRR FPs until then. We kept checking, but to no avail. While we could hear WoC and see the top of the water from our room, we were able to sleep through the noise. But it's got to be crazy loud in the rooms facing DCA on the PP side.
*I had been scared about the crowds, but they weren't bad AT ALL!! We were past Select SoCal blackouts but right before the normal July blackout period, and I'd heard scary stories about crowd levels for this time. We rarely spent more than 20 minutes in line. Two exceptions - 2nd trip through Peter Pan was almost 30 minutes, and 2nd trip through TSMM was 45 minutes. But both of those were lines we chose to do for a 2nd chance. The longest line I saw the entire time was 65 minutes for Space Mountain. Maybe these are bad for DLR, but for this WDW vet, we just didn't find it bad at all.
*I know this is a somewhat taboo topic, but while I love, love, love WDW, and that's where my heart is always, I did like Disneyland Park itself a smidge better than the Magic Kingdom, and so did DH. Shoot me. Go ahead. DCA, eh, fun but nothing like how I felt across the plaza. California Screamin' is way better than RNRC, though!
There's more, but I'll save it for a trip report. Thanks again!
