Hi everyone! DH, myself, my brother and his girlfriend just got back yesterday from our spur-of-the-moment 5 day trip down to Disney. We stayed off-site for the first time, which neither of us enjoyed. But, we still had a great time...I mean, we were at Disney, right? ;)

So we checked in late Tuesday night (around midnight) at the Royal Plaza in DTD. Overall, the hotel was just ok. Our room was decent. We are just really spoiled as DVC members with accomodations. We had used our allotment of points for this year, and were just looking for a cheap place to stay for a few nights. We booked the Royal Plaza for $79/night....so I would say we got what we paid for. Here are some pics....

The first day we woke up early and went to Animal Kingdom. DH and I had AP's, but my brother and his girlfriend needed to purchase a 4-day hopper. We got to AK around 9ish, and after purchasing tickets, went straight to the safari. We grabbed a fast-pass, and then headed over to Everest. It was crazy over there! We had learned when we went in June that the single rider line was often very short and moved quickly. So, we all got in that line, and were on the ride within 10min!! This is such a great ride...and I am not really fond of rollar coasters! When we were done, we went back over to Africa and ate breakfast at Tusker House before going on the safari. The safari was fun. My brothers girlfriend had never been on it, so it is always fun to see a first-timers reaction to all of the animals! When we got off, the park had really started to fill up. We decided to walk through the jungle trek, and got to see some huge hippos and gorillas - it was just unbelievable how big those hippos were up close!! We walked back toward Everest to attempt to ride it again, but the single rider line was extremely long, and the fast-passes were for five o'clock that night, and we had dinner ressie's for Canada for five. So....we headed on over to Dinasour. They had made a lot of progress on the former Tarzan Rocks theater...it is totally enclosed now (sorry, I didn't get a pic!). We decided to play all the carnival games in the dinasour area - and were good at them!! We won a whole bag full of toys, which my dogs are now enjoying playing with!! :thumbsup2 Dinasour was great (as usual), and we also did Primeval Whirl (which DH refuses to ride...he doesn't do "spinny things"!). We decided we would just snack and forgo lunch, since we wanted to be ready to eat when we got to Canada for dinner!! We were a bit hot and tired by this point, so we headed over to It's Tough to Be a Bug, but the theater was broken ( :confused3 ), and we were told they did not know when it would be working again. I was bummed, b/c this is one of my favorite shows. But, we decided we would head out to have some relaxing time before dinner. We had a big night planned with dinner at Canada, drinking around the world, and then PI at night!! Here are some pics....

Up next...dinner in Canada and around the world at Epcot and late night at PI!

Enjoyed reading your recent report, as we are leaving in 5 days.
(This is our first time going during the heat of the summer.....)
Looking forward to reading more.

wow.....nothing wrong with your accomodations.....the room is beautiful .....thanks for the photos of AK too.....

Thanks for the replies! Yes...the room was nice - it just felt weird not being on Disney property.

So, after we finished at AK, we went back to the Royal Plaza for some rest. We initially wanted to take a short nap, but by the time we got back to the room and hung out for a bit, we had to start getting ready for our 5:00 ressie's at Le Cellier in Canada. Our plan was to to go Epcot for dinner, drink around the world, and then head over to PI for late night fun! We arrived at Epcot around 4:45, and were able to walk over to Canada in plenty of time for our ressie. The hostess was very nice, asking us questions while we waited in the lobby regarding our home states, and what they were known for. She and I chatted about the College Program (I am a previous CP cast member), and she told me how she had interviewed and had been given a position as a lifeguard for the college program, but that 9/11 had occured before she came down, and they had called and told her that her position had been eliminated. How sad! :sad2: She said she re-applied a few years later, and was now there for the international program...and loving it! So dinner was excellent - DH got the salmon, and the rest of us got the filet. Leigha and I got the cheddar cheese soup, and Bryan and my DH got the ceasar salad. Everything was fabulous!

So, we were off to walk around the world and enjoy some drinks. We started in Mexico, and enjoyed some margheritas. These are so yummy! I need one of those machines for my house! We progressed around the world...some of our favorite drinks included some strawberry/champagne drink in Germany, dessert wine in Italy, yards of beer in the UK, and frozen gray goose slushies in France! We were having a blast!

We watched Illuminations (which always takes my breath away!), and then headed over to PI to dance the night away. We love going to the Adventurer's Club (Disney...please don't tear this down!!!), and also went and danced at Motion and the the 70s/80s club. We ended the night making best friends with the man who sells Gyro's on the main street (who told us that once PI had its complete makeover, he would no longer be able to sell there.... :sad2: ). It was a long 1st day, but we had a blast! I think we finally went to bed around 2:30am....yikes! Next up...MGM and more PI!!

Love the report so far. I think the room at Royal Plaza is very nice, but.......it's not Disney. It seems like you enjoyed yourselves nonetheless! Can't wait to read more.

BTW, are you a teacher? ;) I haven't started work yet - we go back after labor day - so I can't start an end of the year countdown, unless you count my Polynesian ticker as one! LOL!

Scanne - I am a Speech-Language Pathologist, and work in a middle school. I don't really go back to school until Monday, but when I removed my vacation ticker (and didn't have a new vacation one to take its place!), I decided to put an "end of the year" countdown instead. ;) The summer went by way too quickly!

Yes, the Royal Plaza was nice, but we missed being immersed in the "Disney Magic" :wizard: . We knew we wouldn't be at the resort much this trip, since it was only 5 days, so we didn't think we would mind it much. But, we really did end up missing hearing that "Welcome Home"!

I heard there is a lot of construction going on at DTD, I wonder to if Adventure Club is going to be in the wrecking balls path. You don't hear to much of what is going on over there, and what plans are.

Thanks for posting and great pic's, hope to see more.

Loving the report! Wonderful pictures, I love them. Keep em comin! :) :wizard:
