Hi all,

Returned from our 11th trip this morning.

Great time as always, stayed at a villa at Indian Creek, ideal for easy access to the 192/I4.

Still major roadworks all over, quite often tailbacks on the I4 up to the US27 - didn't really affect us where we were staying.
The Kissimmee exit off the I4 going west - 64B - is still open, going East it is shut so use exit 65.

Food wise, Outback restaurant still great - actually had a really good KFC too, quite surprised much nicer than here in the UK, dissapointed with the breakfast at the nearby Ponderosa, food/price was ok but there was leftovers all over the floor, tables supported by folded napkins etc, just didn't feel clean.
The one near south I drive is much better.
Used the Publix at Orange Lake for groceries etc

Weather a bit dissapointing, mostly cloudy ideal for theme parks but would have liked a bit more sun for our rest days.
Quite cold in the morning's the first week we were there and actually affected our Discovery Cove trip. Our 'slot' was 12pm but we didn't get into the water till 1.30pm due to a thunderstorm. The water was quite cold and our son Joshua had had enough after a little while (he is autistic). He liked touching the Dolphin, Cindy, and the staff were brilliant, we were just unlucky with the weather.

Theme parks got much busier over the Easter weekend, Joshua had a fantastic time particularly on the Woody Coaster and the Popeye Barges at Universal - still his favourite park.
We got an Express pass from Guest Services for disabled use, which meant we got through the back door on a few rides, only downside is you have to renew it each day you visit.
Not really bothered what rides we get on, just tend to make sure Joshua is sorted and anything else is a bonus for us.
We bought the Annual Pass as we are going again in August, saved lots of money on purchases around the parks and not having to pay car parking fees.
The gate price for the 5 day Flexi Ticket is actually dearer than the Annual.

One thing that has definitely got worse is the standard of driving, we have been loads of times now but while the cars are easy to drive and the navigation still ok, thanks to my wife!!, you need to be much more careful.
Driving whilst using the mobile appears to be mandatory, in fact the use of the phone whilst waiting for a ride, paying for an item of clothing and riding Shrek (yes someone was on the phone !!!!!!)....just never seen so many people on the mobile generally.

Some great evenings at Old Town, met loads of really friendly people - parking as always at weekends not easy, even with our disabled badge.

Quite a lot of turbulence on the flight home, down the east coast of America, sums up the recent bad weather generally. Anyone who flies with Virgin from Manchester will probably know that the current 747-200 Island Lady is being replaced in May by a newer 747-400 plane.
IL is actually being sold to a Russian Airline, just in case you ever visit Moscow :-)
As usual very impressed by Virgin, we got our usual bulkhead seats both ways, a little bit slow checking in at Downtown Disney, we got there quite early.

Plenty of shopping, usual stuff cuddly toys for Joshua, handbags for Julie and Tommy Bahama shirts for me.

Welcome back Johnny!

I'm sorry the weather wasn't the best for you. It will be hotter in August :teeth:

I know what you mean about the driving. we thought it had got worse, too.

Funnily enough we didn't see many mobiles at all - we laughed once or twice that in the UK everyone is walking down the street talking on them but we saq hardly any in Florida. This could just show how unobservant we are, however!

Still sounds like you had a great trip which is all that counts :)

Cheers

Karen

Yes we did, thanks Karen.

Joshua loved it and if he is happy so are we.

Welcome Back Johnny. Sounds like you had a fab time :)

We are looking forward to eating at Outback again.

Explain more about the driving getting worse?, we have found the driving fine everytime we have been, certainly comapred to Nottingham !!

How old is your son?? Out of interest - thinking about taking my daughter.

Kevin, never been to Nottingham but the standard of driving near where we live isn't that clever either.

I have found driving in Florida has been such a pleasure the times we have visited but over the past couple of years I think the level of traffic has increased a lot, what we find these days is that there is not the same level of courtesy shown and that cars constantly move in and out of lanes often dangerously.
The number of people who drive whilst on the phone is very high.

It's not that it's worse than in the UK, it's just that it used to be so much better.

Our son is 8, he has been I think 5 times now, to be honest we possibly started taking him too soon.

Hi, we are stopping at Liki Tiki in Kissimmee in two weeks time.
Are there ant tips of where we can go in the evening away from Disney.
Any advise is apprciated. :bounce: :hourglass :earboy2:

Welcome Home

Sounds like you had a great time.

Yes thanks Squitty we did.

Whisky In A VAse - whilst I would say Kissimmee is an excellent base for a holiday as far as attractions go you are a bit limited.
Mainly becuase on the stretch of the 192 you basically have shops/restaurants and hotels.
Old Town is definitley worth a visit though and is totally different to anything you will experience in Orlando.

hi!!! welcome home!!!!
can you tell me what the food was like on the plane/
and what did you get to eat?

The food on the plane, I had the kiddies meal on the way out because my little boy didn't want it and I much preferred the Sausage and Mash to what was on offer.
Unfortunatley, even the Sausages had 'bits in them', give me 'Walls' anyday...

My wife had Beef in red wine sauce on the plane to Orlando and Chicken Barbecue on the way back, she liked the CB but didn't enjoy the beef.
Lasagne was one of the options on the way back also.
Cannot remember the rest.

As normal we were served sandwiches approx. 1hr 30 mins before landing on the way out and a muffin and Orange Juice for breakfast on the way back.

To put it mildly I am a fussy eater, very plain in fact - whilst Virgin get awards for their selections I would rather have Egg and Chips anyday, although quite how they would fry them I do not know.. :-)

Hiya Johnny

We got back on 01.04.05 and I agree about the weather (although we were lucky at Discovery Cove and thunderstorms waited until 4.45ish - our dolphin was Rose, the mouthy/vocal one of the pod, funny that my mother-in-law is called Rose :teeth: ), the driving and mobile phone use. We actually had a mobile ringing all during our Duelling Dragon Ice ride.

Hiya, hope you had a great time.

I mean Mobile's are part of life everywhere these days but have never really
noticed it before.
Apart from people using them at the parks 1 thing that really annoyed me is a couple of times I was in a store waiting to pay and the person in front was too busy chatting to pay for what he/she was buying, even in q's at restaurants there was generally someone on the phone.

The weather was a bit dissapointing, the nicest day we had was the day we were flying home :-(

Johnny

Sounds like you and your family had a great holiday :cheer2: Joshua must of loved the dophins :Pinkbounc

I'm really looking forward to my trip in June

LOL - Fussy eater? I am the original fussy eater, I won't even eat egg!! On our last flight they gave me a childs meal because I didn't like anything available and one of the cabin staff gave me the apple and crisps from her lunch !!

Hi Johnny,

We just got back yesterday - after two and a bit weeks over there. The weather did improve after you left - the past few days being hot and (mostly) sunny. We had changed our plan around a bit and so went to both BB & TL in our last 3 days. I think everyone decided to do the same thing and BB was horrendously busy on Tuesday - barely any room between sunbeds to walk through.

We agree totally about the standard of driving. We arrived on the evening of 16th Mar to torrential rain which lasted well over 24 hours - during which we saw the aftermath of at least 4 accidents! We saw numerous others - including coach accidents - over the rest of the holiday - probably at least one per day.

We also thought it was much busier this Easter at the parks than last year. MK was heaving even on Monday 21st March - with enormous queues and wait times of over 2 hours on many rides.

:-) Hey maybe I hve found someone who is fussier than me.
I tend to have the Childs meal too.
Think Virgin are trying to be a bit fancy with their food and should just stick to the basics.

Michelle,
yes he did thanks, we were just a bit unlucky with the weather - the water was quite cold by the time we eventually had our slot, following a very bad thunderstorm, and it did sort of spoil it a bit. The staff were really helpful though.

Hi Julie, yes the forecast when we were out there was for better weather, the day we flew home was the nicest of our trip :-(
Should be a different story on our August trip.
Glad that you had better weather than us.

We think the standard of driving has declined over the past few years, it's not that it's worse than in the UK just not as good as it used to be.

I am a nightmare eating wise. I can't eat onion - makes me ill for some reason, so if we go anywhere I have to ask, also check ingredients when shopping. I hate all salad, indian, chinese food also, anything with fat on, pasta, egg, tomato sauce - counts out pizza, the list continues....

If we order food when out, it has to be garnish free or I can't eat it.
