My family (2adults & 3 children) just got back. We were at Disney (POR) from June 25th to June 30th and then went to Universal. We were on the meal plan and we thought it was very good and definitely worth the money. The total cost for my family was $100 per day. We averaged spending between $175 -$200 per day if we did not have the meal plan. Our dinner was always at least $100, so we basically got lunch and part of our breakfast and a snack each day for free. We split our counter service meals between lunch (usually 3) and breakfast (usually 2). At breakfast we usually paid between $5 - $10 dollars out of pocket instread of using a counter service credit.
If we were not on the meal plan, we probably would not have spent between $175 -$200 per day, but we still would hav espent more thna $100. Teh meal plan allowed us to not have to worry about what we ordered on teh menu and just enjoy ourselves. It definitely made this vacation more enjoyable.
Here are quick reviews of where we ate:
6/25 - Dinner at Boatwrights
The food was good and service was fine. It was a nice change from the fast ffod along I-95. I had the ribs and I couldn't come close to finishing them. They were good, I have had better and I have had worse. I would order them again. I would also suggest that this plate can be split between 2 adults. They gave me at least a full rack and a half plus sweet potato fries and cole slaw.
6/26 - Breakfast at POR Counter Service
We ate here each morning and had a variety of things ranging from eggs and oatmeal to cold cereal. Everything was fine. The cashiers were very liberal in regards to having us fully utilize the counter service credits (ie allowed us to get muffins as the desert, allowed us to get chocolate milk as a snack credit)
6/26 - Lunch at Sunshine Seasons in the Land at Epcot
It was nice change from the typical burger or chicken fingers. My wife and I both had a chicken type of salad with some bread and the kids each had a chicken leg with mashed potatos and apple sauce.
6/26 Dinner at Teppanyaki
This was a great meal. One of my kids had the shrimp, one had teh beef and one had teh chicken. My wife had the chicken and shrimp I beleive and I had the 11oz steak. My wife also had a salad as an appetizer and I had a Tuna roll. The food was very good and the kids had fun watching the meal being prepared.
6/27 Breakfast at POR Counter Service
6/27 Lunch at Backlot Express at MGM
We had burgers and chicken fingers. Everything was fine.
6/27 Dinner at Mama Melrose
This was a very good meal. I had the Veal Osso Bucco. It was very good. As an appetizer I ordered teh tommato and mozzarel. My wife had the penne ala vodka and fried calamari as an appetizer. My kids had a combination of pasta and chicken parm.
6/28 Breakfast at POR Counter Service
6/28 Lunch at Pecos Bills
Good burgers and chicken. My wife had some sort of slad with chicken. Her only complaint was that theer were to mnay onions in it.
6/28 Dinner at Ohana
Very good. The kids had fun with the coconut races and hula hoop contaest. I thought the beef and pork was very good. I'm not a big shrimp person, but I also liked the shrimp. We took the boat to the Poly from MK and the monorail back. The boat was very relaxing.
6/29 Breakfast at POR Counter Service
6/29 Lunch at PIzzafari
The pizza was fine and the restaurant was not to crowded. I actually would suggets the Flame Tree BBQ, but we didn't feel like having a heavy lunch. We ordered 3 pizzas and ahred them between my family. For Desert we got 3 frozen lemonades.
6/29 Dinner at Planet Hollywoof at Downtown Disney
This was a last minute change. We originally planned to eat at teh Liberty Tree Tavern but we did everything we wnated to do at MK teh previous day and decided to to go to AK with our last park pass (we did not have hoppers). The day before I got the reservation at POR concierge and wasn't expecting much, but I really enjoyed the meal. I had the blue cheese steak and it was very good. When we made teh reservation, teh POR concierge told us that the menu was restricted because of teh meal plan, so I was expecting to order from a limited selection. I was wrong. The only limitation was on teh surf and turf. If I ordered that then they would charge and additional $7. The food and deserts were very good.
If nayone has any questions about individual restaurants or the meal plan, just ask and I will try to answer.
