Eventually got up out of the pit!

A few observations/reviews from our trip.

Some places where we ate -

Chefs de France (dinner)- nice place, very nice attentive server - DH and myself had the 'French menu' - French onion soup with cheese (large portion - couldn't finish it), chicken and creme brulee. DD had kids meal. Came to $100 including tip (I did have my DDE card though - this covered the tip at all sit down meals - get 20% off). A

Donalds Breakfastasaurus - a surprisingly good one as there has been very mixed reviews on these boards. We had a late sitting and the place was less than half full. Good choice of food - all hot and fresh, although they did remove the items pretty quickly to get ready for lunch - if we had wanted seconds, it would have been tough. One little niggle - presented my DDE card but then the server gave me my old bill back again without the 20% off. Didn't know if this was genuine or not - seemed a nice guy, so I'll give him benefit of the doubt. B+

CRT breakfast - booked a late seating on the first full morning of our stay - was an EMH morning when I booked, which would have given us 2 and a half hours on the attractions before breakfast, but Disney changed the day of EMH just before we went, so we had only one and a half hours instead. Breakfast was good as always but I think that this is a great one to get you in the mood on the first morning. B+

Crystal Palace (dinner) - this was our third time dining here (and the best!). Now my DD is 11 she has to pay full price - should be at all meals but she only had the kids meal at other restaurants for which they only charged the kids price. Buffets though we did get charged full price - here she ate 2 slices of pizza and 3 chicken legs (ie ate more than normal!). I didn't make the fatal mistake of stuffing myself this time and enjoyed it more - the salmon was fabulous! Oh and the Key Lime Pie (DH said it was the best thing he had eaten at a meal in WDW). Still took ages for the characters to get round though - waited for Pooh for some time after we had finished eating. A

Artist Point (dinner)- very quiet when we visited but the food and service were exceptional. We actually dressed up a bit for this one (still no straighteners though :goodvibes ) Had the salmon followed by the Berry Cobbler (can't remember what we had for starters). Not so posh not to be very kid friendly though - kids get to colour a picture of MIckey which they put up on the wall near the entrance and get a 'Certificate of Achievement'. A++

50's Prime Time (dinner) - Great theming - really good, fun server and not as wild as I'd imagined (did get the feeling he was holding back a bit with us though - maybe cos we're British?) I had the beef and DH had the meatloaf - portions were'nt quite so large as in other places (perhaps a good thing!) Would go back. B+

Whispering Canyon (dinner) - Only DH and myself went this time - DD wasn't keen last time and wanted to go in the kids club instead (which she loved). I had the chicken (again) and DH had meatloaf (again). As we were only a couple, server left us alone really (slightly disappointed). B

Did book one or two other AR's - had problems with my stomach and couldn't go unfortunately - will have to go to San Angel, Cape May (breakfast) and 'Ohanas breakfast next time. The reason we do 'Ohanas was because we had got over to the Poly and saw a huge tour group ready to go in at the same time so we turned tail and went straight to MK instead. It was our last morning and these large tour groups had been a bit of an issue all holiday.

We also ate at several counter service restaurants - Staring Rolls (ate there 3 times - fantastic sandwiches), Columbia Harbour House, Tangierine Cafe, chippy in UK at Epcot, Flame Tree, Pizzafari, Pinocchio Village Haus, Typhoon Tillys and POP food court. If you need a lowdown on any of these please ask.

great review, thanks

we have got crt donalds and cp on our list.....we also have ohanas and 50s prime time :Pinkbounc
i would love to hear what you reccomend at the pop food court :)
i love dining reviews :)

Fantastic reviews Pigby!!

We are doing Crystal Palace & WCC next trip. Will keep my fingers crossed for the key lime pie at CP!

I would like to know what you made of the pizzas at Pizzafari. I have heard they are awful but I like the look of the place - is the atmosphere and surroundings enough to make up for microwaved pizza, LOL? I don't mind if the pizza is just okay, but if it's truly nasty I probably would give it a miss.

You ate at lots of my fave places - Starring Rolls, 50s PTC, Tangierine Cafe, Flame Tree etc :)

Wonderful reviews - thankyou!
Can you tell me about the berry cobbler at Artists Point? I`m pleased you enjoyed it there as me and DH are going to try it in Nov.

At the POP food court, I really enjoy the nachos (no taco salad though - like ASMo) and also if you like Chinese - they have prawns with noodles in a kind of soy sauce - you get it from the same counter but the name escapes me..

Miffy

I'm afraid I didn't try the pizza at Pizzafari - we have the Italian deli sandwiches but the cheese pizza went down well with DD. Forgot to use my DDE card here.

The Berry Cobbler is fresh berries like rasperries, blueberries etc (not well up on my berries) with kind of a 'scone-like' base and ice cream - it was very nice.

Forgot to mention a really special counter service restaurant at Downtown Disney - The Earl of Sandwich - we visited twice as the sandwiches were so good and $4.95 each - the kids ones (which were just as big were $3.95) - great value (we went to Subway over here today to recapture the memory but of course, weren't as good).

Decided it was time to renew by research on WDW.
Now this is a good thread to start on :teeth:

funny you should mention the Earl of Sandwich....we went to DTD when we first arrived at WDW right after checking in at OKW because we needed to buy our APs and the kids wanted to buy My Pal Mickey before we entered any of the theme parks.....when we got to DTD, we were starving so we looked around for some place to eat and saw the Earl of Sandwich, which was new since our last visit.....my son liked the sandwich so much he kept suggesting that we go there throughout our WDW visit....i think in total, we went there 4 times over the course of the 2 weeks.....

we also went to the prime time cafe (as we always do)....we had a 12:30 reservation, but when we got to MGM and found out that the car stunt show was at 12:30, we decided to try to see if we could get lunch at 11:30 instead....so we walked in and were seated right away....the restaurant was empty at that time (which is never true at 12:30 when it's usuallly already packed).....it was wonderful eating there when it wasn't packed to the rafters...
our server was also great....i think his name was "uncle" tim and he was a riot....he gave us a very hard time and we couldn't stop laughing throughout lunch...

we ate at the chrystal palace for breakfast and were very pleasantly surprised by how orderly it was, how quickly the characters got to us, etc...
we decided on it at the last minute as a surprise for my mom...i was able to get reservations only 2 days in advance.....in fact i was able to get all of our reservations at the last minute...

we also ate at the plaza restaurant in the MK, which is one of my favorite quickie lunchtime sit down restaurants.....it's like an island of peace and quiet compared to the rest of the park...

we also had a snack at cafe tangierine in epcot....humus and pitas.....quite good...and since it was at an odd hour, there was no line.....actually no one in the place but us....

Hiya!

Quick question from a newbie on restaurants onsite. I rang to make a reservation at a restaurant (Le Cellier) because i'm Canadian and thought it would be a hoot for my husband to try some Canadian beef! As we're staying off-site we don't anticipate eating too many meals at Disney as they are kinda pricey. So I rang and the woman didn't have a table for 2 the dates I gave her but told me its because the restaurant is more of a family restaurant and doesn't have a lot of table for 2's and she can't book a 4 seater for only 2 people. But she told me not to worry as we're going in September we shouldn't have much trouble getting a table at any of the restaurants if we just pitch up on the day. Do you reckon this is true?

We would like to eat at a couple if we can. Although the Living Seas will be closed in September (how disappointing!) the Coral Reef restaurant will still be open apparently. That might be kinda neat.

Would appreciate your thoughts! Ta very much :)
