Well, we just got back from 7 nights in DW. We stayed at the cabins (2300 loop) which was great. I must say that I have heard a lot of undeserved criticisms for the Fort Wilderness bus system. I thought it was great. I never had to wait more than 20 minutes for a bus and they took us everywhere we needed to go. It was great not having to drive anywhere myself.
I would highly recommend the FW cabins. It was perfect for our family of five because the kids had their own room, my DW and I had some private time, and we saved a bit of money cooking our own food a few days. Overall, my impressions were as follows:
Fort Wilderness: Awesome. Great transportation system, the campfire and movie were fun, the pools were ok and convenient, and the people were great. I really loved the ferry ride to the MK. It was a nice relaxing ride back after a high energy day at the park. The mini speedboats were kind of lame though. It appeared to me that the other hotels had better and faster boats. I tried four different boats and they were all very slow and I am not a big guy so I don't think weight was a factor. Talking to other guests, they all agreed with me regarding the speed of the boat. I think they need to upgrade the boat motors.
Theme Parks: They were a wee bit too crowded but not overly so. We were able to ride all the rides at least once and most times 3-4 times using FASTPASS and waiting on some 25-30 minute lines. The price of food was outrageous but not unexpected as we brought our own for the most part. One restaurant I thought was way overpriced was the Brown Derby at Epcot. It was quite expensive and the quantity of food was small.
Water parks: We did Typhoon Lagoon and thought it was fun. My 6 yr old DS went down his first waterslide and thought it was great.
Weather: Most afternoons it rained but the temperature was not overly hot except for a few days but nothing that we couldn't handle.
Shows: We did the Luau at the Polynesian. The show was okay but the food was not worthy of the price. I think the show could have been better if they did more traditional polynesian songs/dances at the beginning instead of the phony theme of the returning family. I would not go again!!!
Character Meal: We did Chef Mickey's for Breakfast on morning and the kids loved it. The food was pretty good and the characters were very interactive and the whole family had fun. We had pictures with all the characters that were there!!
Overall, a great trip and can't wait to go back again. Our kids want to move there!!!
If anyone has questions, please ask and I will answer if I can.
