We stayed at the Fort Wilderness Cabins for our Disney vacation. We were there from Sun, November 27th to Thursday, December 1st. Here are my opinions and observations.

We LOVED the cabins, like, loved them. Most people have golf carts. There are only 4 regular car parking spots at the main pool, and none at the marina area. We did not get a cart, and we were fine with the internal transportation.

Cabins:
They were very nice and spacious. The main room had the queen sized bed and two bunks. The queen bed was the most comfortable by far. My kids slept on the bunks, and they were fine for them, but one night my husband tried to sleep on the top bunk, and it was too short for him (he is 6 foot). The couch hide-a-way was better than most couch beds, but not super comfortable. The living area was large and had plenty of space for us (4 adults, 2 kids and an infant) between the couch and the dining room table. The cabins have plenty of storage imo for our stay as well. We had no problem with only one bath. We planned it out and some people got ready at night, and some did in the morning.

Transportation:
Golf carts make things a lot easier. There are plenty of cart parking spots all around. We did not have a golf cart, but once we realized the buses take you everywhere, we were fine. We had a bus stop close by our cabin which was nice. We never waited more than 5 minutes for any bus. They run like clockwork and there are always multiple buses running. It was very efficient. The buses went to the pool and marina as well as most cabin loops. The line for the boat can get pretty long, but the boat that takes you to MK holds plenty of people, and we never waited for a second boat. The ride over was quick and easy. I read a lot about the transportation being a downfall of the cabins, but we didn't find this at all. To be fair, we only used the boat, we drove our own car to AK, so I can't say whether the bus to this park was slow or not.

Atmosphere: The cabins were so relaxing. It felt good to get back after long days and relax. We had lots of space, and it was so quiet. I have a 5 month old, so not worrying about our neighbors hearing her every cry was very nice. I found the cabins to be chill and relaxed. I have stayed at the hotels before, and this was definitely a whole different feel. We were there early, but many people still had lights up. It was very nice.

Food: We ate at two different places on the grounds. We went to Hoop de Doo the first night. The first 15 or so minutes was pretty lame, so I was a bit disappointed, but the show picked up and it ended up being really cute and funny. The food was ok, but not amazing, except the cornbread. If I could have smuggled some cornbread home to eat the rest of the week, I would have. The chicken and ribs were fine, but nothing to write home about. Same with the sides. Overall, I found it was worth my money because my kids (4 and 6) had a great time.
The last night we ate at the Trail End's buffet. This buffet was excellent imo. They had SO much food, and almost everything I tried was very good. I asked my older son what his favorite food this trip was, and he said Trail's end.

Pool: We only had time to go to the pool once. It has one corkscrew slide. My kids had so much fun. They rode the slide at least 20 times. They have life jackets that can be borrowed, and a whole other side with splash pads for smaller kids. My kids had a blast and didn't want to leave.

So, I really have nothing negative except maybe more walking than I'd like at the end of a long day, but even then, the buses were efficient and the walk could be minimized by getting a golf cart or requesting a cabin close to a bus stop.

Feel free to ask any question if you had any. Hope this helps anybody trying to decide if a cabin is good for them.

Glad you had a great trip! We also love the cabins.

At first, I thought you were saying that there is not cart parking at the pool or marina but then realized you probably meant car parking. Just didn't want people to be misled as there is lots of golf cart parking at the marina. The cart parking at the pool is accessed from the road behind the pool not by the store. You park there for the campfire program too.
At the fort, they only want people driving cars/trucks to leave and return to the campground. Therefore there is no car parking at the marina.

We only used disney transportation to and from all the parks. We never felt we had excessively long waits except one night getting back from studios. The rest of the 8 days we had excellent bus and boat service.

I am glad you had such a good time. We've never stayed in the cabins but we always stay at Fort Wilderness in our trailer. It's such a relaxing resort. And we've never done a golf cart. We bring bikes or use the buses and the buses are really quick and convenient.

We visited for the first time in August and absolutely loved it there. So much so, that during our October trip, we returned and hired bikes for the day (which it was too hot to do in August).

The one bathroom has always held me back from staying in a cabin (4 adults and 2 kids, age 12 and 7). I don't think we would be able to work it out as well as you did, lol! Are there any bath houses near the cabins? I figured not, but thought I'd ask!

When we were there 2 years ago, we had a cabin near one of the quiet pools - my mom went over there a couple times to use the shower, laundry, etc!

We had a cabin right near the front quiet pool. And the wife cooked every meal on vacation...she wanted to. I would go back again in a heartbeat.

There are comfort stations which I believe may be showers for campers. I'm not sure of there is a loop of cabins close enough to one to make sense.

It really wasn't bad. We hardly had any conflicts. Myself and my husband got ready at night. Kids got bathed at night. My parents took showers and got ready in the AM.

Surprisingly, nobody really needed to go at the same time!

There is not a shower at the quiet pool- just a restroom and the laundry. Cabin loop 2200 would be closest to a campsite loop which would have a shower.
We had 3 adults, 2 kids on our last trip. Usually 2 adults showered in the morning, 1 adult at night, and the 2 kids usually showered when we took an afternoon break after swimming. We found that there was enough hot water for 2 showers but if a 3rd shower would end up getting cold. But we're used to having to coordinate showers from having a camper. Disney really should've put on demand hot water heaters in with the refurb. I've been to KOA cabins that have those.

Glad you had a great trip! We always stay in the cabins when we take the kiddos, lots of room, don't have to keep them super quiet, and think the transportation is generally great. Love having the kitchen, use our leftovers and grab quick breakfasts. Quiet and beautiful, will be back in May!

This topic comes up from time to time on the DIS Camping Board (which includes all thing Fort Wilderness and thus the cabins). :flower:http://www.disboards.com/forums/camping-at-disney-world.24/

For those that want to off-load some bathroom capacity from their cabin, we recommend a cabin in loop 2200. If you get/request a very low number cabin near the entrance (2201, 2202, etc.), then you can send some of your party across the road to the Comfort Station between the camping loop 1100 and 2100 (which was a cabin loop until earlier this year so the map is a little out of date).

Here is a map:

See the yellow "CS" in the 1100 loop? That's the comfort station with showers, etc. - It actually sits on the outside of the 1100 loop next to 2100. I stayed in cabin 2202 a long time ago and it would have worked for us. Call Mousekeeping the night before to get extra towels if your party will need them.

It can work!

We had four adults and one five year old. We used the kitchen sink for putting in contacts and brushing teeth which freed up the bathroom for showering. Hair drying was done in the bedroom, not bathroom so the only thing we used the bathroom for was the toilet and showering. Even with four adults, it took less than an hour each morning of actual bathroom time. We just made sure my husband went in first since he took the longest in the shower. The five year old bathed at night.

Thank you for your review! We're staying there for the first time next month. Looking forward to a new Disney experience.

We were in 2602...a 2 minute walk to the pool...if that long.

Thank you for your review. I camped at Fort Wilderness with my parents many years ago. Since I'm grown now with my own family and no camper, we stay in hotels but try to visit FW at least once each trip. There is something special about FW. I might need to consider the cabins for a future trip.

We just stayed in a Cabin for the first time over Halloween. Which was AMAZING. My husband LOVED LOVED the cabins; he is a camping type. (Tent camping I mean-- not with me!). Personally, i like HOTELS, lol. So the cabins were harder for me to love. In the end, I only liked them, but husband loved them. And I certainly loved some things at FW. I loved the golf carts, and the Halloween decorations and activities. It was just so different to me. But all around us were frequent FW guests, and they were having so much fun. Kids running around, biking, swimming, hiking. The parks, sure, but many stay for a few weeks at the Fort, so they relax, too. Husband liked it, wanted to walk around and meet people, sit down and play cards, etc. I was like, let's go to a park! LOL.

My kids would have loved it when they were young. It was me, DH, and my adult special needs son. So the layout is not ideal. He slept in lower bunk, which is super low, he could not even sit up in it, but he got used to it. I took the bed, and DH out on the couch, because of the snoring bothering DS.

We are returning over Halloween again this year. The cart parade and decorated sites won us over!

So if I rented a golf cart while there. Do you drive to the bus/boat area and leave it while you are at the parks? Is there a time limit for being parked in spots?

Just booked my cabin and golf cart!!! Going first week of June. Thanks for the amazing review! It seems to be a favorite spot for sure!! So excited
