We stayed in room 3523 in the GV concierge from Nov.30-Dec.4th. We have stayed here before in room 3520, 3521, and have had a really great time, but this time even though we liked our room, our requests for being near the lounge were not met but that was no big deal!! However, after Roy Disney had to cancel the CP. we also cancelled and were told we would receive a credit on our Disney credit card. After arriving on Nov.30th we checked in at the Concierge Lounge and for the very first time our room wasn't ready but that was understandable due to the Thanksgiving holiday. We checked in with a fellow by the name of Lou who I honestly thought was very rude and didn't seem to care about our requests. I should note that we really didn't have requests but 1 request which was just to be near the lounge although not guaranteed it would be noted!! He also proceded to tell us that we had a CP package for 6:45 that very evening and we told him that we had cancelled due to Roy Disney's medical emerengency and that we were given a cancellation # and would not be attending. He acted like he was very annoyed and called Disney Dining and after what seemed forever he did confirm that we were right about the cancellation and it wasn't noted on his computer. Now folks having stayed here a few times and once for 10 nights in the summer of 2001 I to say the least wasn't impressed with the way this fellow was acting!! Now having said all that NEGATIVE but true statement we honestly after that had a great time!! We went to MVMCP twice on the 1st and the 3rd and had a ball. The rooms seemed fine with me but after reading so much info. on Tikiman's site as well as other people having said that towel animals as well as other surprises from Mousekeeping were done for them, absolutely not one were ever done for us except for the turndown service which I thought did a very good job and also our last night like our previous stay we received a note and a chocolate bar with the edible poly front on the bar if all that makes since. This is after we even tipped Mousekeeping!! We got to talk with Chief Dick and even took a picture along with himself and our 2 daughters. He as always was so VERY nice and also entertaining when he was carving out animals and such with fruits and vegetables!! He told my wife and I where he first got the idea which I found very interesting and as always entertaining!!! It does seem that the staff in Concierge has slipped in performance from our last stay in the summer of 2001!! They could use a little people skills when it comes to dealing with the public!! Now I know a lot of people have recently stayed at the Poly and have had rave reviews about the concierge staff but this particular stay had a few glitches and even though we had a few problems believe me after having said all that we would still stay at the Poly!! LOL!!!!!

Welcome back Chip!
Glad you had a great time. Have dealt with "Lou" as well, ditto on your comment. He seems to always be annoyed. However... Tara and the rest of the group are always so wonderful it makes up for him. I choose to walk right past him and deal with another wonderful cast member that way I don't have to deal with his 'tude. Its a shame how much of a impression he made on your trip. I don't want to bash a CM but he's over the top.

Chef Dick is awesome! That's the first person my daughter wants to visit upon arrival "Chef Ick" (she's three, what can I say). He is great with kids and is always so accomodating! He is a sweetheart.

Hey Tinky thanks for your response!!! It wasn't that this fellow LOU made our whole trip HORRIBLE, it was just that my wife and I were very shocked on how the Concierge staff have slipped on the way they treat people or {GUESTS} . I don't mean to make this trip report sound so negative but just wanted to relay some information on how the concierge staff has changed since our last visit in the summer of 2001!!!!! I couldn't agree more on Chief Dick!!! Thanks, Chip.

we will be there next week, if we happen to get Lou at check in I can really make him annoyed (I have that skill) Thanks for the warning :)

How were the food selections? We are a family that loves to enjoy the concierge offerings.

Welcome home.

Chip64, thanks for the excellent trip report. I have not stayed at the Poly yet myself, however, I will stay there one of these trips. I am sorry to hear about this "Lou" person, but I am glad that you did not let him put a damper on your magical vacation. If you have any photos posted, please post the link to them here. I would love to view them. Again, welcome home!

I had a trip report from this summer and I said similar things. The problem was that many people thought they should not stay at the Polynesian because I said the concierge was not the same experience I had in other years. I agree it was not the same but if I did not have the other years to compare to I would not have noticed a thing. They just went waaaaay beyond the call of duty in past years and so last summer did seem a little off. We got a talking stitch and some birthday and anniversary gifts along with the good by chocolate bar post card but no towel animals for the first time this summer. The thing is I do not go for the towel animals as I am sure you don’t either. I know exactly what you are saying and it is hard to be honest about some experiences with out freaking everyone out who is going to be staying there. I would go back and will go back even if I knew it would be just like my last trip.

Thanks for the report.

Aloha

Steve

I'm glad you didn't let Lou spoil your trip!

We really want to give Poly Conc a try. Hopefully, we'll stay a few days in June--if I can get a good AP rate!;)

It used to be a CM named "Orlando" that was indifferent and a bit difficult. "Lou" must be the token slacker in his stead! :)

Actually, my husband had a "moment" with him as well. The attitude didn't work for my husband and he let him know it, politely--of course. He waited to speak with another staff member and found her most helpful and accommodating.

Sometimes you just have to speak your peace, politely but firmly. CMs are just people too--unfortunately some of them just aren't cut out for the jobs they hold.

BTW, we've had that same room in the past, too! ;)
