Me and My BF left Friday for DISNEY! and had the best time of our lives!

EVERYTHING was going great until a couple hours before we had to head home.

On Sunday I bought 3 pick a pearl and had them all set. We decided to get one for a friend who's birthday is tomorrow before we left. Well we waited the 50 min and when I got there they had set the pearl ( 7 1/2 mm really nice pink ) on the wrong set. I explained that I had no time and didn't want the pearl to be ruined. The manager was called and basically told me I can give you the display( which was 6 mm and the setting was scratched up) OR just return my money. I didn't think this was fair. The whole point is that you picked the pearl your self . If I wanted one already picked I could just get a necklace anywhere.

I then Asked If I could keep my original pearl and they said no. They are going to use it.

I think I am over analyzing this but I work in retail, I know this could of been handled a lot better than either No pearl or a smaller, scratched one.

I wanted to try to pick a new pearl but they wouldn't allow it . I feel a bit cheated

I don't blame you for feeling that way. That's not a very Disney way to handle things.
Kinda like when my mom and I had a reservation at Cape May and about 20 groups of people got sat before us, most with no reservations and we had been waiting for 45 mins while walk ups got sat immediately. We asked the host why this was happening and he said basically they were waiting for a two seater to free up and that we would be next. Well he lied because we weren't next, but also I think that is very unfair. Just because my mom and I were a small party doesn't mean we should get the shaft. We had reservations. The manager gave us a free meal though so I guess in the end Disney handled it correctly.
I'm sorry to kinda hijack your post. I just wanted to say that I think there is a certain idea that Disney service should be bar none (and it really should be) since everything is supposed to be magical, and sometimes it isn't. Your pearl situation definitely could have been handled better though.

I'm surprised that they wouldn't let you re-pick a pearl. It looks like you were already talking to a manager, but maybe you should write in a complaint as well. Sorry.

I would write guest relations to express your dissatisfaction with the outcome.

Keep in mind that much of the retail & dining in World Showcase (and DTD for that matter) is NOT owned by TWDCo but by outside vendors (which is the case with Japan).

Even though they are not owned by TWDCo. there should be some level of expectation that they will live up to a certain guest service standard.

A few years ago I did the Pick a Pearl in Japan and had the pearl made into a ring. About 6 months later the pearl broke off with the stub from the ring still inside the pearl. The next time we were in Disney (a few months later) I brought it back and they said there was nothing they could do as the little stub was still inside the pearl and they could not get it out. I ended up buying one of the Cinderella cages and put the pearl in there and wear it around my neck.

The last time we were in Disney (last May) I did the Pick a Pearl again and got two pearls in one. I did a ring again (I guess I should have known better) - in a setting with two pearls on the ring. Around Christmas the ring broke in half on the back shank. We are going down in a few weeks and I am planning on bringing the ring back - hopefully something can be done.

I love the Pick a Pearl but I have not had the best luck with them.

Linda
