Am I the only one who didn't know BLT dues were due Oct.15th?

During my last call to DVC I asked when were my dues due & I was told Jan.

I just checked my mail & there's an Annual Dues Payment Reminder.
I'm thinking it's like our local property tax notice they send them out in Oct, but they're due in Dec. Then I see the late fee!

I never received a notice or email, how was I supposed to know this?

We got our 2009 BLT Dues statement in the mail in early September, also with a 10/15 due date. We are setup for monthly direct debit and the first payment was taken on 10/15.

The 2010 dues will be due January 15, 2010 and will be late after February 15. The dues you are talking about now are your 2009 dues for your BLT purchase.

I'd call Member Accounting and plead ignorance to see if they will reverse the late fee - after paying the dues in full.

Good luck! :)

I'll try tomorrow if we still have power here.
They were closed by the time I checked the mail.

I think it's a problem with my mail carrier.
Twice I've found mail hanging out of the slot on our locking box & twice I've found mail on the ground near our box.
I also didn't get my power bill last month.

I was going to pay w/reward points from my visa, but if I wanted to do auto pay to prevent this from occurring again could I charge it to my card or is it only from checking account?

You can make the payment over the phone using a credit card (or rewards). If you want to use auto-debit it will need to be set up thru a bank account. You can pay the prorated 2009 dues with a card and still set up to pay the 2010 dues by auto-debit from a bank account.

Good luck! :)

Yikes! That's not good. Definitely contact your postmaster once power, etc, is back. I'm sure they want to know that the carrier isn't doing things correctly!

FWIW, I remember when the dues statements started getting to people...there were plenty of people who weren't getting them at the same time as others, it didn't seem to be very well done, either on the part of their own mailroom or post ofices across the country. And also, some of us could see the dues info on the DVC website, and others couldn't. It all hit accounts at different times. It was kinda weird, but at the time I didn't know if it was normal or not, because we're new to DVC.

You can pay your dues online with a credit card. I pay ours with our Disney Rewards Visa. I added 50 points on at BLT early October... My rep. told me what the annual Maint. fees were, but didn't say we would have any in 2009. Our UY is December... I noticed the Annual Dues due on the member site when I was checking to make sure the points were showing up. It was showing MF of $15.(and change) due which I paid. I assume it was for the one month in 2009. I would not have known if I didn't look on the site.

This caught my eye as I did not think we were late yet.
We are BLT owners as well, Oct UY, so I logged into the DVC members site and under the annual dues it says...

"Annual Dues are due on November 1, 2009. Late fees and interest will be assessed after November 15, 2009."

So according to the website, you (and we) are not late yet.
Call MS tomorrow and get it cleared up.

The dues due date for the pro-rated year is based upon your UY. In January they will be due for 2010.

Your may have been due by Nov 15th because of your Oct UY. The OP didn't say what her UY was. I added on at BLT with a June UY and my dues for 2009 were prorated as well but they were due by Oct 15th.

Thanks, I got it straightened out.

I was surprised though to learn that she could not tell me what I will owe come Jan. 15th. Which will be due by Feb 15th.

For once I'm glad we have so little points. I would hate to have such short notice if our dues were in the thousands

BTW our UY is Apr.

The dues rates for 2010 haven't been set yet. That information should become available fairly soon though. I think we usually get preliminary budget numbers in late November.

Don't they set the dues rate during the association meeting?

:) Bill

That is my understanding as well which is why I expect we will be getting the budget statements in the mail very soon now. If I remember correctly, we usually get that data a week or two (or three?) before the association meeting.

The propsed dues have always been sent to the members during November along with details of the Annual Meetings - where the proposals will be voted on by the board for each resort. There has never been any variation from the proposal and I wouldn't expect any this year, but we have not yet received the proposed dues for 2010 and still don't know the location or time for the Annual Meeting.

The "vote" is scripted with no opportunity for comment or questions from DVC members. The Annual Meeting is entirely conducted by the board which is elected by DVC to represent the members for each resort. Originally, there was a meeting for each resort, but that was changed to one meeting for all resorts a couple of years ago.

Stay Tuned! :)
