Just found this CBR review on tripadvisor!

At first we loved the room at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. Seemed clean enough, fairly spacious and had a mini fridge which came in handy. BUT, after a couple of days I was covered in itchy bedbug bites! I briefly searched the bed and did not see any visible bugs, but there is no doubt that the bites I received (over 80!) are from bedbugs. Every morning I woke up with more. We told the hotel and also followed up with a phone call once we were back home, and were told they would put it on record; no refund or any type of compensation for this horrible experience. After looking at other reviews on TripAdvisor I see that several others have had problems with bedbugs at this same hotel in the past several months. I will steer clear of this hotel in the future. It may be a problem in just a few rooms, but you would hate to be one of the unlucky few...

Me too! If this is true, I'm sure it can happen at any hotel. Many people on this board have stayed there recently and I haven't seen other complaints about it.

I am sure if someone from the DIS had bed bugs at any Disney resort they would have reported it here.

I always find it a little strange if you are having issues at a hotel that you wait until you get home to address them.

I agree with Safety Mom. We have been going to Disney for years, we are also DVC members, which shows how often we go. We have never and I am hoping ever have seen or heard of bed bugs until recently at disney. I quite frankly are really tired of hearing of these little creatures. We are leaving for disney in 2 weeks, I am a clean/neat freak and it is putting a little damper on my trip. I am never nervous about going, due to reading all this nonsence has put a little concern in my mind. I had my DH call the POP where we are staying in 2 weeks to ask about bed bugs, their response was not to their knowledge, and by law they need to disclose it. I really feel that all of this talk is coming from guests who rarely stay at disney, their trip was not what they wanted it to be, so are coming up with whatever they can to prove a point.

I completely agree! Why wait until you are home? Just go to the front desk, show them the bites and tell them that you want some sort of compensation. Either this person never stays in hotels, or simply doesn't know how to handle problems effectively!

I wonder if they checked the mattress for signs of bedbugs? I always check any hotel bed first thing when I check in, as the brownish stains are very noticeable and I would want to get my luggage out as quickly as possible if there were any bedbugs around.

Another thing that could have happened was flea bites. I've had problems with flea bites at hotels when someone has had an animal in the room (service dogs can have fleas too). But there's no stains on the mattress if it's a flea issue.

The review does say they told the hotel about it while they were there AND after they got home. Maybe the hotel didn't find any evidence of bedbugs when they checked the room and that's why no further compensation occurred? We know there's been a thread recently about a family that was compensated for a bedbug complaint, so I'm sure Disney knows what to look for and how to get rid of them.

There are so many other bugs that could be the cause of the bites, including mosquitos, noseeums, etc. I agree with Safetymom. There isn't much info in that trip report.

I've stayed at 3 different resorts over 4 different visits in the last 18 months.

Each time I check for bedbugs.. and so far - nothing.

That's not to say that someone can't experience them -- but you can be darned sure if I did, I wouldn't be waiting til I got home to complain about it!

Bedbugs have been an issue for years now. I try to remember to check the beds no matter where I stay.

The stains are most noticeable near mattress seams and around the headboard. What you're looking for are stains that are kind of rusty looking. I usually pull the bottom sheets away from both corners at the head of the bed and give it a good look. Every Disney mattress I've looked at has been perfectly clean (well, actually, I've never come across the stains in any other hotel yet either, thank goodness!).

I stayed in a very nice hotel once though that allowed pets (I'll never do that again by choice) and was eaten up by fleas, along with the rest of the family. Unfortunately, it was Easter week and the place was fully booked, so we couldn't move, and there weren't any other places with vacancies to move to either. That was a rough trip. Even though they came in to treat the room, those bites itched the whole trip.

I'd keep it in perspective. Anonymous person posts on a public board about XYZ experience. Trip Advisor is only somewhat useful. There are well meaning, honest folks who try to post accurate information. There are also plenty of pot stirrers there who just like to see what kind of trouble they can skillfully encourage.

Personally, I've read enough at Trip Advisor to feel I have a good sense of how valuable the information is there. I would certainly not let a place like Trip Advisor "worry" me, or affect my plans to have a wonderful vacation.

We were just at CBR in October and WL in December and never came across any bedbugs. We've stayed at many different hotels last year on and off property and never had a problem. The first thing we do when we go in the room is check and so far (knock on wood) nothing. We're staying at another off-site hotel in March since we're going to the convention center so hopefully our record of no bedbugs will stand.

That's exactly what I was thinking. This used to happen to me as well. I though at first it was from being in the sun all day (which certainly didn't help) but that didn't make sense as I'm in the sun alot at home and don't have break outs. I am allergic to certain detergents, so I tried not sleeping on top of the covers using my blanket from home and in 2 days time the problem was solved...have not had any issues with it since.

No hotel is immune from bedbugs. Disney has 24,000 or so rooms. It has nothing to do with uncleanliness, but I would be VERY surprised if Disney didn't have some cases. The best thing to do would be to just check the mattresses and headboard (and to not put luggage on the bed).
