What are the best watering holes in City Walk where you can just pop in for a drink without having to eat?
Bearing in mind that we will have two young kids in tow!

All but 2 locations at CityWalk offer food options. You can pop in for a drink at any of the places and not HAVE to eat if you dont want to. Margaritaville would be a good choice since they have the outdoor area as well and the kids could be comfortable in that setting. I'm not sure about Pat Obriens as far as the kids go.

Dont rule out the park either, they have locations that offer what you describe. Like The Enchanted Oak Tavern at IOA and The Backwater Bar. At Universal Cafe LaBamba and Finnegans come to mind.

I have no idea if bringing the kids into a bar atmosphere is allowed or maybe frowned upon? We never did this...anyone know?

I think of all listed Margaritaville would be best and best for the kids too.

Thanks JessicaR. We've done most of the bars in IOA/Universal at one time or another but as the kids are a bit older now they will be staying out later and going around citywalk with us (we're staying at the RPH).
Most nights we will be eating so that will not be a problem but occasionally we will just fancy a beer (and non-alcholic cocktail for the kids). Margaritaville sounds like the best bet - we have sat outside there in the past with the kids.
Thanks again!

Nascar has good beer specials that run all the time. You can pop in to the bar on the lower floor, and order a round of drinks to go. They'll pour into plastic cups and you can walk thru City Walk with them. The kids can look at the cars, or play a video game inside while you order.
At Margaritaville, they'll play in the sand and look at the huge air plane, which is also a bar you can order from.
Then as you walk into IOA, head to the right and there is the backwater bar. Suess Landing and the play ground are across from the bar, so the kids can get in line for the rides while you order.

Yes, but can kids get into Pat Obriens, IMGONNABE40? I thought that was more a place for us "Growed ups"!

Is there anywhere in Citywalk with entertainment for the kids? (Aged 9 and 11) Either music or dancing or game machines....anything to allow us to have a quiet beer!

Pat's allows kids into the back courtyard during dinner hours but all underaged guests must depart by 9 or 10pm.

I don't know if you can have a quiet beer in the parks. There is always noise no matter where you are. You may want to wait until you get back to your room, and then have one by the pool.
Nascar Cafe has game machines on the lower level around the bar. The kids can play the games while you drink one looking up at the car overhead.
Margaritaville would be outside with people walking by.
The backwater bar just to the right as you enter IOA would be your best choice. The kids and wife would go across to the play ground and into Suess landing while you sit at the bar and relax.
Another good spot would be the Jurassic Park section. You can buy a drink at the watering hole while the kids are in the playground.

Wait a minute Robvia...why would the WIFE go with the kids? Don't ya think she might want a beer break too?
tsk tsk :badpc:

In the Decades Cafe (formerly Motown Cafe), there is a game room. There are also game areas in NBA City and NASCAR Cafe.

Kids get bored easily. The idea is that the wife takes the kids to a playground while you order a couple beers and bring them out in plastic cups. The thing is, both people must be present at the bar. I'd say the best place where you'll enjoy a quiet beer is pool side.

Hi Xavier looks like we might be out there at the same time as you we will be staying a couple of nights out of our holiday at the rpr .Have you thought about jumping on the water taxies and going over to the other hotels for a drink?
We are going to try this this year, I totally understand where you are coming from, we have 2 dd's 8 & 9 and sometimes you just want to have a quite drink and know that your kids are happy and in a place that welcomes them with open arms, Anyway best of luck and have fun
