I just participated in my first 5k after getting through the couch to 5k program. It was really fun and I can't wait to do another.

I would really like to get faster but how do I do that? Should I just keep doing my normal 3miles and try to increase my pace or try to increase my distance so that I am doing longer runs once a week?

I am wanting to increase my times as well, and I believe the answer is to increase your mileage on runs in order to build endurance. I'd be interested in reading replies from the more-seasoned runners. My 5k times from this past summer were consistently around 36. I would love to shave a minute off each mile.

ChimneysweepGeorge has the answer for your question on page 4 of the following thread and lots of other great advice....

Congratulations! You did it!

I think that working on adding mileage will allow you to increase your strength and endurance distance. Just continue adding slowly to that using a program that will fit your time and ability. Most programs will incorporate strength training, and different speed work drills into the mix. Don't forget it is important to also properly stretch the muscles after you have completed your workout.

Key will be staying injury free by paying attention to how you feel. You don't want to cause injury doing too much too fast.

Find the fun! Come over to the Events side of WISH and join in some of the discussions there.
