So, for those thinking they are safe flying in within 24 hours of their cruise, please think twice. We had a 2 hour nonstop flight yesterday afternoon into LGA, but due to storms out east, all airlines we could have rebooked with had cancelled their flights into LGA, JFK, EWR, and ISP. Next available flight would have been 10:45 tonight or 7:40 tomorrow morning. We were fortunate that we spoke with a very helpful Hilton employee who moved our non modifiable reservation by two days and now we will just come home two days later.
So, if people think that these things only happen for snow and hurricanes, I unfortunately know otherwise.

Yea, there were bad storms here and there was even a tornado watch for NYC. I'm sorry you got caught up in the middle of it but glad you were able to find a workable solution.

I used to fly a lot for work. I had more delays for summer thunderstorms than I did for winter weather.

We were on a flight out of MCO a few summers ago and were delayed by a thunderstorm. I thought the airline was being overly cautious until we finally got clearance for takeoff and as we rose through the clouds we could see lightning all around us. At that point I wouldn't have minded if the airline had delayed the flight a bit longer.

There can be equipment issues too, especially if there are limited flights out of your location.

I saw that!

Used to it here in Oklahoma, but pretty rare for NYC.

Glad you found a suitable alternative stout. Always best to arrive for a cruise a day ahead of time, just too many variables that could ruin the whole trip.

We had our last flight from NYC cancelled due to high wind. We were on a 10:15 AM flight Sunday morning but everything was cancelled. Our flight was moved to Monday afternoon. Given we both worked Monday morning, we rented a car and booked it back to KY. It was a long day but sometimes you do what you have to do. Given this recent experience, I would also recommend building a day into the flight schedule, unless you have a backup plan that involves driving.

I have a flight in early August from DC and connecting in Atlanta. There are a lot of flights between DC and Atlanta (pretty much hourly at the time I'm going), but only one flight per day for my next flight. The travel agent (at work) gave me almost a three hour connection (and there are two other DC-ATL flights after my flight that, in theory, get there in time for the connection). I questioned it (I had planned on taking the flight giving me two hours) and she stated that, due to the risk of delays due to thunderstorms, she would highly recommend the three hours. Since getting there a day late would be problematic (though not deadly), I'm doing the three hour connection.
