Just Engaged!!

Hi everyone!!! My name is Katie and I have been a long time lurker on the Disney Wedding boards.

Our story:
My now DF took me to Charleston, SC this weekend for my birthday. It was an amazing trip and our first night (Sunday nigh)t he took me to see the sunset. We have been dating for almost 6yrs and have never watched a sunset, so I was very excited. He took me to the edge of a beach on Sullivan's island and it was beautiful. There were only two other people there (I would find out later, that they were there to take our pictures). We sat and talked, took lots of pictures, and watched dolphins swimming no more than 10 feet away from us! DF decided to go ask the other couple if they could take our picture and I was so embarrassed. I kept apologizing for interupting them and they said as they wanted pictures of themselves too. While taking our pictures, DF turned and told them to keep taking pictures. I was confused and turned around to see what he meant and he was down on one knee!! Along with having pictures, the couple even recorded it for us! It was a wonderful night and the start of our new adventure.

That night DF brought up the fact that he would love for us to get married at DIsney!!. So we are now starting to plan our Disney Wedding.

So my first question for everyone is about engagement party.

DF feels bad that our family couldn't be there when he proposed, so he wanted to have a party so that they could celebrate with us.

I have looked everywhere and they all say different things. Some say that you can host your own party, where as others say that someone else must throw you an engagement party.

We are not planning the party for gifts, but just to celebrate with our family and friends. Would that be ok? Or should we just try and plan a dinner with both our parents?

Any help or suggestions would be great.

There is nothing wrong with you having your own engagement party. This is your event in life and you should be able to do as you see fit especially celebrating one of the happiest times of your lives.

First, Congrats! My fiance and I have been together a little over 7 years and he just proposed also. My opinion on the engagement party is that you guys should just do it. No one has to throw it for you. I know that personally I have been waiting for all of this wedding planning for a long time so an engagment party was a definite. Again, Congrats!!!

Congratulations!! Sounds like a wonderful moment!!

As for the engagement party, I think you should just throw it yourselves! That way you can control when and who and all that...just a celebration with those you love! I think that sounds lovely!
