Just emailed MS suggesting a "perk"

If you buy DDP for Monday it is valid until Midnight on Tuesday

Thanks for the very useful information, which I was not aware of. So if we had the dining plan for, say, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and Monday's is valid until Midnight on Tuesday, at what time does Wednesday's kick in? Presumably Wednesday's would be valid until Midnight on Thursday. I hope I am explaining my question correctly.

IF you segmented the reservations that way, yes you could have it on alternating days and essentially have single credits good 2 days at the time. The problem is in the segmenting and in hoping it goes OK when you check in. Plus you'd have to get new cards each new segment.

There are many ways Disney could do this, they chose to make it LOS which is c/w their history of similar plans. Already, the current plan is more flexible than most over the years for DVC members. It's simply not worth it to make it as complicated as it would for your situation. Personally I'd either arrange 2-3 segments and get the DDP for one segment, or look at other methods for savings such as TIW, restaraunts.com, entertainment book discounts, etc.

I don't see Disney allowing the credits to be spread out over the entire time but it would be their decision. I do know of some timeshares, mostly in MX, that have meal plans that do function this way.

Since you are not doing annual passes, TIW is not an option for you. I agree with other PP, segmenting is an option, but it may be better to do it in 2-3 day segments, rather than every other day.

If you think you will return to Disney within 12 months of your arrival day, you could probably exchange your 7 day MYW tickets for an annual pass, since those MYW tickets have not been used yet. Then you could get TIW and use it for this trip and the one within the next year. You would not be able to get credit for the 2 remaining days from the previously used tickets, but you could save them for another time, since they don't expire.

BTW, you only save a great deal of $$ with DDP if you order the most expensive things on the menu. Plus, you are forced to get those little carrot cakes or chocolate cakes for most of the QS meals (the chocolate cake is yummy if you let it sit in the sun for about 15 minutes - warm chocolate cake - Mmm!). If you want an alcoholic beverage with you meal, you still end up ordering a NA-bevvy, since it comes with the plan. I think you may order fewer items overall, eat what you want, and spend less $$ in the end by paying cash or using TIW.

Since you are not doing annual passes, TIW is not an option for you.
It might very well be worth getting at least one AP for the intent of getting TIW for a 2 week trip. Of course there are other benefits to a pass as well. DVC members also get quite a few discounts at restaurants.

I have just come off the telephone to MS. I was told that if I were to order the DDP for one day it would be available for breakfast that day and would expire at midnight on that day. So there is no option to spread it over 2 days. I have looked at menus and prices and have decided that we would actually spend more money on the DDP than we would without it. So, I have come to the conclusion rather sadly the it is not for us.

That's not correct. The dining plan is good until midnight of your check-out day. For example, if you check-in on Monday and check-out Tuesday and get the dining plan, it would be good from the moment you check-in on Monday until midnight of your check-out day (Tuesday). If what they said was true, you would not be able to use the dining plan on your check-out day, which you can.

This is not ture. Dining plan credits are good from check in day through midnight on check out day.

So, if you buy the dining plan for Monday night, you will have the credits for that day and for Tuesday.

We are doing this in the summer, getting the DxDDP for one night so we can use the credits over two days.

Jan

It's definitely good until midnight of the following day. I'm sure you'll get that confirmed if you call MS back.

All the best

I'd settle for DVC members being able to purchase TiW without the annual pass or FL residency for $75. That can pay for itself on a 10 day trip.
