How many of you come back from Disney sick? Went at Christmas, came home sick....Went again in March during spring break (mistake), came back sick....

Is this common or did I have really bad luck?

I've had it happen more than once. I blame the plane ride home and just being flat out exhausted. At least it's on the way home and not while at Disney-I've had that too and it's way, way worse.

Went to WDW for a week in December and then the beach for a few days came back sick with pneumonia for two weeks... not Disney's fault, just Florida lol

Yes, we all caught something in the last 3 days we were there... it didn't make us terribly ill until the plane ride home, so THAT was fun... :(

We've come home sick a few times. Probably just all the germ exposure plus the long hours and exhaustion.

But always worth it! ;)

Pretty much every other trip someone in the group ends up coming down with a stomach virus at some point during the trip. But with a big family, it happens in general a few times a year even when we stay home - it just feels much more inconvenient when it happens at WDW ;)

It's not uncommon. You're in crowds where people may be sick, coughing and sneezing on you; touching things that sick people have touched, then you touch your face, your eyes, your mouth, your food; you're probably running yourself close to ragged without recovering enough before doing the same thing again the next day. No one is to blame for it.

We've been lucky in all of our trips! No sickness. In December my oldest ended up with an ear infection, but he was apparently harboring that on the way down, poor guy. Luckily we had a great experience with the urgent care nearby.

In our family we call our Thanksgiving 09 trip "The Swine Flu Vacation." We all came down with it while we were there. DW and I were the last to succumb Friday evening, the day after Thanksgiving. Very unpleasant 16 hour (what's usually 13 hour) drive home the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

A few times, yes. Caught some type of stomach bug once, and then a really bad cold another time.

DH used to get a cold/sinus infection during or after every trip for years but after he had a sinus cyst removed he did better. Other than the incident mentioned below I have not (knock on wood) ever been sick at Disney or come home sick.

Only one trip ever (2014) truly just about did us in. First me, then DH but not DS got a terrible, clean your system out virus. It hit me on Day 6 of the trip so it was definitely Disney caused. Hit DH on Day 8 and I now think it was the Norwalk virus (now called Norovirus) because our symptoms matched it totally. For the first time in 14 trips I actually missed a park day and also the MVMCP.

Think about the sheer numbers of people we come into contact with while there. All those people dragging hands on the hundreds of rails, buttons, counters and seats not to mention the sneezing, coughing everywhere is breeding ground central.

And somewhere else on the DIS is a lengthy thread about the pros and cons for using anti-bacterial hand stuff. That awful 2014 trip was the only one I ever tried to faithfully use my anti-bacterial lotions so who knows?

Back when DH and I were still in the classroom it was a commonly thought that teachers held out and didn't give in to being sick UNTIL a vacation came along. DH certainly did that many times.

Another possiblity is that we stress ourselves quite a bit getting ready to go on vacation. We work extra hours getting ahead at our jobs and we stay up late packing and then get up early to stand in crowded airport lines etc. By the time we actually walk into a park some of us already have the deck stacked against us. Just add germy conditions and our bodies react.

Every. Single. Time.

I come home and have a cold within 24 hours of the return of every WDW trip (or ANY time I fly).

DD, DH, and I went to WDW for DD's 21st birthday. We visited all the parks but our last day at WDW was dedicated to doing Food & Wine at EPCOT, specifically to celebrate DD's birthday. I started vomiting about 1am; there was NO WAY I was getting out of bed for anything but a bathroom trip, so I missed the highlight of our vacation, the whole reason FOR this trip: Doing F&W with DD and DH. They had a wonderful time without me, and I'm glad, but I'll always be sad that I missed this. I was fine to fly the next morning, and we had no problem on our MCO-BWI flight. As we boarded the flight from BWI-PWM, DD mentioned that she didn't feel great. Okkkkk... we landed in Portland and with panic in her eyes, she said, "I have to get off this plane." We sent her ahead while we gathered carryons and waited in line to deplane. Checked the 1st bathroom we came to and there was DD, woofing up her toenails- she was SO sick! I hopped online and made an airport hotel reservation, took DD over and tucked her into bed, then ran DH to the bus station as he had to get home so he could teach the next morning. There is no way DD would have made the 2+ hour drive home to Orono- she was even sicker than I'd been the day before! DH never got sick... lucky him!

I usually get the sniffles from the A/C in the rooms at night...my family is insane and sleeps in a freezer and I unfortunately suffer the consequences. But nothing the humid air doesn't fix while I'm out and about throughout the day. Upon returning home though I am usually stuck with a sore throat from the 18-20hr drive for a day or 2 after... just being wiped out kinda shhhtuff.
