Just curious - are there really any children posting here?

It seems to be that it is all adults. Alot of "adult" topics coming up: infertility, infidelity, health issues, politics, etc.

Are you saying that the kids don't have those problems? :rotfl:

I don't see a lot of kids/teens here. Sometimes, but not a lot.

Personally, I'm more afraid of what they see on the sites that are for the teens than here on the DIS, even when we get a little out of hand.

Yikes, I need to go turn the radio off--my 12yo son left it on and I don't like the rap crap that on!!! I don't understand half of it and don't like half of what I do understand. Worse than anything I've ever read on the DIS...

I have seen a few recently, including one pre-teen who was a little rude to other posters. But generally, no, don't see many. We're a bunch of old fuddy-duddies. :lmao:

Any parent that parks their kid in front of the computer and says, "Oh here, hang on this site, it's perfectly safe", is irresponsible in my opinion. They will wander inevitably and come across way worse than anything found around here. Kids are exposed to so much through music and the media. I really don't know why some seem to get so uptight when there is a little adult humor, but that's just my opinion and I am a goofball. :teeth:

Those are all issues that I'm fine with my teens reading and caring about, however, they don't post in this forum

I assure you I am not a 13 year old claymate :rotfl: Although I have been told to grow up on occasion :confused3

That's what I thought. I can't understand why some people get upset when we kid around on here.

Did you ever hear some of the innuendo in the Disney movies? It goes right over the kids heads anyway.

I think some of the hateful things I have read on the "permissable" debate threads is way more harmful than a few jokes about melons, etc.

Guess I have just signed my own walking papers. It was nice knowing all of you!

I just turned 18, but I think I was around 15 when I started posting on the DIS. :teeth:

I've never seen anything here that I hadn't heard somewhere before.

If that's all it takes, then I'll be lacing up my own walking shoes... And with my DH's job situation putting me into a lousy mood and my PMS, I figure I might be telling you all adios in a day or two, anyway. ;)

My DS posts on the VMK board. I don't know that he's ever been here, it would be too boring.

Mal, I hope he wasn't the rude pre-teener you're talking about. Was it on this board or VMK?

My baby brother is 13 and posts on the Virtual Magic Kingdom Board often. He could care less about the community board, or adult topics like health issues or politics.

I have seen a couple teens, maybe pre-teens around. But I can guarantee you that kids these ages already have seen, heard and said worse than the fun things we do on these boards. I agree that some of the hateful things said on debate-type threads is way worse than a joke about some fruit or vegetables.

OMG Miss J!!! Not the vegetables!! You know they corrupt worse than fruit!
Why did you drag them into it? :faint:

Is the OP asking physically or mentally?

Now that you mention it, I wunder that myself?

My DD 15 reads and posts occassionally. But she usually goes to the teen forum if she's on the DIS.

My 14 year old dd posts here all the time (Sparx). I do keep an eye out for her. She is willing, ready and able to debate on just about all subjects, lol. She has always been that way. Most people are shocked to find out that she is only 14. Certain subjects, like infertility, hold no interest to her, however she does sympathize with those suffering with it. I really can't think of any particular subject that I would consider off limits to her. When she sees a subject on here that she doesn't get or understand, she just comes and asks me about it. It gives us a great springboard for conversations.

I have long admired your daughters maturity, intellect and compassion. I think Sparx is the perfect example here.
I also love that you are both able to communicate the way you do! You two must have a wonderfull relationship!
The OP poses the question as to how young is too young for this board, in my opinion. Have you all seen the my spaces out there :confused3
Much worse then melon talk, political debates as well as to what the op mentioned. I think some of us are too sensitive and it is too bad that these people would rather turn their noses and what some of us post, or worse yet, try to make examples of the ones he/she considers offenders rather then using that brilliant feature of ignore.

Sparx is a great kid (teen) and it's easy to forget that she's not an adult. I've never seen her act in in an inappropriate manner--you've done a good job, mom! :teeth:
