Just curious about upgrades.

Has anyone been upgraded upon check-in? For example, used points for a one bedroom and was given a two bedroom instead? I didn't know how strict they were with point use. Also, is check in always so late? We had our first stay at SSR this weekend and our room was not ready at 4. We were told they had until 5pm to have our room. Not a huge issue, just a surprise it was so late.

Upgrades for DCV members at DVC resorts is pretty unheard of unless something out of the ordinary happens such as having to remove a room unexpectedly from inventory for emergency maintenence. I remember reading something about a water leak at SSR once where I think they had to move people around, but it really doesn't happen very much.

DVC also recently revised it's check-in policy to AFTER 4:00. Any rooms that open up before 4:00 is pretty much on a first come first served basis.

It rarely happens and usually there is a reason. They don't do it just because you ask and given the nature of the DVC program, I don't think asking is at all reasonable. If you ask and they give it to you, they usually take the extra points from your account.

This past August 7 we were upgraded from a studio to a one bedroom. We checked in after midnight and I think we got that room because there was no studio available. The following morning we were switching rooms anyway to a one bedroom. I only wish they would have let us stay in that room it would have saved mousekeeping cleaning on that day.

The closest I came to an upgrade was over a year ago when I was staying in a studio at BWV. I know it wasn't just my check in time since I was there at about 9 am (early flight). I was upgraded from a standard view to a preferred view at no extra charge of points to me. The lady was new checking in and whomever changed my reservation put it in my DH's name (he's listed first on the contract). Unfortunately it was a solo trip, so I was getting worried since she wasn't going to let me in my room since it wasn't my name I had my confirmation in my hand to show her and another CM came up and pointed out to her what happened. That CM said to me "Happy Birthday, we hope you enjoy your upgraded view!"

Not sure if it was a little Disney magic or if they were just overbooked on standards, but that's the best I've gotten. I wouldn't ever ask for more w/o being charged more points.

We were upgraded in July at SSR from a studio to a 1BR d/t a mold/leak in the shower. It was hard on us b/c it was 10pm and I had to pack and move the kids. We were thrilled though when we woke up in our King size bed!!
We did get our room at 2pm that stay.

We stayed at HH last Sept and were upgraded from studio to 2bd for no additional pts. Stayed at SSR during June 07. Water leak in studio and placed in 2 bd for no additional pts.

We were upgraded in December from a 2BR standard view at BWV to a preferred view. It was a nice surprise. i am assuming there was a problem with the room we were supposed to have so they moved us. I don't think it will happen again.

when we checked into BCV this August 29th at 8am we were told where our room would be but that it wasn't ready yet....we were called at 12 and room was ready.
