Just Curious about AKL upgrade

What do you think gives you the best opportunity for getting an upgrade from Standard view to Savannah view at AKL? A couple of years ago we went and wanted adjoining rooms and got an upgrade to Savannah view. I was wondering if anyone else had some theories on when they do the upgrades.

No theories????? What about past experiences, what were the circumstances around your upgrade?

:Pinkbounc Last year we booked a savannah view for the 1st night and then for the next 7 nights (on a package) we were booked standard. However, when we thought we were to move they allowed us to stay in the savannah view room during our entire stay. We didn't asked it was just some major pixie dust. However, this was Sept 2004 between hurricanes...so that might be the reason. We would have been just as happy in standard view because AKL is so beautiful with so many things to see. Good Luck :teeth:

We were upgraded from standard to savannah in December 2004 and we had little hope that it would happen before we arrived ... our plane didn't arrive until 11 pm and we didn't check in until 1 am. I had our late arrival noted on our ressie. The upgrade was pre-assigned. We had tried to book a savannah room all along but there were none left with the general code. I am sure we didn't have the "best" savannah view but it was still magical to us. That was the very first night of our family trip and my animal-obsessed 4-year-old was ecstatic.

I bring my extra cute, well spoken 3 year old with me to the check in desk and let her work her majik.

In november, she came up and said "daddy, can we see the animals from our room"

I had to reply with "I dont think so honey, I am not sure daddy knew to request that"

BAM......1 savanha room view comming up, for the price of a parking lot view.

I wasn't going to mention it because I don't think he was the reason (as I mentioned the room was obviously pre-assigned) but I did bring my cute, even while sleepy, 4-year-old as my "extra insurance" :flower:

What were you aiming for at the YC? Waterview, view of the Boardwalk or SAB? We're staying there in May, that is why I ask.

Our upgrades have been totally random, never received one on the HM nor in 2002 but got a major one from Standard to Courtyard at WL in NOvember 2004.

I am in trouble then, my kids are too old to be cute. As a matter of fact if I bring my kids to the from desk I may be sleeping in the parking lot rather than overlooking it. :)

We've always been upgraded from Standard to Savannah! ::MickeyMo Don't know why or how, it just happens every time we go. Last month, we had a Pool View room and were upgraded to Deluxe Pool View. I've learned not to ask why, I just sit back, thank the CM profusely, and enjoy the view!

I wish I knew - that way I could book standard view :rotfl2:

Actually the two times I have stayed at AKL, I've booked a savannah view room and been upgraded to a deluxe view room when I checked in. I didn't ask for the upgrades, but was grateful to have gotten them. I am going to WDW in May for a quick visit with my DD2 and had originally booked CBR. Than DH suggested that I might want to think about AKL since at least there, if DD gets too tired and cranky for a meal I can get room service. So yesterday I booked a standard room. But today I got thinking that having a savannah view room with DD will probably make things even easier since she can go to the window and look for animals, so I changed my rezzie to savannah view. It will be interesting to see if I get upgraded to deluxe again. Actually I've never been able to figure out the difference in deluxe and regular savannah view - they both come with the animals. :earboy2:

Booked standard view over Halloween weekend this past weekend. Upgraded to savannah view upon check-in when CM discovered there were no "kings" available as we had requested. The resort appeared quite busy, so dh and I were very pleasantly surprised.

DH wants to know how much you charge to rent out the three year old??

Anyone ever try to get upgraded to the conceirge level? I booked a Savanah view but am tossing around upgrading.

We've always gotten exactly or less than we had planned on including a thoroughly horrible "savannah" view at AKL that we complained about and then were moved to a supposedly better view of hundreds of balconies!

We will never stay at the AKL again even if they paid us to!!!!!!!!

I'm in awe (and jealous) when I hear about these unrequested upgrades and wonder if our time will ever come!

Well, we're not traveling with any cute toddlers and we're not planning on getting upgraded at all. I doubt we will, since we arrive midday during a busy period. If we do, great, but if not, it won't make or break the trip for us. :flower:

I think something like 90% of the rooms have savanahh views of some sort so they probably overbook the standard rooms and put the overflow in the savanahh rooms.
