Just Close Hollywood Studios And Start Over

The Studios suffered from short-sighted planning from the get-go. The idea of a working studio/theme park was cool, and that's how it started. But as filming in central Florida started fizzling out, the park started adding more attractions that seemed to belong in MK instead. So then it wasn't really a studio, and didn't have enough rides to be a proper theme park. Now you've got.a weird mish-mash of stuff in a park that is still themed to Hollywood and movie-making but nothing really seems to fit.

Even the park layout seems like an afterthought.

I used to love Hollywood Studios but now find it mostly skippable.
This ..
I don't find it skippable .. but it definitely is no longer a "studio" theme park (no more than Universal Studios is a studio theme park anymore). Once Lights, Motors, Actions and Indiana Jones goes .. there will no longer be any "making of movies" attractions and my guess is that the name change will no longer have "Studios" in the title.

It's always been my least favorite of the 4 parks but still a must do on our trips - we go at least once over a week trip to hit a few rides.

It has been reduced to a 5-10:30 pm park on our next trip in August. That's it.

The layout of the park is an afterthought, it was put together slipshod by bolting together existing ride systems into a place with enough existing infrastructure to support a park. To my knowledge, it's the only Disney park ever built without full crowd flow planning in place.

I can't skip DHS, but I can complete it in one day and not miss anything. Currently, it's at the attraction level seen in the mid 1990's, before ToT, RnR and Fantasmic opened.

I plan on being in Hollywood Studios for parts of two days on my next trip. I love the place, love the rides, love the atmosphere. I wish there was more to do and really hope that what Pete said in the podcast about his thoughts on the plans is accurate. But still I could not imagine a visit to Walt Disney World without riding ToT, RnRC, TSMM and ST. There was lots of interesting shopping, loved the shows. Thought the Muppet show was great. I wish I had done the Animation stuff now, but oh well. These parks aren't museums and I cannot wait to see what they do. If they can match what they did in revitalizing DCA at DHS it would be awesome. Would love to see an attraction based on Up, the Incredibles and Inside Out.

I think it would be also kinda cool to make the park something like Disney California Adventure, but instead of a celebration of California (or in this case Florida) a celebration of the different areas and time periods of the USA. Have Pixar area be themed around the American Southwest with a Cars attraction and an Up attraction. Maybe do turn of the century Louisiana, just for laughs put a new version of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. There are just so many properties that Disney could put into this park to make it truly special, memorable and a little more boy focused to combat the overly girl focused princesses of MK. The Emperor's New Groove, Treasure Planet, Hercules, Tarzan. So much.

Also since this is wishful thinking kinda deal. Universal has the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Disney could have Camp Half-Blood. Weird rights since Disney owns the publishing through Hyperion and Fox owns the film, but that would be a land worth visiting.

I would 've have thought with the new movies coming , STAR WARS land would be the priority, it would be neat if they were able to use STAR TOURS as the main entry point for the land and have the ride exit into a fully themed alien world so that it actually felt like you had travelled somewhere, somewhat like the Hogwarts Express at Universal

All the things they have closed or are closing are things we have done once. Didn't want to do them twice. Love the rest of HS. Star Tours I could ride over and over. Same with Toy Story Mania. ToT, Rockin Roller Coaster, Great Movie Ride, Beauty/Beast show, Fantasmic. All are great and worth the ticket. Wouldn't bother me if they did away with that stunt car thingy, pure torture to stay thru the whole thing.
