Just Close Hollywood Studios And Start Over

Now that the Animation building is closing it's time to just shut down the Studios and re-open when the (alleged) Star Wars and/or (also alleged) Cars Land expansion is done. This place is a sad shell of what it used to be and only has a couple of things worth doing at this point (Toy Story Mania, RNRC, and TOT). I know it's a time of transition, but to keep this place open and running while still calling it a "Disney" park is ridiculous.

We enjoy many other things. While it certainly is not what it once was, there is plenty to do that make it not worthy if closure.

We could fill a day with what is left. Not that a would choose this.

There is still lots to do, just not as much as some other places. Frankly I'm glad so much is closed. It's acknowledgement of the need to update and it means they are coming.

I would be more concerned if they were still running a bunch of terrible attractions. I'm looking forward to the day that they finally scrap the Indiana jones show and the car show.

For the once a year we head down there, we still love Hollywood Studios. Love walking down Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard and seeing all the neon. The theming at the Tower of Terror is superb and takes us away to 30s and 40s Hollywood, which is why we love that park, it truly takes us away to that time and place like nowhere else can besides the real thing. Sure the park isn't for everyone during all these closings, but many still do enjoy what is open there.

While I still enjoy DHS, I kind of agree with this. It is obvious the park is in for a massive overhaul. Keeping it open while they build/change means that the construction is likely going to be frustrating for those trying to enjoy the park and also means that the construction will probably move a lot more slowly because they will be having to work around guests. I would be fine with them just shutting the thing down for a year or two to really focus on construction and have it finished out sometime before 2050 (which is my estimated completion date for when the construction will actually finish).

I had this thought cross my mind as well but doubt they would ever do it, its still bringing in revenue. There is also the fact that they couldn't relocate ALL the Cast Member's working there. A few attractions close, that's fine they can move them around but not the whole park. And I would like to say that Disney wouldn't do that to all its HS CM's, despite it being a business, but there is all that upsetting news about Disney IT lately.

Plus DFi and I love TOT and would be sad if we couldn't ride it on our next trip.

I see the point that there is still stuff to do, but I do think the work will drag out longer if it stays open while they are doing it. Which is probably the point anyway since they don't seem to do any construction at anything other than a snail's pace.

I'm not expecting this new DHS (or whatever they end up calling it) until 2025 at the earliest.

I think they could close a large chunk of the park to allow for uninterrupted reconstruction. Just keep open Hollywood and sunset Blvds., Great Movie Ride, TOT, RRC, Toy Story, and Fantasmic, and anything else in that half of the park.

These areas aren't likely to be part of the construction. Unfortunately it would mean forgoing Star Tours for a time though.

The ticket would be cheaper for those wanting to buy a day ticket. And, maybe they could figure out a way to allow park hopping for multi-day ticket holders that go to DHS for only part of a day.

I'd much rather they close off a whole section if it means they get the new stuff up and running significantly quicker.

They are closing the drawing class??! Ugh, when is this happening? I'm gonna head over there over the weekend, probably Sunday...

I've been saying this for a while. Rip the Band-Aid off cleanly. Close the park and get to work. For those who say that there is still lots to do, well, I could debate that, but it misses the point. It is far easier to do repairs and renovations when the park is closed than when there are people getting in your way. If they close the park and work 24/7, they can have a great park up and running by 2018. At the rate they are going, you are looking at 2025. No one is saying that there is nothing worthwhile there. But a new, better, finished park would be easier and faster to achieve if they close the park. The groundbreaking for AK was in August, 1995 and it opened in April of 1998...less than three years. Anybody think that a fully renovated DHS will be done in February, 2018? Not with people milling about. Just like doing a complete renovation of a house. It is better to do that when you aren't living in it.

Don't close it, improve it. I love star tours, the great movie ride, Tower of terror and Aerosmith roller coaster

The best way to improve it would be to close it until everything is done. Although this would crowd the other parks....

It would be so much faster to do a temporary closure and just get to it rather than dragging construction out forever. They really should have done that at AK as well. It was in such a sorry shape the last time we visited in December. On the bright side...I got to feel like a real animal while there--a hamster in a maze!

Did they close the MK when they changed fantasyland? Nope. Was it done overnight? Nope. Why close a whole park when sections can be closed off and changed? I remember when mgm just opened and not everything worked. Same with universal. Did they close down? They worked through it and they will work through these changes too.
It might not be what you want but maybe it is perfect for someone else. I say keep it open, I'll do and see what I want and then if I have more time I'll go to another park or maybe I'll just go back to the resort.

How many attractions were still running in the MK when New Fantasyland was being built? How many are now left at DHS?

You can't compare hs to MK when it comes to rides. There never were many rides at hs in my opinion. More shows, really. And there are still people lining up for those shows and for the rides that are still running. Imagine telling people they can't ride/play TSM, ToT or RnR on their vacation they have been saving and planning a long time for.

Im sad that I'm missing poc in mk this trip but I'll find something else to ride.

Not even close to a fair comparison. To build New Fantasyland, they had to move Dumbo and close Snow White. Whereas DHS has huge and varied buildings out of commission. Backlot Tour. AFI Museum. Narnia/Jack Sparrow, Walt 's Dream (soon), Animation Academy (soon), American Idol, Sounds Dangerous, Hunchback Theater. These are vast areas spread all over the park. New Fantasyland was an expansion whereas the Star Wars overlay will be a transformation. Remember when Tomorrowland was transformed? Guess what? They closed it!

They could keep DHS open with the very few things they've got going on, but shuttering all of Future World and doing a massive overhaul wouldn't be such a bad idea...

I've grown tired of the higher cost/lesser experience Disney's got going on lately.
