Hi guys, I was just checking the weather channel to see how warm it was going to be today and they stated that they are predicting hurricane season to be much the same as last year :sad2: . She said hurricane season was Aug-Oct for Florida, I was just wondering how far into October does this apply. We are going from Oct 14-23......Call me a worry wart. Friends of ours went last year at this time and didn't have any trouble. Just wondering if any of you DISers had a website on weather/rainfall for this time. :sunny: THanks Kat

Last year October was fine for Central Florida. We went on the cruise Sept 30th and weather was great! However, the port had just reopened. It was closed due to Hurricane Francis damage.

Thanks I need to just relax!!!

I don't mean to stress you out, but hurricane season starts in June, and lasts through November. Last year, as everyone knows, we got hit hard in August and September.

Chances are, you won't encounter a hurricane, but there are no guarantees.

Hurricanes are a guessing game for weather men/women. They don't even know where they will hit when they have them on radar they are so unpredictable. I tend to feel that the later in the season it is the more likely they are to go up the coast. No promise but I wouldn't worry. :sunny: for your trip!

I wouldn't worry too much - we were at WDW last year between hurricanes Ivan and Francis. We left the day Francis was due to come in (not because of her, it was our day to leave anyway!). I was very impressed with the preparations the hotel (Pop Century) was making, and all of the Cast Members we spoke to seemed ready to deal with whatever was coming. If you have to be caught in a hurricane, there's no place better than Disney!

Wait until you get closer to your vacation, and make appropriate plans (i.e., bring rain gear, a flashlight, some extra snacks in case you have to stay in your room awhile), but otherwise, don't worry - have a great time. It is a wonderful time to be in the parks (temps are nice and crowds are low)!

October is a relatively safe time, hurricane-wise. August and September are the months to be "on notice".

Thanks for all the wonderful advice and reassurance. I'm not gonna sweat the small stuff and just look forward to planning my trip. We got a sweet deal 9nights All star movies with 10day MYW plus passes (non expirary) for less than $3000 canadian. I can't wait!!! :cool1:

I agree. Also, late in the season the storms are weaker because of the colder water and usually die out before they make landfall. And every year they say/predict the same thing. Sometimes they're right.
BTW, I'm not a climatologist, but I did sleep at...

We were at WDW last summer during Hurricane Charley, and although it was a little scary, all of the cast members did a very nice job keeping everyone safe and informed. They closed the parks one day at noon, and the resorts were packed, but there were still things to do. I just looked at it as another way to remember this wonderful trip! It was my first hurricane, and I survived!

Plus, I'm a sixth grade Science teacher, so I got to tell my students first-hand what it is like to be in a hurricane!

One thing I feel it is very important to mention is that hurricanes lose strength as they travel inland. WDW is situated in the middle of the state and is really somewhat protected from the most forceful and damaging winds and rain.
