I am soo upset. I just had to cancel a reservation for August. I called disney and aaa for a package and the price was thru the roof. I put a hold on these packages and then did the math.
WOW- I was being charged almost $170 per night for a moderate hotel. Last year I paid half of that. I called back today to cancel and see if an error was made and was told that the pricing was correct.
I was quoted $2400 for 7nights, 1day park tickets and the meal plan for 2 kids and 2 adults. I already have my tickets. After that I would have to get air. Doesn't this seem high for the room and meal plan???
All the commercials and ads are saying how inexpensive it is this year. IGUess not! I am so upset, I guess we'll have to wait until next year!!

That stinks! :sad2:

The $1500 deal is only for the Value resorts, which stinks, but what can you do!?

Hop you can find a way to plan another trip soon!

The moderates are $166 (with tax) per night with no discount. It sound like you have a package booked (my understanding is that to get the dining portion, you have to be booking a packege) which includes tickets, dining and room.

The ads are for value season at the value resorts without the meal plan for 6 nights

It doesn't sound like you were getting the AAA discount applied correctly and were being charged full price for the room. A standard view moderate costs $149/night during regular season, plus 11.5% tax. Many people have reported AAA TAs having problems getting the discount applied properly to their reservation.

Two things you might want to consider: (1) Booking the room and paying for dining separately. You could probably eat for less than the dining plan is charging you. (2) Put off your trip until early Oct. and you're in Value season and rack rate for the room is $134/night. AAA discount during Value season is 20% instead of 15% during Regular season, so you'd pay $835/7 nights for the room with tax.

THe package did not include tickets. It only include a 1day ticket per person, so I was able to add the meal plan on.
I was planning on a code to come out but no luck. I may try to get a aaa discount for room only. I believe the moderates were $130 and value $84. Has anyone stayed at the pop century?
Maybe we should go that route.
I guess we won't be seeing any codes for August.
Thanks

If I remember correctly, the cost for a one-day ticket is ridiculous - something like 60 or 70 dollars. That probably added to the cost increase from last year. There is definitely a premium to pay for buying less thansay 5 days worth of tickets.

If your kids are under ten, you are paying $630 for the dining plan alone, plus the cost of the 1 day ticket, another $220. I would go room only and pay for your dining separate. If one of you has an AP, you could likely get a room discount plus buy the DDE card for $50 to get 20% food discounts.

I would definately work it out separately also. the room with aaa discount, budget your food, and you can try this main site www.wdwinfo.com or mary's mousesaver's www.mousesavers.com for discount tickets? I find I always do better ala carte than with there packages. I did 2 trips this year so the ap discount really is nice, and we also got the disney discount dining card too. Also keep in mind that although august might still be regular season for value & moderate, if your planning moderate you might check the price at akl or wl cause they are considered deluxe and are in the value season. meaning = cheaper price, & bigger discount %. So they could be very close to the moderate price range, (std room) worth looking into.

Good luck, keep looking :wizard: ::MickeyMo :wizard:

It does appear that you were not given the AAA discount off the room portion of the package. I had the same problem. You can ask your AAA agent to verify the discount has been applied, of course, there is the possibility that the AAA rates are sold out as they are limited - but you should be told that or ask them for a different moderate if one's available with the AAA rates. If the AAA agent you're using doesn't get it figured out, call another agency. I ended up using a southern California one after getting frustrated with my local agency. But it saved us $356. :wizard:

From my calculations, you should be getting a quote around $2,222 for 2 adults, 2 children (I'm guessing 10+), with 1 day passes (no hopper), with standard room for 7 nights at POR and dining plan. You should be able to get something close to that if the discount's available.

Have you looked to see if any DVC members might be needing to sell their annual points? This might be an option as there are times when you can get some reasonable deals from them. :earsboy:

that guys. I am definitely going to price this out myself and hopefully come up with something better. I know that this is the wrong board but I have been looking around at mousesavers and might check out the hotels in downtown disney. I like the area, since we will not get a car. We can walk to downtown disney and across to the crossings. I see that some hotels are even available thu priceline, risky thought. Has anyone had any success or secrets with priceline? It's just another option for us.
Thanks again

from what i understand, you cannot get the AAA discount on the room portion of a package unless you are booking through a AAA Travel agent. If you made the ressies through Disney CRO, you didn't get the discount, their system can't do that, only AAA Travel can.
:goodvibes cheers

Not true, I have never used my AAA agent to book my trips, but have always gotten the AAA discount on my rooms. Any travel agent and even you can get the discount when it is available. :earsboy:

I booked an AAA moderate room for July and the cost is about 123.00. I did not do a package because I really felt we could eat for less than the meal plan. (my family doesn't do that many table service meals and we would feel obligated to eat it all ;) )

If you already have your tickets, adding 1 ticket per person seems to be a hefty unnecessary item.

If this is still too expensive maybe consider a value or like you said check into downtown.

Hope it works out for you. :flower:

I was just on the Disney site and clicked on the $1500 dollar special- the next page it takes you to has Moderate for $1800 and Deluxe for $2500(?). Have you checked this out? Hope this works for you. :hourglass Only 16 days to go! Have a Disney Day. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

if that price is correct and it is too much for you..why dont you go with a value resort??? i mean how much time do you really spend in your room?? have you checked to see if you have any discounts attached to your name??? i am sure you can get the price down...good luck..

But with the new MYW packages, it seems that the AAA rate is only available through a AAA travel agent. If you want to book room only, you can get AAA rate through CRO.

I just checked Expedia for you. Didn't know your exact dates or ages of your kids but put in for 8/8-8/15 and you could get a value for $99/night or a mod for $149/night. If you already have tickets, I'd skip the dinning and pay for my own meals. If you do mostly counter service and if you do some sharing of meals and bring or buy breakfast items for your room, I think you can do this on a nice budget.
Good Luck!

I never book packages because I find too when you sit down and do the math that your really not getting that great of a deal. When I book on my own and with different discounts that are out there I find booking things separately is cheaper.
