Has anyone been able to change to a lower resort or drop a day or two with the BRP? I am trying to save money on the resort now because money isn't that great right now. I don't mind a $50 penalty just wondering if it is ok to do since my trip is under 60 days.

Thanks,

Kimmy

Well I decided to make the call. Now I feel upset. I tried to either drop a day from my reservation or change resorts to a lower resort. I was on there for 15 minutes and then she put me on hold. She was very nice but came back to say if I make any changes then they will take my $177 deposit altogether as a penalty and I will lose it. I feel so stressed over this. I was never one to complain about the BRP before but now I am complaining. I don't think it's right that I can't modify my reservation at all. I thought it might be a $50 penalty but now to tell me that because my trip is under the 60 days, that my penalty will be $177 is just not right. This will be my final annual pass and maybe my final Disney resort vacation. Something just isn't right here. Ok, thanks for listening and now I can go stress on how we are going to pay for this vacation.

Thanks,
kimmy

I would call and speak to someone else. CRO seems to give out many answers to the same question. Give it another try.

It sounds like after 60 days, any change in the resort will be considered a cancellation and rebooking.

If you call again, post the next story you get.

Or, if anyone has managed to change a BRP resort reservation within 60 days (even if you just dropped a day), please post about it.

I guess I just don't see how you can blame Disney for this.

By booking under this special plan, you agreed to whatever terms Disney set forth which included a penalty.

Its just like booking a hotel room using special 'internet only' rates. You get a great deal, with the trade-off being you pay up front with no refund. You can't go back, if your plans change, and plead that you should get your money back.

I actually made the reservation knowing that if I couldn't afford the $177 a night months later then I would be able to change resorts with a $50 penalty. It was never said that if I wanted to change to a different resort, it would cost me $177. I believe Disney is making up rules as they go along and I do blame Disney.

Are they letting you book another resort with a BRP discount?

I was trying to book All Star Movies instead of the AKL that I already had. I assumed it would have been rack rate which was fine with me but we never got that far because she said it would cost me $177. She said no matter what I did it was like I was cancelling my reservation and therefore I had to pay a penalty of $177 which was my deposit. She checked with someone before she told me that because she wanted to be sure that she was correct. It didn't seem like she had ever done it before.

Okay, if you are going to switch resorts within the 60 day period that would definitely be a cancellation and a rebooking, since you cannot book another resort through BRP within 60 days. It's my understanding that if you switch to another resort, you have to make another booking.

Can you knock your AKL reservation down to 1 night, pay the $50 change fee and then make a second reservation through CRO for Allstars at rack rate? Or are they telling you you can't even do this? Or if you were trying to drop a day from the existing AKL reservation, I don't see why they wouldn't allow that with the fee.

Ok, I just called back. I think it's good news. I dropped 2 nights off so I am checking in 2 days later than before. It saves us $354 which makes me happy now and we will just book at a value at rack rate. I didn't mention switching resorts this time because it definitely sounds like it is considered a cancellation. The woman I spoke to definitely seemed like she knew what she was doing and was very nice. She didn't mention a $50 fee so I don't think I was charged it. Doesn't matter either way. Should I be able to look at my new reservation online now? It scares me because it is still showing my old reservation and pricing. Oh well, I will deal with that later.

Thanks everyone,
Kim

I was more than 60 days out when I realized I had booked for the wrong night. They let me change dates, no problem, no fees (except that a standard room wan't available for the night I wanted, but we ended up with a better view room, so I'm not complaining.) The first time we called the woman was pretty clueless, she couldn't even tell us what rate they were going to charge, just that it would be the 'same rate type.' The second CM was much better.

As far as I know, you can make a change to a BRP res anytime as long as the dates you are changing to are still 60 days or more from the date you booked the reservation. As far as changing resorts, it's based on availability and maybe they didn't have Movies at a BRP price when you called for the dates you wanted. If you were to change that to rack rate, it is considered a cancellation/rebook since rack rate is not BRP and that is why they said they would keep the 177.00 deposit. At least that's what it sounds like to me, either way I'm glad you were able to get the changes accomplished. Have fun!

I'm sorry but I have to chime in here.

You were given bad information.

You can make changes at any time (even to downgrade to a value resort, and even if you are less than 60 days away) with only a change penalty assessed. It is NOT a cancellation and is not subject to forfeiture of the deposit.

Changes are subject to a $50 change fee (if you are downgrading--they generally do not charge it if the cost of the reservation increases.) You do not have to cancel and rebook.

I'm sorry you ended up dropping 2 nights and having to rebook at rack rates. The CM should not have given you that bad information (but it happens often.) If you ever are faced with this situation again, call back and ask for guest services.

I have made tons of changes for clients booked on the best rate plan and never had a problem with any of them.

Sue Ellen is right! I know someone who booked with BRP when it was still 120 days. They had to call and change there reservation from a deluxe to a moderate, same dates, under 120 days. They made the change no problem and charged her the $50 change fee.

I think you should definately speak to a manager at CRO about this. Better yet, call the passholder people and tell them what happened. You should not have had to lose your deposit. If there were no values available, they should have just told you that and let you make the decision of whether to drop days or switch and pay rack.

I thought they did away with the $50 change fee?? :confused3 There is nothing about it in the terms and conditions on the BRP website.

Hi. It's me the OP again!! Well I had sent an email to WDW explaining the situation after I had made my original first phone call. I had mentioned that I wanted to switch to a value resort and I was told that I couldn't. I just received a nice email back this morning saying that we had been switched to the resort that I wanted!!! They will credit my card for the remaining deposit since it is now a smaller deposit. So, it all worked out fine. I am happy that I sent the email because I was definitely afraid to call back and get someone else who was unfamiliar with the program. Thanks, for everyone's input and help,

Kim

Great news! Good for Disney for making it right. It's sad that we need to jump through hoops but at least most of the time they make it right.
