We had a bat in our house last night. The cats had it cornered in the bathroom and I heard it screeching and thumping around. I felt bad for the little fella until it flew under the blankets at the bottom of DD4's bed. DH held the blankets down with a broom while I scooped up both kids and put them in my bed, with a towel stuffed under the crack in the door.

DH and his dad ended up sucking the little guy up with the vacuum cleaner .

We have had many bats in our lifetime. We have had three or four in our own house before and FIL has had two or three in his. We have tried everything to get rid of them, catching them in a net, leaving the door open, but they usually just keep flying around erratically, scaring me to death.

Never been so frightened in my life as when one was flying above our heads, tapping its wings against the slant over our bed. I freaked out when we turned the lights on to investigate.

We were destined to have bats in our life. There was one in the church when DH showed up for our wedding. Luckily he and his groomsmen were able to trap it under a collection basket. They slid a hymnal under it and released it outside.

Sounds like you have the bat removal thing down. How do you think they get into your house? We had one in our bedroom last summer. We opened the window, left the room, and he eventually flew out, although DH wouldn't sleep in the bedroom the rest of the night. We think ours squeezed through the openings in the chimney cap then knocked out some mortar in the bricks in the fireplace.

Turn off the BAT SIGNAL

Problem solved :p

monkeyboy LOL! I wish I could remember where that darn switch is.

Ella - I think they shimmy in under the flashing by the chimney and get into the attic. If there is any small opening, they can fit into it. At my house, our attic door had a crack at the top. At FIL's house, the pull down attic stairs had a small crack at the opening.

I LOVE bats. How come this sort of thing never happens to me.

Seriously though, I don't know if I'd want one flying around my house. We have some in our eaves but they never come out. The good news is , they eat lots of bugs.

I'm glad no one got hurt. I'm picturing the bat flying around your church for your wedding! That must have been a sight!

Ewww....I'd be traumatized:earseek:

I feel the same way about bats that I do about mice....IIICCCCKKKK!!

I know, I know that bats are good. They just creep me out!
