My son and I are disney nuts" and just bought after our last visit 2 weeks ago. We bought at SSR which is beautiful but am concerned about the large size of the resort since we will not have a car so I am wondering how is the interresort transportation/ or if you are assigned a villa in the furtherest area how is the walk to the main building/food court/ main pool etc...... Also how is the transportation to the parks. We usually stay at POFQ and busses to parks were alo smooth and easy so hope same at SSR. Also, how is availabity at 11 moth mark for SSR if book for May and Thanksgiving 2009

Thanks for any advice!

It hasn't happened, and may not, but members have been asking for guaranteed section booking at SSR, and that will help owners as they book 11months out to get the section that they want.

There won't be any problem if you book 11 months out! For May, you can even wait a few months before booking, for Thanksgiving, well, if you want a Grand Villa, I would book right at the 11 months mark.

Best wishes...welcome home!

Some people report "bus issues" and others say the transportation was great, so it depends.

Transportation reports have been mixed, sometimes an hour wait. SSR doesn't have a internal separate bus, you use the park buses to get around inside SSR. Booking at 11 months for SSR should not be a problem.

Welcome Home to the SSR family, mimmiepmp!

Prior to DVC, we've stayed at POFQ and had a great time with their busses. Now that we've finally had a chance to stay at our home resorts (OKW & SSR), I can say that the busses were just as good if not better.

We stayed for no less than a week on each occasion and each bus wait was on average 10 minutes. There were 2 times we waited for half an hour or more, but those moments were during off-peak travel times.

I am pretty fond of the busses and would never rent a car while on WDW property again like we did in 2003. Driving home from the parks tired at 1AM is a nightmare! Let them do the driving.

We also walked between the various portions of SSR and found that the "spoke-like" walking paths kept most distances pretty reasonable for walking (easier than OKW, for example). We stayed in Grandstand, the newest and furthest part, and had NO problem with the walks - and it also has the 1st bus drop-off/pick-up stop. It was maybe a 5-minute walk at a leisurely pace to the main building. Grandstand also has the biggest quiet pool, next to a unique childrens' water play area (a bit more relaxed than the main pool area). I would definitely recommend Grandstand for your 1st booking. Many people like Congress Park because it has the walk to DTD and is maybe a bit closer to the main building, but it also has one of the last bus drop-off/pick-up stops, which means you might face "standing room only" at times.

I definetely agree with Disney Villian. We stayed in the Grandstand in December and we absolutely loved it. We are going back in December and requested the Grandstand again. My kids loved the pool there more than the main pool. There is a quick path to the boat launch for DTD and when we walked to DTD, it was maybe a 15 minute walk. We never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus (although I hear there is some bussing issues right now). You will love it!!:cloud9:

That's a pretty good description. The good thing about SSR's design is that the Carriage House / restaurants / main pool are all centrally located. You don't have to cross from one side of the resort to the other to reach such amenities--they are all located roughly in the middle.

SSR is serviced by Disney buses (which are funded by owner dues), so the wait times should be about the same as any other resort. Sure you will read trip reports from people who claim to have experienced excessive waits. But the same is true of any Disney resort.

has one advantage that I haven't seen mentioned yet in this thread: you can easily & quickly walk (or boat) to DTD and get busses to other resorts from there. When we stayed in the Congress Park area, we walked to DTD quite a lot, and used that has our hub to get to our dinner ADRs at other resorts. It worked out quite nicely!

As far as busses to the parks go, I think all the resorts have issues from time to time, depending upon the season, time of day, or whatever else. That's why we like the resorts that have more than one option for transportation.
