My guide called me tonight as she got the go ahead to release Aulani information and to sell before the July 1-7 event.

Details:
- 600 Founding Members will get name on a tile on-site and one sent to them at home
- final point chart is the same as the one released on disboards last week
- opening date for first phase 8/29/2011
- reservations start 9/29/2010
- $114 per point, less $12 discount for 250 point founding member purchase = $102 per point (didn't ask about discounts at other point levels)
- additional incentive will be applied if attend the July 1-7 "resort" event (didn't say what it would be, but I will net less than $102!)
- Dues $4.31 per point
- Offering a fixed week option for 10% increase in price (this is new to DVC - I passed on this)
- 706 rooms are available. of these 246 are 1 bedrooms

I bought 250 points to get a 1 bedroom poolside view for 10 nights every other summer. :beach::woohoo:

I find this the most interesting point. A fixed week option, meaning like other timeshares where you lock into a certain week every year? Certainly different than the usual DVC practice.

HMMMM interesting.. I see they are dabbling more and more into regular timeshare territory.

yes, just like other timeshares where you get a certain week every year. I was surprised by that.

I'm actually very concerned about this. This is potentially a huge hidden change. If enough members purchase this option, other resort owners may never have the chance to book peak weeks like Christmas, etc. I'm interested to hear others thoughts...

good point. I wonder if they have a limit on this option for that very reason?

Hello, and Congratulations -

Did your guide mention that this early option was available only to D23 people or any other special group of members? I have a message into my guide, but he appears to have been out today.

Thank you!

Seems very strange. goes very much against the main value of DVC IMO, having flexibility on booking dates.
Also Surprised that the initial price is not higher than BLT or VGC.

I would expect this to sell out quickly, with very strong demand coming from Japan.

First week of May...Golden week will probably be impossible to get if you can buy a fixed week. It's like a much bigger version of spring break....

I can see the fixed weeks being more attractive to those in Japan etc..... again i'm not going to jump in this time like i did with GCV those who waited made out like bandits verses though of us "founding members" i dont even know where to look for my name as a "founding" member...:confused3

No, she did not mention a select group. I am not a member of D23. She said that the Anaheim sales staff just finished an internal meeting (this was early evening pacific time) and were given the OK to release details and make sales. I talked to her a few times over the past few weeks to try to find out information and to make sure she knew to call me as soon as she got details. I think I was high on her list of calls as a "definately will buy". She also had a hunch that I'd want to be a founding member.

Well if my guide does not get back to me on Tuesday I might want to call your guide! I have been after my guide since the project was announced to let me know as soon as sales commenced. I am about as sure a buyer as anyone out there. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Congrats on the purchase!!!! :thumbsup2
Hawaii certainly is a beautiful place to stay.

Thanks for the info! We're signed up for the Fri night event...2 days later we're off to honolulu for a quick trip ... I have a feeling we've already made up our minds! :rotfl:

If I had any thoughts of buying the selling of fixed weeks would put an end to it since weeks 51 and 52 will be the ones americans buy up making the chances of getting a few days over Christmas very problematice

Congratulations on your new home!!

By the way: I think Hawaii's Transient Accommodations Tax at Aulani will be about $0.1993 per point if the MFs are $4.31/point. The formula is one-half of the daily maintenance fee ($4.31/2 = $2.155) times 9.25%. The TAT is scheduled to revert to 7.25% in 2015, but Aulani's MF should be higher than $4.31 by that time.

Congratulations on your new DVC home! As a founding member of BLT I know how exciting it is to buy a new resort as soon as it goes on sale. That is a great price too. I'll be in Kauai next week and may have to fly over to Oahu to check out the construction and the area.

Congratulations!

I am a little concerned about the fixed week option. How will they adjust for supply and demand on the points? If someone has a fixed week will they be allowed to use the points for that week at the other DVCs?

Guess we will just have to wait and see. Do not plan on buying there but was hoping for something at the 7 month window at some point in time.

Same here. I really hate the idea of a fixed week option. I would not buy at a resort where my flexible points weren't worth as much based on someone else having first chance at time I may want based on them paying 10% more. Easter and Christmas will be hard enough to get at 7 months and will be close to impossible if there are fixed weeks involved, IMHO.

I bet this is another of those changes that DVC says the members have been asking for. :rotfl::rotfl:
