Just bought Aulani!!

Aloha SoCalDCLfan and congratulations on your purchase. If we still lived in Colorado I'm pretty sure Aulani would be on our wish list for points. But living another 1,000 miles further east, I'm not so sure.

Although my DH read to me the OP's initial post shortly after it was started, I'm still in shock about the fixed week addition. Do you think that if there is a point reallocation, the fixed week people are set? Or will they have to pay for more points? Also if they decide to trade out their week and stay at another DVC resort on points will they have to pay a fee? And then how many weeks of the year will be fixed weeks. I'm pretty sure that another poster was correct that Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's weeks will end up being fixed weeks.

Lastly I was dumbfounded by there only being 250 1BRs. Do you think that means there are some dedicated studios? The original announcement that DVCNews reported was:
481 Disney Vacation Club two-bedroom equivalent timeshare villas.
Somehow I thought that a lot more than half of those 2BRs would be lockoffs.

Funny every dribble of information seems to bring more questions. I'll be glad when we get all of the facts.

Congratulations on your purchase...I am so excited for you...I guess a purchase means that this thing is really going to happen...

I'm sure that's by design. Feedback to the dribble helps Disney understand what aspects will be worrisome to current members one step at a time... and helps them specifically tweak their program and sales pitch to the general public to account for those concerns. For instance, as folks voiced concern about purchasing so far from home and then possibly missing out on the only few weeks they could travel each year, the fixed week option appeared.

I would love the option of a fixed week, and I'm sure it would be our anniversary week. It's not in a high demand season, but is a time when we frequently travel. Unfortunately, the uncertainty of travel costs to Hawaii prevents us from taking the plunge as owners. We were tempted by the possibility of being founders, but now that Disney bumped the minimum up to 250, that's no longer attractive to us.

EDIT: Just found out that I misunderstood OP... 250 is not a minimum to be a founding member. That point requirement is still 160.

If I had any thoughts of buying the selling of fixed weeks would put an end to it since weeks 51 and 52 will be the ones americans buy up making the chances of getting a few days over Christmas very problematice

Exactly. I sure don't like the fixed week option at all! I do agree though that it probably has something to do with the Asian market in Hawaii. We find the Asians are usually there in January through April, just like when we Minnesotans like to go!;)

I totally agree. However, logic would indicate that the 'highly traveled weeks' such as Christmas would not be allowed to be purchased OR DVC doesn't figure enough folks will want to pay the additional 10% to 'buy out' those high travel dates. And a 250 point minimum (if that's true) is too rich for my blood, especially living in Indiana. Plane fare alone would be a killer!! I'll just keep my 'home' at SSR and hope that maybe one day I can make a trip to HI on my DVC points...:cloud9:

I'm not sure that this is the case. The 250 point level gave us the $12 discount. The guide did not mention an entry point level for founding member status probably since we'd met it. a previous thread mentioned 160. I'd check into this further

Congrats! I'm looking forward to attending the event on Saturday. I may buy points there, too!

Congrats on the Hawaii purchase!!

Like many others, I'm very concerned about the fixed week option.
I can't think of a single thing Jim Lewis has done right.

If that was the case, then logically Disney wouldn't allow the Japanese to buy a week during Golden Week, the most travelled holiday week for them. But it sounds like in order to sell Aulani Disney has definitely opened the possibility of having popular weeks as fixed vacation weeks. Whether all of the rooms at Aulani would be fixed for specific weeks has not been released. It's possible that a specific number of rooms will be fixed and the others for use with points.

Congratulations, indeed! I can certainly feel your excitement ... and imagine the trip planning ideas running through your minds like sugar plum dreams.

We are signed up for tomorrow night's D23 event at DLR ... and figured we'd be safe from actually facing a purchase decision. We've been tossing the "Should we buy Aulani?" question around pretty often this past week. Oh, hmm, ah, ... indecision!

Good on you for taking a bold step. May you have many happy summers on Oahu! :)

Well, for those buyers who want a fixed week at Aulani , then its the "right" option for them. Until we read Aulani's Declaration of Condominium, we won't know exactly how DVD will administer the fixed week portion of Aulani's membership base. As with many things, the devil is in the details. I could see the fixed week option being available for only certain weeks of the use year, or that the fixed week option will only absorb a portion of the points in a given use year. It will be interesting to watch this topic unfold.
