Hi all,

I just bought at BLT! I have what is probably a stupid question.
I want to plan a trip to London at some point. Is it really difficult to use your points at Hotels across the world (through RCI)?
I thought I read in a thread it is difficult, that someone had to trade out first?

There's no dumb questions (or at least yours is not one of them)

Yes, RCI is a company that manages exchanges among other member timeshares. DVC just re-joined RCI in 2009 so there is not much recent DVC-RCI experience here. in 2008 and earlier DVC belonged to the other main trade company, II (Interval Internaitional?)

For your London RCI booking, someone that owns in London must deposit their time into RCI to get a week at a location other than their London time. (They might want a week at BLT, but chances are, RCI will be managing a convoluted 3 or 4 or 5... way trade among multiple owners)
The trading process also takes into account how much in demand a certain week runs (A Colorado ski lodge week in August may be worthless in comparison to a January ski week..) WDW is not the highest demand timeshare in the world. Orlando area vacations are immensly popular, but there are a even more immense number of Orlando area timeshares

Despite what you are told by DVD, using your points for any stay outside of the DVC resorts at WDW or DL is not a good value.

You would be much better off renting your points out for that year to someone who can use them at Disney world/land and using that money to fund/part fund your trip.

RCI is a rip off. there is a 95 dollar booking fee for a start

Does DVC still have London in the Concierge Collection? Do we still have the concierge collection?

Concierge Collecgtion hotels costs more, but I think the availability is almost guaranteed.

Unfortunately, the selection on these hotels have decreased over the past few years.

I'd love to hear reviews of London hotels. You can also use DVC to tour London and Paris through the Adventures by Disney, but it is definitely $$$ (high # of points.)

I thought they were normal hotels, not "time-share" hotels?
So, from a financial standpoint, it wouldn't make sense to use them for that?

The world passport collection trades are timeshare trades, and the concierge collection trades are usually hotel trades. They both use points, but the concierge collection "hotels" generally cost a lot more points than doing a trade through RCI timeshares. Trades through RCI are easiest if you can be a bit flexible with when you go and where you want to stay. When you book a concierge collection hotel, you book it right away if it's available, just like you would with a travel agent, but you "pay" with points. DOes that explain it better?

From a financial standpoint.....no, not a great value with a trade into hotels. That being said, we NEVER would stay at Charleston Place Hotel (it is no longer part of the collection) at $500 a night. Giving up the points for our stay was WELL worth it to us to top off a GREAT vacation.

Depends on your point of view.....if we don't have to lay out the money for our stays, and we use points instead, it doesn't really matter TO US, that it's not a great value from a financial standpoint. We already paid for our DVC upfront when we bought 9 years ago, anything we use our points for that we don't have to pay $$$ for, is just fine by us, as long as it gets us where we are going!

Have you considered Disneyland Paris on points for your stay? Or does it have to be in London?? Just another choice...good luck, and WELCOME HOME!

Is it difficult? Well, it isn't quick - but it is a simple process. You put your request in up to 2 years in advance and then *wait* for an available exchange to trade with. Most non-DVC timeshare owners can only surrender their timeshares at the 12 month mark (and most trades go through at the 5 month mark).

We simply don't have patience for this system.
