Just booked the GETAWAY rate at DL for late June

The offer I got yesterday was better than this one...

I was quoted $1495 for 6 nights at DLH with no passes.

So...if I search the same dates now, same room, but with tickets then it comes up as $2400 at DLH...which is $900 more and....now I'm confused!!

LOL.

Alternately, I can keep my $961 (with taxes) Hojo kids suite rate and buy passes (about $700) and I'm still a lot cheaper than DLH.

So...still confused!

;)

Erin,
I think the 5 for 3 is a great deal if you stay for 5 nights. If you stay longer you dilute the discount. And if you stay shorter, you don't qualify. Our final room rate (all fees included) went from $382 to $229 per night at the DLH. That is a 40% off discount not including the savings on the park hoppers so it's a great deal for five nights. I think the room only deal was 30%.

I think you're right Veronica, it's because we need more than the 5 nights.

I stayed on hold for 28 minutes...then the girl came back to tell me that they couldn't find it in the system. They are going to call me back later.

My TA just sent me the info!!! She's checking to see if it is cheaper than the Getaway room only rate.

Great thread. I too found a better deal last Saturday than I had previously booked. I saved over $400 even after I upgraded to a theme park room at the GC for 3 nights in July.

Interesting though, the room upgrade is now over $200 more than when I re-booked on Saturday. It seems like the rates are constantly changing. I'm just glad I kept on checking!

I just booked 3 nights room only at the GC for July 2-5. The rate is exactly 40% off the rack rate. I first looked on line and it said Summer Getaway rate but then I called to book the room because I needed two and I wanted them to be connecting. We are very excited to be staying at the GC. I can't believe they are discounting like this over 4th of July weekend.

I just looked at the summer room offer for GCH and the standard room is $1040 MORE than a theme park room!! What's up with that? Are they planning on making the view really ugly lol? I don't get it. I already had 2 rooms booked with the seniors discount (30% off) because we're taking my parents, but for a $200 more per room, we could have theme park view rooms. Do you think it's worth it. Had I not had the seniors discount, I would be doing backflips for these rates.

Thanks so much for the heads up on the new discounts!!! I had a 3 night package booked at DLH, and I was able to call and get my rate switched over to the "summer package" which saved us $367!:yay: I was lucky enough to get 2 great CMs! I put my dates in online and saw the cheaper price. The CMs told me that the summer package deals started online today and they were supposed to have them in their computer for telephone reservations; however, there was a computer glitch and they didn't get access to them. Tech is trying to fix it and they should have access tomorrow morning. The first CM told me she was going to try to see if she could get some "Disney Magic" for me. She got me to the second CM who went out of her way and worked really hard to figure out a way to get me the discount without me having to call back tomorrow and risk that the rooms available for the package would already have been sold out online. She was fantastic!! They really made my day!!:)

FWIW it looks like I got about a 40% discount for the GCH for a three night stay. I am not getting a five for three deal. Just three nights and that is all.

I have some notes from a month ago where I priced a theme park view this summer for 3 nights and it came to $1680 plus the 15% tax. I got it for $1050 plus tax. That is a 37.5% discount. This is hotel only.

I am not sure what dates I priced before though and they charge differently between weekdays and weekends. I have 1 weekend night. So I'm not totally sure I'm comparing apples to apples. Nevertheless I know the price I got was way, way below what I was looking at last month.

Here are some more things I see online this morning:

o the online price I got for the 2 nights (July 29-31) when I booked two days ago is still available this morning. It is called Summer Room Offer now. The price without tax is $714. It is $564 for a standard room and $714 for theme park view so an extra $75 a night for park view.

o if I add one day to make it July 28-31 I still get no special offer at all and the price goes up to $1380 for a standard room. Do the math and adding the extra day for a standard room makes the cost go from $564 to $1380 which is an increase of $816 for the extra day.

o if I look at the theme park view for July 28-31 the price goes from $714 for two days to $1750 for three days. Over $1000 for that extra day.

o the concierge theme park view however costs $1563 for these same three days - less than the park view by almost $200. Go figure. :confused3

Bottom line is that with the current situation it pays to look at different combinations of days and upgrades as the prices have almost random fluctuations right now.

Nothing going on with the current pricing makes sense or is logital. I am beginning to think they are having a programming problem or they are trying to drive business in to certain areas of the Disney hotels, but, I will live with staying in the Villas.

Enjoy the Grand! We'll be there (DLR) during your dates as well, our 1st two nights (7/2 & 7/3) @ the DLH ~ I too can't believe the great rates for the holiday weekend ~ we'll be able to take advantage of the MM on both Sat. & Sun.! We're moving off site to someplace much less expensive for our last 2 nights. Cross your fingers with me that we'll have decent (low) crowds over that weekend ~ DD's B-day is the 3rd!

Just got off the phone with a CM and had my question answered. She thinks that the reason the standard rooms are so much more is that they are already sold out. I booked a 5 for 3 package which ended up $163 cheaper than if I had kept the seniors discount and bought tix separately.

Further, it is my understanding that hotel only reservations are easier to cancel or modify. The package reservations are more restrictive.
I talked to Disney again today about my res. Tried to add another day and the CM said her system said it was available but then it would not let her book it. :confused3

Anyways, I asked about cancellation and change fees. She said if you have a package and want to cancel more than 30 days in advance there is a $100 charge. If it is less than 30 days it is $200 to cancel. It also costs to change. $25 before 30 days and $50 after.

However...

If you have room only you can cancel or change for no charge up to 5 days in advance.

That is what I remember hearing a few years ago at WDW (same as DLR in this regard I understand) that room only reservations give you lots more flexibility.

Most of this is true, but I know firsthand there is no charge to change a packge 31+ days out. I just changed my package yesterday and no fee was assessed or even mentioned.

Also, before I made my initial reservation, I chatted with a castmember and he copied the policy into our chat window:
Ed: Days prior to arrival Change fee

Ed: •31+ ....................... No change fee

Ed: •30-0 ...................... $50

Ed: Days prior to arrival Cancel fee

Ed: •31+ ....................... $100

Our price was almost the same but we did not opt for the insurance.

When we reserved tonight she told me that there WAS a $50 charge to make changes.

Seems like different advice is being given?

All I know is that I booked a package on March 2 and changed it yesterday and I was not charged a fee nor was I told a fee was being waived. Plus, the initial CM I chatted with appeared to copy and paste a policy because it showed up all at once much faster than he was typing otherwise and it said there is a $50 fee within a 30 day window of your reservation and 31+ days out there is no change fee. So yes there is a $50 fee to make changes but not until 30 days out.

I FINALLY got through on the website and we got 4 nights at the grand (hotel only) for 1056 which is less than 4 nights at DLH!!! I think it was 1200 something. The same 4 nights was 800 something at PP but we have not stayed at the grand since 2002 and then only the one time so we were REALLY excited to see this deal! We had orig planned on just staying off prop or possibly even at PP but this is awesome.

We are REALLY excited. I didn't get my tickets together but DO plan on getting 2 of the 3 for 5 hoppers for my kids. Mom and I already have AP's. Man these are GREAT deals for summer!! Only wish the airfare had as good of a deal!!

So confused!! It is our first trip to DL in July and I had decided we would stay at the Candy Cane Inn for 4 nights-- total price $685. I was just looking on the DL website yesterday and saw the GCH standard room for the same dates for a total of $1269-- including resort fees. There is a difference of $584 which is a lot of $$ but then again this is probably my only trip to DL. I am so tempted-- I did book the room only while I think about it. I would pay the difference if I think we would spend some time at the hotel. We are arriving at DL on a Sunday evening after going to the SD Zoo. We plan on visiting the parks all day Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday-- we leave on Thursday night on the red eye at 10:30 pm. Will we have time to see and do everything in the parks in late July on these days and still have time to enjoy the pools etc..at the GCH? My kids are 12 and 15 and we usually go from opening to closing in WDW.
