I am a beginner camper and after reading around here for a little while yesterday I pulled the trigger. I booked my camp ground - asked for the 1500's. I will be adding a dining plan and tickets as the date gets closer (and hopefully a deal). The women on the phone was so helpful. She told me to ask for guest services when I go to add the dining and tickets and (double book) so I don't lose my original reservation. I'm so excited!!!

Thank you all for your posts!!

If you are a beginning "Camper" then i suggest you get a little practice close to home. First step could be in the "Back Yard" to see if you have/know everything to get you through. Then a short/small trip to a local campground to get the true feel of things.

I know you won't be disappointed with the fort. It has a lot to offer whether you are in a tent, pop-up, TT, 5th Wheel, or Class A. You should find lots to keep you occupied not to mention, I heard there is an "Amusement park" nearby too!:P

If you've been lurking long enough to be convinced the Fort is the best place to start your camping life, then you know we are a friendly group. Mostly we try to be helpful. Sometimes we try to be funny. But all of us have a love for the Fort.

I'll second Paul's comment about getting out someplace local to start enjoying (practicing) camping before your trip to the Fort. It will help you know what to expect and how to deal with the little things about camping that are different than staying at a hotel or resort.

It will also let you see how special the Fort is compared to "normal" camping.

If there are any other questions, ask away. You'll get plenty of answers. Some may even be correct. :yay:

  • Comfort station rock!!!
  • where else can you sleep with a mouse and love it?
  • There is no other place like it
  • Where else can you make smores with Chip and Dale?
  • How many campgrounds have ferry service to the Castle?
  • hands down, best decoration for Halloween and christmas

I'm going to be purchasing everything we need and doing some camping this summer/fall. Luckily I have a campsite about a mile from where we live. So - if anything is forgotten it will not be a major dilemma.
I love Disney - and am so glad I was able to make an affordable way to include my nephew. :)

That's the way to do it.

Thrift stores and garage sales are inexpensive ways to stock up on camping gear. At our house, when something gets worn, it goes into the camping box and a new replacement is bought for the house :)

If you can bring bicycles, it was one of the best places we ever biked at and they sure came in handy. There is a nice easy ride to Wilderness Lodge, where we had lunch. It was our first trip last month to FW and we just loved it! Will definitely be a yearly thing for us. Have fun!

Awesome! We stayed in 1500 in April and it was GREAT. I second the bicycles if your group has the capability to ride...we had SO much fun looping around on our bikes and riding down to the beach.

One purchase we've really enjoyed was our canopy. It's not strictly necessary, but when the Florida rain hits it's nice to have somewhere to sit that's not your tent. Ours was about $120 on Amazon for a 10 x 10 Coleman.

Hope you have fun planning!
