I am so excited about our upcoming cruise for our 10th anniversary. I just booked us in this stateroom on the November 16 sailing of the Wonder. I've read the pros and cons of a stateroom like this on Barb's site (thanks Barb) but I'd like to hear from others who have stayed in one of the secret porthole rooms. The member service person who booked the cruise for me tried to talk me out of taking this room and now that I have paid the $75 exchange fee (I booked on points) I would have to pay another $75 to change rooms.

Any feedback on the secret porthole staterooms would be appreciated. I figure if nothing else, I'll be on a Disney cruise with my sweetheart, how bad could the room be? Thanks in advance!

this is a great state room will not talk u out of it...........
good value have a great cruise

It was a great room - very convenient to the kids clubs, the shops just one flight down.

Would definately stay in that room again

Just curious as to why they tried to talk you out of it?
We has 5524 for our 1st cruise & it was a great value but wouldn't stay there again unless someone in our party had the adjoining room - 5520 doesn't have this problem so I would keep it!

You are all making me feel a lot better about booking this stateroom. Just to clarify, the MS person asked me if I had ever cruised before and I said no. He asked me how I knew about the "secret" porthole room and I told him it was recommended on a Disney internet site and he started to tell me that you cannot believe everything you read on the internet. I told him that I agreed with him but that this room came highly recommended from people who had actually stayed in this room before. He told me just because someone else likes this room that did not mean I would like it. He told me he was a former room assigner at the Yacht Club and he saw it happen all the time - someone liking a room location while the next guest hated it.

He told me that this room is so popular it probably wasn't available for my sailing and only after I insisted he check availability did he put me on hold and checked for me. It turns out it was available. But it wasn't until after I had given him my credit card number that he told me I could not change rooms without paying the $75 fee again.

I've looked at this stateroom on Barb's site and the view seems okay. I know its obstructed and I made sure my DH knows it as well and that he understands this stateroom is 20 points less than a cat. 9 would be and with that 20 points we can book a night in a one bedroom after the cruise so DH said go for it.

I was happy with my choice but being a cruise newbie, he made me doubt myself. Thanks for the reassurance that this is a good stateroom. If anyone else would like to comment, I'd appreciate hearing from you!

Hey, keep the room in good shape for us.... We have it booked for our cruise! The photos I've seen were enough to sell me.

Have a great anniversary cruise!

Sounds like he was talking out of both side of his mouth!
Strange that he would try to talk you out of it and then tell you how popular it is.
Having gotten too many emails to count from people who were told by DCL that there is no such thing as a secret porthole room and who wanted to confirm the SPRs existence, the internet is the source I WOULD believe. ;)

I HAD room 5520 booked for our Nov 30th cruise. Maybe someday. We booked ourselves into a verandah instead for our 1/2 point cruise Nov 8th, 2003.

I appreciate all the responses I've gotten. DH counts on me to know my "Disney stuff" and I know I can count on the cruise line board people to give me the real scoop on our upcoming cruise.

Barb - I showed DH the pics on your site of "our" stateroom and he seemed more than happy. In my opinion, you just can't beat a little daylight for the price of an inside cabin.

To be fair, I think the MS person I spoke to was a teeny bit upset that his 7-day cruise was cancelled and he had to sail on the 4-day earlier this month. He didn't seem to have too many nice things to say about a 4-day cruise but I think I can understand so I will just consider his less than enthusiastic demeanor a result of his disappointment. I know if I had a 7 day planned and could only take a 4 day, I might be disappointed too.

Anyway, thanks again guys. I'm so excited we're going on our first ever cruise. I'll do my best to keep the room ship shape for any future occupants! The only downside is breaking the news to our DS that he will NOT be going with us this time;) .
