I e been checking airfare for our return flight. It’s always been 244 just to get home. So yesterday I just bit the bullet and booked. Well I’m the type the even after I book something I like to keep an eye on price. So checking this morning the flight went down almost 50 $. Total. I paid with part GC and the rest cash. Is there anyway I could cancel and rebook and if so what happens to the GC. Thanks all

You should be able/allowed to cancel within 24 hours of purchase - but then the card might not be available when you try to rebook.

just an update--I called SW to see exactly what happens with the GC--she said it would go into a credit but then that means we have to use it within the year--and it could take 7 to 10 days to go back to the card if htey could have just transfered it to the lower rate there wouldnt be a problem--so I just took the credit--were on the Hawaiian cruise in may--with SW flying to Hawaii maybe somehow we could use it then

so who knows what the fare will be in that time--if I would have booked just with cash there wouldnt be a problem cause I could just wait for the refund on the CC

my DH just saw this on FB it said it only takes 5 seconds to take money out of my account--why does it take 7-10 business days to get a refund

how true in this case

It could take 7-10 business days, depending how your credit card bank processes refunds. It really does only take the vendor a couple of minutes to process the refund.

I’ve gotten it back in less than a day.. other times it’s been much longer. It’s the bank that takes the processing time.
Isn’t it funny how the pull that money out so fast but to return it to you often takes a looong time. So, they have the money and make money off it, while they return it.
Yup... banking st it’s best, lol

Glad u got some money back. Keep checking you may get even more back.

Unless you are dealing with really busy and coveted dates such as Sunday after Thanksgiving, it is generally better to wait for a sale rather than buy at their everyday low price.
I've been checking airfare for our return flight. It’s always been $244 ....

Just to be clear, there isn't a 24 hour limit for SW flights. You can cancel for free anytime up to 10 minutes before the flight. But yes, how they refund the money is just how you described (and is typical with other airlines - I have credit money on Delta, United, and jetBlue currently).
