Changing lenses often, setting up tripods, waiting for the precise moment, and chasing the light are all a part of my photo trips but it doesn't leave much time for rides!
This sounds like heaven to me... except for the ride part. I'd still like to do the rides

.
Disney is such a target rich environment for the landscape and night photography that I crave now. It is a struggle to balance doing the family thing and taking time for the photography thing. We last went for 5 days in December of 2009 and I flat out exhausted myself getting up early every day to go to the parks first thing and then staying till very late and not getting to sleep until 2 am.
I am pleased to say that we have booked a 10 day trip for June 10th to the 20th at the Beach Club. I vowed NEVER to go when it is hot but Evan is 12 years old and Star Wars is his passion in life so...... we have to make it to a Star Wars Weekend.

I figured with a 10 day trip I could find a way to burn that proverbial candle at both ends, family and photography, with breaks for rainy weather and exhaustion.
I have the parks schedule all mapped out and the ADR's made for the fun part of the trip. Now I have to mentally shift gears into thinking about what lenses I have and how I want to use them. What shots I want to get, the use of locations for certain shots and if I'm going to try and use neutral density filters or just stick with camera adjustments and post processing to combat the blow outs that happen with Fantasmic and other stuff.
I'll make a list of things I want to capture and I'll work on ideas about where I want to be standing when I press that shutter button. I also plan on really giving the D90 a work out before the trip so that the control adjustments are more intuitive. It seems like it takes forever to me when I have to stop and figure out what I need to do to adjust the exposure, focus etc. Sometimes I think I am obsessing too much about the adjustments but I also think that if I felt more comfortable with knowing the limits that I have with my cameras I would stop trying again and again to get it just a little bit better.
I also plan on working out so that I can build up my walking muscles.
Before I left for the last trip I had 2 Achilles tendons that were in the process of rupturing! I got the OK from the Doc to still do the trip but it's not something I ever want to experience again. Fortunately, I feel healthy enough to work out again but I know if I don't get in shape to do the Disney vacation "marathon" it's not going to be a pleasant experience.
So now SingJenn, I ask what are you doing to prepare for your Photography only trip? I think that it's a great idea so no you are not crazy! The crazy people are the ones that try to do it all.
Are you getting any new equipment? What do you think will be your #1 must do photography experience? Looking at all the really great pictures shared here on the Disboards has got to give you some great ideas and really motivate you to increase your skills. What are ya thinking!
I wish you the best of luck and the best of weather on your trip. Here's to positive energy and oodles of health!
