Just Between Friends & Consignment in General

I made a total of $815.xx.
Congrats, mommy2twingles!

I will have a lot of items to haul to the sale. What does everyone use to haul their items into the building? The site suggests a wagon, but I don't have one. I'm thinking totes or laundry baskets. What do they put your unsold items in for you to pick up?

I put alot of items in boxes and totes. Ours was at a convention center and I was able to drive in via the loading docks and empty my car out. Yesterday at pickup you could use a rolling cart or your own boxes/totes. Good luck

our sale has a few rolling racks that people use for the clothes, I put everything else in totes.

I entered 80-ish items this year (I've been consigning a LONG time, my youngest is now 7 .. we don't have as much to sell any more :( ) and sold 63 things. I made more than I thought I would!

one seller in our sale had 400+ items and made over $1100.

Live from THV (and only awake because I'm waiting on my aunt to arrive, she just got to the Carriage House!)...

Some lady at our sale had 1200 items!!!!! That's ridiculous! I never did ask about the dirty details, but they were checking her items for hours!

I just got my results and I'm really disappointed. I was hoping to make $500 and I made $386. I can't believe how many things went half price, and we're talking nice things that were reasonably priced to begin with. I guess it's a combination of the economy and this being a smaller sale then the one I used to participate in back in Atlanta.

I put a lot of time and effort into this and I'm questioning whether it's going to be worth it next time. I may just stick to boy's stuff, I seem to have better luck with it. I mean, I had a pair of girl's Gap jeans, size 10, perfect condition that I put $5 on and they sold for $2.50. It just doesn't feel worth it.

It probably wouldn't bother me so much if my husband hadn't gotten laid off last week :sad1: I found out in the middle of drop-off last week. Maybe that's why some of my stuff didn't sell, I probably stuck it in the wrong places.

I am STILL waiting for my check. It's been 10 days since the end of the sale. I know they had over 200 consignors but I want my money!

I have another sale next week. I am selling my glider and my pack n play along with all the stuff that didn't sell in the last sale plus older kids clothes.

kfeuer, I would have bought your Gap jeans for $5 :).

Kfeuer,
I participated in the Spokane sale last weekend as well, and I was also disappointed. I also had a lot of things go 1/2 off as well that surprised me. I had a boy's Gymbo set of 2 shirts, pants, bib, hat, and 2 pairs of matching socks that went 1/2. I am waiting to see if anything else is added to my check as she said that some things from presale aren't reflected on our sales report. One of my friends also participated and she has over 100 unsold items showing and did NOT pick that many up....

I think it's the economy. More and more people find out about these sales and there is a surplus of goods. I think that I won't even accept half price for my nicer things at the JBF sale. The shopper can tell if you will accept half price pretty easily at the JBF sales. They will know that if they really want the item they will have to pay full price for it and not wait until things go half price.

Thanks for posting, I didn't even notice that comment about some presale items not showing up as sold. Maybe it'll be a little better when I get my check.

As for stuff going half price, I'm going to be more careful about restricting what goes half price next time. It's never been a problem before, because the good stuff always went quickly and the stuff that went half price I didn't care about. That was not the case this time. I'm glad I put full price tags on the 3 very nice coats I got back, I would have been sick to see them go for half price. It amazes me that I could get more for coats in Atlanta then here considering how much more they're used here!

I have participated in the sale in Coeur d' Alene for the past couple of years. People in the Spokane/CDA area are very frugal. Most of my things sell at half off. When I have read the totals of what people get I am amazed. I am lucky to clear $100. But I figure that is better than having mounds of toys and clothes sitting around.

The JBF sale that I sell at is currently going on. I had 53 items and so far 18 have sold and we still have today and tomorrow at full price. I did mark everything to go half off and what doesn't sell will be donated because I want it gone. I hope to make enough for MVMCP tickets which I think even if nothing else sells at full price I will be able to get close anyway....my check currently is estimated at $71 with 35 unsold items still.

Crapity-crap! The sale I participated with two weeks ago required wire hangers only. The one in two weeks (JBF) requires plastic hangers only. I scrounged a bunch of wire hangers for free for the last one and my rejects are still on them. Now I need to BUY plastic ones for this sale. That's an added expense of at least 10-cents per item. Seriously, where is any profit? $10 to consign and then if my $3 item sells for half price at $1.50, the sale keeps .53 cents leaving me with a whopping .97 cents and it cost me .10 cents for the hanger.

Does anyone have a suggestion for where I can find ultra-cheap plastic hangers?

Ugh, that stinks! Why on earth are they requiring plastic hangers, which take up more room on the racks and can snap and break? Sorry, the only source cheaper then Walmart/Dollar Tree that I can think of would be garage sales, but obviously that's hit or miss.

Our sale coordinator sent out a message yesterday saying that the Sunday half price day was their biggest day ever, and they actually suggest pricing higher with the intent of it selling for half-price on Sunday for the next sale. I've never done it that way, but I don't want my nice things going for next to nothing like they did this time, either. I wonder if part of the draw of Sunday is the free admission--I really wish they didn't charge admission on Friday and Saturday. I don't think customers should have to pay to shop when the sale owners are getting 35% of everything that's sold and a $10 fee to boot.

I have received free hangers from Old Navy for the consignment sale that I participate in. I just ask in the morning to save me the hangers that day and I pick them up before they close that day. I know others have gotten hangers from Family Dollar and Kohl's also.

Thanks! I try those places and see if they'll give me some.

I just wanted to let everyone know how I did in my sale. I got my check in the mail and I got $313. I sold sold $380 on the full price day and $76 on the half price day for a total to me (after fees) of $313! Not as bad as I thought it would be and a LOT more sold on the full price day than I expected after seeing how much stuff came back ($273 worth).

I need to get off my butt and start tagging and bagging for this weekend. It's the perfect thing to do while watching the Packer's game tonight.

Just wanted to update the thread :). The Just Between Friends Consignment sale started today. I ended up working it for 4 hours so I could get my extra 5%. My total asking price for my stuff is over $900! I had a few big ticket items, a pack and play, a glider with ottoman and a brand-new Columbia jacket that was originally priced at $100.

I really like that I can keep tabs online :). I wonder how often they will update. The woman who was going through my clothes had a big pile in front of her. She said "Do not worry! I am keeping these for myself!" So I sold stuff before it even went out on the sales floor, LOL!

Awesome! Our sale went well. I made over $1700! Keep in mind though that I have a ton of stuff from my ebay store and most is new with tags. This was only about 20% of my stuff though so I was a little disappointed. First sale in our area and still a lot of bugs to work out but super excited for the spring sale! Thanks everyone for your input!

Wow! You did great :). I too will do the sale next year. They have a schedule when you can shop depending on how much you volunteer. I didn't see a big difference between 12:00 pm when shopping started for people with 12 hours and 6:00 pm when I shopped. It wasn't busy at all and I came home with some real bargains!

The sale organizers were finally able to upload yesterday's sales late last night. I sold $190 worth of clothes in the pre-sale :cool1:.

Of course, I spent $30 yesterday too. BUT for that $30 I got a pair of Limited Too corduroy jeans, a pair of Paris Blues jean capri's, a pair of Roxy capri's, a Limited Too long sleeve shirt, a long sleeve shirt with owls (my DD is wearing it today), two "Life is Good" t-shirts, a pair of jazz dance pants and a Columbia fleece zipper-up jacket.

When I returned to shop there were a lot of pregnant moms shopping the "First Time Parent" sale ... I was hoping they would buy my glider but they didn't :(. I hope they all go to Babies R Us and get a look at how much those things are full price! They'll be back for mine :).
