Just Between Friends & Consignment in General

I have a 4 wheeler that makes noise. I think it is a Kawasaki.......it has never been outside. What do you think I should price it at?? Any suggestions???

Also I have a Little Tykes Shop & Learn Market that retailed for $54. It has never been opened. I need a suggestion for this too.

I am on the consignment committee for my church's consignment sale right outside of Atlanta. We just finished our fall sale, and had our best sale ever. People really seemed to be looking for bargains this sale - most people were checking out with small dollar items, and the checks seemed to be for smaller amounts this sale. Pricing really depends on your area. At our sale, we recommend pricing around 40% of retail for name brand clothes. Consignment is a great way to get rid of your gently used items, and make some extra money. I made $600 this sale - I had lots of boy Abercrombie and Hollister items. There is usually a lack of name brand boy items at our sale, lots and lots of girl clothes, never enough boy clothes.

We put a waiver in our information that we are not responsible for lost/broken/stolen items when you come for pick-up. Since our sale is in a church, we don't generally have many of these issues arise, but they can. Just be aware that no one can watch your items all the time during the sale, and take your chances!

This thread is very timely! We have a sale here in Madison called Half Pint Resale that sounds exactly like the JBF sale :). I was just sorting through my DD's clothes from last year and came down for a DIS break. I am pretty surprised to hear how much you are getting for your clothes! I guess maybe I should price a little higher than I intended. The minimum is $2.

Do many of you put outfits together? Do you put things in lots? If so, how do you keep all the pieces together?

I put my Gymboree sets together, down to the tights and hair accessories. I use ziploc bags and attach it to the hanger.

Anyone know what I should put on a Smart Cycle, barely used, with 2 games (one that came with it and a Deigo game)?

thanks!!

Another question :rolleyes1 I will have a serious truckload of stuff to drop off and I've had to hire someone to do this for me (we will be in WDW!). Can someone give me an idea of how long it will take to drop off and scan in (I'm just guessing this is how they do this?), if there is help available, and if it is a pretty simple process? Also, how long should I expect when he picks up? What if stuff is missing? I hate not having control over this but HAVE to go to Disney!!! :)

Oh, and I have lots of single piece clothing (all sizes) - does that sell almost as well as outfits? Thanks again all!

Ours was the exact opposite. The line to get in for the pre-sale (not even the public sale) was over an hour!! Glad I get to shop before all of that mess!

Those things usually go between $30-45, and they almost always sell at our sales!

Is yours a JBF sale? They do not scan in at JBF. Our sale inspects every piece of clothing and shoes. Other items may go out on the floor, but they have checkers looking at those items for cleanliness, relevence (i.e., I pulled out Blow, 8 Seconds, Belly Dance Lessons, etc. from the DVD bins) and usability (does it work?). If something is missing, you can check the missing tags area (if your sale has one). If it isn't there, it's just gone.

Drop-off can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, pick-up takes 15 mintues or so.

Single items don't sell as well as outfits, typically. If it's a plain tee or sweatshirt, it probably won't, but if it has a cute saying or holiday themed, I notice those sell better than random single items. Outfits are the way to go!! You can also tend to ask a little more when something is all put together like that. I would ask, say, $7 for jeans and $5 for a polo (all Gap), but when I put them together, I sell it for $15. I never bring sets home, they always sell. I only do single items when I run out of tops or bottoms.

I have been "saving" my DD's nicer clothes to sell on eBay but I never seem to hit it right and the last time I sold on eBay I did terrible! So ... I now have a place to sell them all :goodvibes.

Anyway ... I have a TON of winter PJ Pals in good condition. What do you think I should sell them for? Should I bundle 2-3 of them together and sell them or should I sell them individually? New PJ Pals are selling 2 for $20 on the Disney Store website.

Don't know if your helper realizes this, but he's going to have to put all your items out on the sales floor (at least that's the way it works at my sale). It can take awhile depending on how much stuff you have, how many different sizes you have to locate, how many toys, etc. you have. I get my DH to come with me and between us we usually get all the stuff out in around 30-45 minutes, and that's with a ton of stuff. You really have no way of knowing if anything is missing until you get your sold list and compare it to what you brought home. We don't usually get that until 3 days after the sale concludes.

By the way, sets are great but I sell tons of stuff individually, too. If it's good quality and priced right it should sell.

what size are they?

I'd probably put $5/pair on them. Maybe $6/pr and let them go to 50% off (if your sale does that).

Prices really vary by area. First time out, I'd err on the side of keeping prices reasonable (especially with the economy the way it is). I know I wouldn't get the prices some people are quoting here. And quite honestly, I wouldn't pay it either! I'm not going to pay more for used clothing then I can get it for on clearance. One time I saw a used Gap coat priced at $30 and I had just picked up that same coat on clearance a few months earlier for $9.99.

Best thing you can do is shop this sale and see what other people are asking, and then you'll know better what you can get next time.

not sure what scanning in means ...

we try to get people checked in as quickly as possible, but if you have a large order, it will take a while. I'd plan on an hour. Pick up should be quicker.

Is Motionwear a big name in gymnastics wear, or is something that can be bought at Target or Kohl's? I bought a couple of ballet leotards last Fall for $4 each. I'll probably put that on them this fall.

that's how we're supposed to do pants... with the wire hangers and safety pins. Sometimes I wonder if I'm not better off donating the pants, because it would save the wear and tear on my fingers, LOL! :lmao:

I got the 2 week warning for my sale yesterday. SO not ready. But I'm motivated -- I'm hearing sales at consignment sales are up because of the economy!

I honestly have no idea where these came from, but they're nice quality and they're in great shape, so I think $5 is reasonable. I only paid .50 for them so even if they go half price I'm good!

I'm with you on the sore fingers. I've already pricked myself more then once. I've been pricing/cleaning/assembling/changing batteries all day and I'm pooped! I'll be so glad when I'm done.

The sale is for size 7/8 and below and my DD is in a size 10, so I can't shop the sale. Plus, it's only twice a year and I am motivated to get this stuff out NOW. I guess I will err on the side of what our local resale shops charge and I don't mind is something gets sold at half price. I hope they have enough volunteers to head off "stashing" of items to get at half price as someone else mentioned at their sale.

I've been holding out a ton for ebay too but never seem to get around to it. Any ebay sellers out there prefer JBF to ebay? I used to do a once a year consignment sale held by the junior league and did okay but never more than 280 even including legos and big toys.

I'd love to get it all out of here in one fell swoop but after fees, I'm thinking ebay would still make considerably more for DD8's outgrown, and sometimes still tagged, gymbo. Have any of you who use JBF also sold on ebay to compare by chance? :confused3

Ours is a JBF sale - it is both their and my first one so I seem to have tons of questions. We have a meeting tomorrow night so I will be sure to ask about dropping things off etc. I guess I just don't understand the process (if they don't scan everything in, how do they know you brought everything you printed tags for?) since I have never done one before. Our area eats these type of sales up though. There was a similar (not JBF but Mom2Mom) one in the spring and all the ladies I talked to sold out of merch within hours. I am a little worried though because there is a Mom2Mom sale either this weekend or next at the sale place! Either way, I know they will draw crazy crowds.

Regarding ebay, I sell tons on there and am moving ALL kid related inventory to the JBF sale (my store will be on vacay settings anyway) so I can let you know after the sale (first part of October) how that goes...

Good luck everyone!

The scanning is so you know what sold (and makes it easier to keep track for the sale owner). You don't have to bring everything you made a tag for on the site. I keep my off season things on there as I assemble them throughout the year.

You'll know if you're missing anything when you pick up (as opposed to PP who said you'd have to wait for a list) since you can track your JBF sales online (ours is uploaded each night, others, especially if it's their first sale, may take a little longer). I knew exactly what I sold the night before pick up. I was missing a couple things, but, like I said, it's just gone. The rewards outweigh the possibility of losing items for me, though.

Hi...I have never heard of JBF; however, we have a children's consignment sale in my city twice a year. They take just about everything...clothing, baby equipment (except for car seats and potty seats), toys, books, games, videos, decor, seasonal and holiday items etc. The list goes on. It must be like new, though. You register as a consignor and enter all of your items online. They print out the tags for you, you pick up at a designated location and you pin the tags (carefully, following their instructions) or tape them to your items. All consignors receive 60% automatically. If you work a three hour volunteer shift, you get 70%. If you work 20 volunteer hours, you get 80%. You are able to track your sales online as the sale progresses, which is really nice. The sale lasts one week, with several days prior to the opening reserved for consignors, grandparents and expectant parents to buy before the general public.

I have mostly Gap, Gymboree, Children's Place and Talbot's Kids stuff. I take very good care of it. The instructions from our sale are to price these types of brands at 30 to 40% of retail (especially if they are NWT). I usually price in the 40% area and my clothing sells. I also price equipment (Pack-n-Plays, high chair, bouncer seats etc.) at around 45%. I do not sell my items at half price and I don't donate all of them at the end (only things I really don't want back). Also, nothing can be priced less than $2.00, but items can be bundled (i.e. several onsies, books etc.).

Last sale, I had 60 items and got five back. I made $330. We have a sale that is currently going on. I had 79 items this time. I'll probably sell more next time. I have a ton of stuff here, but I just have a hard time parting with it. Sentimental value and memories, you know? Anyway, I've never had a problem with this consignment sale. I think you should try yours and see what happens. Good luck!

I will only have about that much for our second sale. I took almost 300 items and brought home about 50. I made about a grand. That's the most I've made yet and the most I've brought. I don't know where all this stuff was hiding! A lot of the items I brought home were singles, but now I've found things to pair with a lot of them, so they ought to sell in October. Now, though, I'm combing the house to add more stuff so I can get a big check in October.

My favorite thing, that I'm so surprised people buy, are bags of junk. :lmao: I get those bags comforters come in and fill them with miscellaneous toys (McD's toys, coloring books, kids' magazines, lots of stuff we've come across at no cost) and slap a price tag on it, and people buy this stuff!!:banana:

Thanks for the tips. I just signed up for my first JBF sale. :goodvibes
