I just received info. on DVC and DH and I are planning to join but I can't believe the number of questions I have.
One big one is this: How far in advance can I borrow points? Only from next year? And with that, for how long can I bank points?
Thanks for your help.

You will be assigned a use month when you join. Lets just say that is February. Your current years points would be allocated into your account in February each year. You can borrow one full years points into a year and you can bank up to one full years points. So every third year you could have 3 years worth of points if needed.

There are also deadlines for deciding to bank points. You can't just decide at the end of the Use Year to rollover any leftover points. Also, once points are either banked or borrowed, they cannot be moved again.

Adding the natural extention to Pam's statement:

1) Always use Banked points from last year first.
2) Always Bank Points as early as possible
3) Only borrow from next year the minimum points you will need for this year.
4) Expect to want more points, regardless of banking, borrowing and how many points you buy at first.....this DVC thing is addictive. :)

To expand Terry's Point:
(assume 150 pt buy-in)
Year 1: Bank 150 points to year 2.
Year 2: Borrow 150 points from year 3. With banked points, your total is 450 points for use in year 2. Go on big DVC trip. Take me with you. :)

Year 3: Do nothing. You have no points for year 3 left.
Year 4: See Year 1
Year 5: See Year 2...esp. the last sentence. :)
Year 6: See year 3.

Repeat until 2042.

Of course, at some point you might decide that going every year on a smaller trip makes more sense...or you decide to add more points since you can't possibly live without Disney at least once a year, if not twice.

One unsolicited piece of advice....read as many threads here as you can...you'll see questions asked you'd never have thought to think.

Hope this helps,
Joe

MEGADAN....welcome to the DVC DIS Board. You've definitely found the best DVC source of information on the internet.

As jmminarik said, read, read, read these threads and you'll learn a lot, even from the ones where people seem to be debating somewhat heatedly! And ask questions. Lots of questions. You'll find people here that know the answers or how to find them. The vast majority of us are very happy DVC owners, but few look at the DVC with rose colored glasses. We see the faults, but appreciate what it brings us.

Again, welcome and come back with more questions any time!:D

I see the others got ya covered with your questions.......

I just wanted to say WELCOME TO THE DIS!!!

:bounce: :bounce: Glad to have ya aboard! :bounce: :bounce:
