Hi

For the past few months my wrist has been hurting and have been feeling numbness in my ring finger and little finger. I finally went to the doctors today. My GP has referred me to an Orthopedic Surgeon. She said it was Cubital Tunnel Syndrome :sad2:

She has prescribed me some diclofenac tablets to try and take the pain away. She said the surgeon may either give me a steriod injection only or refer me for surgery as well.

I will be picking up my letter of referal tomorrow and will be calling my hospital tomorrow to get an appointment. Fingers crossed a steriod injection only and no surgery.

At least I have managed to get the ball rolling now, but a little anxious as to how the treatment will go. I cant imagine surgery and having three little minxes on my hands :)

oh im sorry to hear that  i hope your treatment goes well.
i must admit ive not heard of this syndrome befire

Its basically the other nerve on the arm. Carpel Tunnel is the radial nerve and cubital is the ulnar nerve. I have not heard of many people suffering with Cubital tunnel though. Its a pain in the back end.

Hope your treatment goes well Michelle:hug:

Hope everything goes well Michelle, it sounds painful

Hi Michelle

You have my sympathy big time honey. I had the 2nd injection as you know 6 weeks ago which has made my arm worst. I am back to see the specialist a week on Monday to find out what is next. I am back to typing one handed as back in a sling ! big hugs to you xx

CTS is quite common really, hope that only an injection is needed.

Claire ;)

Hi Michelle,

Sorry to hear your in pain hun  I know how you feel  i've had what the docs thought was tennis and golfers elbow till it went down into my wrists and fingers (i had that injection as well Ouch) turns out i have some form of arthritis :confused3

Hope the injection works for you  Keep us posted on how you're getting on :rolleyes1 :)

Just another one chiming in with my sympathies. I'm lucky in that I have carpal tunnel, but only as a side effect of pregnancy (at least I hope). I had it last time with ds, lost feeling in thumb and first 2 fingers on both hands, starting only at night, but progressively all day until I gave birth. Then it developed into Dequervaines tendonitis (sp?) that did eventually go away with physio, but man it was painful...my thumbs would lock at the most inopportune time, like when I was alone and changing a diaper!! Couldn't pick up ds!! I also had to wear splints on both hands, which again I couldn't do if I was alone, since I couldn't pick up the baby without him squirming out of my grip.

At least this time around it doesn't appear to be as bad, mostly at night, but then again, I've got 11 weeks left, so who knows. Again I hope it goes away after pregnancy, cause I'd go insane if it stayed.

Good luck with all your appointments!!

Michelle, sending you :grouphug: and plenty of pixiedust: - keeping my fingers crossed that your pain can be resolved without surgery. Best wishes...

 Sorry to hear you're suffering Michelle, I hope it gets sorted out soon

Mandy :)

Hi sorry to hear your diagnose though hope it is sorted soon.:grouphug:

Hope the injection works  BTW a friend of mine had to have the operation and she recovered really well and it was a success, it wasn't the best timing though as her little boy was only a few months old so changing his nappies was a bit tricky!

Hi

Thanks for your kind words.

I hope it doesnt needs surgery. Not because I am scared of hospitals or operations anything. Its more because of the implications it will cause with my social life. Having three kids to look after etc. My dh is excellent I know he will help out as much as he can.

The GP was concerned because I have lost so much strength in that hand. It feels cold alot more now. Also the index finger and thumb are so sensitive now sometimes I cant even touch them without the pain being imense. I cant weight bare anymore or lift things sometimes. Even have problem with driving. She said I should of seen her earlier. Havent I heard these words said on many occassions. It is hard sometimes. You think oh it will pass. Probably strained it, but no I have damage there that should of been seen to.

Because I work at my local hospital I will get seen earlier. Only because it will cause them less hassle to get me fixed :lmao: (my ward managers words) than have me off sick with it regularly. Cost the trust more money :rotfl2: Not that care for my lively hood aye!
