We are just back from 2 weeks in Florida, of which 10 days was in WDW! We spent 5 nights at Old Key West and 5 nights at the Gaylord Palms. I'd be happy to answer any questions. We weathered Charley at the Gaylord, and we felt very safe, since it was built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. Still...it was amazing watching the winds whip around outside. Anyway...I'd be happy to answer any questions. By the way...we had a terrific time!

Glad to hear you made it through Charley! How were the pools at Gaylord Palms? What did you like best about this hotel and is there anything you didn't like? Thanks.

The Gaylord is awesome! Of course, it helped that we got upgraded to a suite...for free. Mind you, I got the Gaylord for $85.00/night on Priceline. There are 2 pools at the Gaylord. The "Octopus" pool is for families and kids. It is great. My dd (8 years old and not very tall) could go anywhere in the pool because no part of it is over 3.5 feet. It also has a zero depth entry, as well as a cool Octopus slide. The Key West pool is adults only. My dad thought it was nice.

The Palms is huge! It is relatively new and is still very new looking. What we liked best was the pool and the location...very easy to get to and from Disney. I guess what we liked least (aside from Charley) were the restaurants. They are very expensive. Also, parking is problematic. However, since my dad has a temporary handicapped parking tag..valet parking was free.

I think you do need to keep in mind that the Gaylord Palms is primarily a convention center. If you happen to get there when there is a huge convention, as we did, parking is problematic and the place is very busy. That being said...we would stay there again in an instant.

Did you see any damage in the parks?? I have heard people write about MK and Downtown Disney, but no mention of damage at Epcot or MGM....any info is helpful..thanks..and hope you had fun....:sunny:

I don't know what condition the parks are in. Charley hit on our last day in Florida, and we left the following morning before sunrise, so we couldn't even see anything. Sorry!

When we checked in, there was a huge convention going on. We wanted 2 beds, and the clerk asked if one bed and a pull out was OK. I said I'd prefer 2 beds...he said did he mention the pull out was in a suite..at no additional charge. I said OK! We felt very lucky.
