Vital,
How very lucky for you, your first trip, that is the most exciting I think. Your DS 6 is the perfect age for a first trip, everything will be so special for you all. The pool is far enough away from the walkways to the rooms that I dont think it will be too noisey, but I think that they are preferred rooms, and not sure worth the money since everything is so close. The resort is beautiful this time of the year with everything starting to bloom.
As far as packages at the park, you can take them with you on everything, I saw people with pull along backpacks, as well as every other imaginable type of bag, no problems. They do go thru everything upon entry to the park but other then that there are no restrictions.
I cant really comment on the resort transportation because we had a car, and drove everyday. I know there is a bus that leaves from the front of the resort to the parks, and it never seemed really crowded when we passed the bus stop in the mornings. There is a boat you can take to DTD which is a really nice way to get there since parking is such a hassle there. We did take the boat to POR for dinner one night.
There are so many wonderful things to see your first time, you didnt mention which parks you are planning on going to, but these would be my picks for you with a 6yrold DS.
MK- Small world, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Jungle cruise ( if you ask the skipper he might let your son drive the boat, very cute), Country Bear Jamboree, Snow white, If you like coasters and hes ok with them, Splash Mtn, and Big thunder Mtn are fun. Also Carousel of Progress is fun, and if he likes cars, the Indy speedway is fun, and Buzz lightyear is a hit with the younger set.
AK- Kilamanjaro Safari, if you dont mind getting wet then Kali River Rapids is a lot of fun, again if coasters are your thing, try Expedition Everest. There is a dinosaur ride, but can be scary for some little ones. There is a petting zoo at Conservation Station also that includes a cute little train ride to and from. The Lion King show is a must see IMHO.
MGM- The great movie ride is one of my Ds favorites, if he likes Star Wars then you should ride Star tours (kind of a ruff ride), Muppet Vision 3D is very funny, Fantasmic is wonderful. There is also TOT and RNRC if he is not scared of these type of rides. We felt Lights, Motors,Action was a dissapointment too much talking, not enough action for us. We waited on line for close to an hour, and I personaly would not recommend this show.
Epcot- Although my personal favorite park, is not always a hit with small children. My DS loves it now, but he was younger he only cared about Spaceship earth. Now he does like Test Track, Soarin(wonderful) and Universe of Energy, along with the Boat rides in both Mexico and Norway.
Hope I gave you some insight, and I wish you a great trip. The first time is always the best, especially when seen thru the eyes of a child. I kept reminding my DS about how in Awe of everything he was when he was small, kind of made me sad that all of the magic isnt there for him any more. Me, I have been to WDW many many times, and the magic is always there for me.
Im just a big kid at heart.
