We just got back from our weeklong stay at the Polynesian. We were on the dining plan, and I totally recommend it. We ate at Kona's, Alfredo's (Epcot), Liberty Tree character dinner, Hoop Dee Doo Revue, Prime Time, Hollywood & Vine (Fantasmic dinner package) and the Luau. I'll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about any of these places!!!!

:wave2: We will be doing dinner at Alfredo's and Hollywood & Vine next week. What was your take on these places? TIA

Welcome back, Holly!! Tell me about KONA please, what did you get, how was it, all the details!! We're going for the first time in Nov. and I'm really looking forward to it! :Pinkbounc :cheer2:

I'd also like to hear your review about Alfredo's. Did you have lunch or dinner there? Details, please. Thanks! :thumbsup2

please tell me about the luau, I am worried about it with all the negative comments I have read

Wow! A week at the Poly with the dining plan. That is going to be me in about 86 days . . . not that I'm counting. :lmao:

Anyway, I am curious about whether going to HoopDeeDoo and the Luau in one week was overkill. I have them both booked for our upcoming trip and am a little worried.

Okay, I'm gonna try to do this all in one post. I LOVED Kona's. For appetizer I had the chicken wings, then I had the terrriaki steak w/mashed potatoes and then for desert the chocolate lava cake. My mother in law had the seafood chowder (or something like that) they all raved about how good it was. I think that was the best place we ate at all week. Alfredo's was for dinner and it was okay. The fetticine which seems to be there big ticket item was pretty good. Hollywood and Vine was good they had a good variety of items on the buffet. The luau is something that I could have missed. For one, I couldn't see anything and the show didn't keep my attention. The hoop dee doo on the other hand I thought was very entertaining. I hope I didn't leave anything out. Let me know if I did.

How did you utilize your snack credits? Did you use them every day, stock pile them, use them for b-fast...etc. Just wondering as we are trying to get good ideas for our upcoming trip with DDP!

I hope you hada good trip! i would love to hear about H&V and LTT. Thanks. :thumbsup2

How far in advance did you have to make your ADRs?

We normally used 2 snack credits each day. I would honestly forget that we had them so my husband would use them to get something to drink, etc. But I think on average we used 2 per day. As for breakfast, we didn't eat since we knew we would eat lunch at around 11. My husband and I are not big breakfast people. I made the ADR's for the Hoop Dee Doo and Prime Time about 3 months in advance. As for the rest of them I made them the week we were there. I should have done more research on the dining plan, but all in all everything worked out. We didnt' have an ADR for the Luau but they told us to get on the waiting list and if someone didn't show we would be seated. Next time, I will definatly make ALL reservations before hand.

Hi

I called AAA to confirm all of our stuff today. The agent is encouraging us to buy the dining plan (5 adults/ a child). She said she used the plan when she was there. My Dad thinks it's just another money getter- there will be a catch or something to the deal. Where did you eat you counter service meals? I figured the value of that to be at least $10 if not closer to 12 or $13. The Table meals I figured could be anywhere from $15 to $30. We know we will all be eating at the Hoop Review, and 3 will be eating at a CInderella Breakfast. We are staying at the Coronado so I know we will eat there, also. I would appreciate anymore thoughts on your cost savings. How much do you thinkg you saved?

I've never used the plan so I can't tell you how much I saved, but I have it for our upcoming August trip and I CAN'T WAIT!!! I know that I will be saving a lot of money. There are always extra drinks to buy, etc., and we don't really think about certain things ahead of time. Whenever we go, the money just seems to "fly"...and by the end of the week, we're spending more than we anticipated and have to be more careful. With the plan, it's all done ahead of time, and we'll be able to order anything we want. No money to worry about!!! To me, that's worth it in a nutshell.

cvns1: Two of us on the dining plan never spent less than $120 on a TS meal.
Remember it includes tax and 18% tip.
Most entrees were in the $25-$35 range . Appetizers in the $10-$15
Desserts @ $6

So for us, the TS meal cost more than the whole plan for the day and so the CS and snack were 'free'. We ate at Le Cellier, WPC, Coral Reef, and CRT dinner.

This trip we have free dining and have ADR at : RoseNCrown, Chefs, Boma, Marrakesh, Le Cellier and WPC again and Flying FIsh and Party of the SEnses and Spoodles!

I doubt any TS meal will cost less than $50 per person

Hello....I am very worried about the news I have read on other threads that adults sharing meals on the DP is not longer being allowed...we are 2 paying adults and I really was planning on sharing some meals just because of the volume of food if you get an appetizer, entree and dessert?

Can you shed any light on the sharing ban?

I'm getting into this discussion way late, however, I too recommend the dining package!!! I won't ever do Disney without it. We ate at Alfredo's twice, Teppanyaki, Capt Jacks twice and the 50's cafe in MGM. We didn't share meals, however my 10 year old daughter eats off of the kid menu (very picky eater) so we told the server that we wanted to use three table service meals (me, my hubby, and my neice) and we paid cash for my daughters $7 meal. No one seemed to have a problem with that. As for the snacks, we used them randomly also for an ice cream here and there, a pop corn during the parade, a pop or water whenever. We actually ran out of those first. We regularly used counter service for lunches and breakfast when we ate breakfast (usually cereal). We ate an actual sit down breakfast at Chef Mickey's and they only charged us one tableservice each, and I think only one other time did we have breakfast. We did CRT but that was paid for back in March so we didn't use it for the dining.

I don't know how much money we saved either, but I know it was a lot. Last year we went and didn't do the dining plan and we probably spent about $800 on food. That was 2 people eating 3 meals a day and having a snack once or twice a day. This year it helped me space it out so I wouldn't eat as much. The counter service meals averaged about $30 and all of our table service meals were around $75-100. It's definalty worth it. And not to mention, you don't have to carry around so much cash with you. It's all on your key. As for counter service we ate at the American pavailion in Epcot, Pizzafari, the fish place in the Magic Kingdom across from the Haunted Mansion (I forgot the name), and we went over to the grand floridian and ate at their counter service place. To be honest, I was a little disappointed that Captain Cook's was being remodeled. Where they have it at in the mean time is just not enough room.
