Just back with 30+ meals to talk about...

I would love to hear more about Kona Cafe, please! And any other details you have.

TIA!
We had two dinners at Kona Cafe. The first one was much better than the second mostly due to service issues. The bread they bring to the table is great. Both times we had to ask for dipping oil to go with it as they forgot to bring it. We ordered soda's and a couple of pressed pots of Kona coffee for our beverages. Had another pressed pot with dessert and took two bags of the pure stuff home for future enjoyment. It is truly the best coffee I have ever tasted!

I ordered the sticky wings (so good) and the coconut almond chicken. The best part of that dish is the salad that comes on the plate. Delicious! Honestly, while it was a nice entree, I would order the terryaki steak next time. I was envious of my DH's. The Kileau Torte rivals the best dessert you can find anytime, anywhere. That warm molten center has the most intense chocolate flavor. Served up ala mode you won't find a better dessert. Yum. Yum. Yum again!

The kiddie cone was a hit with the younger cousins. I think some adults even have dessert envy when they see it. Who wouldn't love all that cotton candy and other colorful morsels around and on top of the cone?

On our second visit my older sons both tried the 50th anniversary celebration dessert which was this orange mousse creation. They liked it. I hated it. Our not-so-friendly server informed me that, indeed, it was one of those love it or hate it kinds of desserts. She even tried to talk my oldest son out of ordering it. Now I understand why...Why on earth would you order this when the kileua torte stands only inches away??????? :confused3

How was the 1900 Park Faire breakfast? Was it very crowded? How was the food?
Also, how was LTT for lunch? Can you tell us what you had and how you liked it?
Hope everyone's healthy now!

Overall experience--Coral Reef
Best dessert-Kileau Torte at Kona
Biggest surprise--Nine Dragons (great beef appetizer, wonderful sesame chicken, but nasty dessert)
Biggest disappointment--Le Cellier
Best steak--Kona terryaki steak

I'm so happy to hear that you like Coral Reef. We have added that to our list of ADR's. What did you order?

Nine Dragons was also a big surprise for us also. We went last summer and enjoyed it so much. We also ordered the honey sesame chicken. It was delicious. When we ordered dessert the waitress only gave us an option of ice cream (not sure if that's all that came with the dining plan or not). I did not like the ice cream. We ordered chocolate and it had weird chewy pieces in it. :scared: .

Thanks for the input Belle.

1900 Park Fair was a very good experience. It wasn't jam packed. Just a nice little crowd. (We went yesterday which is off season) The characters were really nice. My 2 yo DS was afraid of the face characters. He was great with the stuffed characters. The biscuits and gravy were the best of the trip if you like that sort of thing. The omelettes were also better than any others we had. There was a nice variety of items--all well made.

LTT-What can I say? If I would have ordered dessert (which I didn't) I might have been able to say that this was the best meal of the trip (as usual). That strawberry vinaigrette on the salad is so delicious! The rolls (by request now only) are so good--a little sweet in the Sally Lunn tradition. We are huge fans of the salmon/pumpkin bread/ spaghetti squash entree and it did not disappoint this year. I would say it was better than ever. We are such big fans of the LTT (lunch only) that we purchased 8 of their souvenir glass mugs to take home so we can remember one of our favorite spots each time we have a drink in them. Most of the family ordered the birch beer (like a reddish rootbeer) as their beverage.
We were seated in the Thomas Jefferson room this time, which gave us a thrill since we had never dined in that particular room before.

Sorry to hear of your DH illness! Sure hope he recovers quickly. We expereinced all three bugs too. In fact, I almost wondered if it was all the same thing. YucK!

Our service wasn't very good at the tea either. We were seated at one of the banquettes too...the closest one to the stairs. Almost immediately, the hostess started to seat a couple of women right next to us. What is with that! They asked to be closer to the windows and were moved. Shortly thereafter a couple with a 3/4 yo were seated by us. Although the little boy was climbing around, his mother was the loud one :rotfl: and really detracted from our experience.

Our server paled in comparison to theirs though. My daughter asked a couple of questions about the teas. The server looked at me as if to answer for her? :confused3 I asked if the GF tea was sweet at all. The server told me it was a black tea. At that point, I knew she was clueless. The server for the adjoining table brought a sample to the table. That would have helped my daughter but our server made no such offer. She was also very hard to track down. She moved my daughter's teapot to the column area which made more room on the table but put it out of reach without standing up. I think she was the only server whom I tipped a little less than the 20% DDE discount.

We ate at a few of the other places you did: CRT, Kona, Boma for Breakfast. Which meal did you have at CRT? And how was Le Cellier?

And were you in the lobby of the Polynesian Monday morning the 9th? There were two little boys playing and a mom nearby talking with an older couple. I thought of you but figured they would think I was crazy if I asked "Are you Belle5?" :rotfl:

Good thing you hesitated! They would have thought you were crazy, indeed! :rotfl2: I think the morning of the 11th or so we stopped by the Poly for some Kona coffee on our way into the MK but that's it.

Thank you for your good wishes! Actually, I was wrong when I said it was bronchial pneumonia. It's bacterial pneumonia. It all started with that high fever/ cough thing we all contracted at WDW. I knew we were in trouble when every time I turned around the first few days we were there I saw tons of parents administering medicine to their toddlers. And the coughing everywhere... :crazy2:   We, of course, joined the chorus within a few days of arriving! That is not surprising that y'all had the same type illnesses, I guess. :sad1: Hope you are all recovering without complications!

I wonder if we were served by the same woman? Our service started out pretty badly, but in the end the woman became more helpful as my mother kept pressing her for answers to various questions. I was not crazy about the hostess. She was unfriendly and not the least interested in giving you a seat that would make you happy in an almost empty room. Hmmm

I posted a separate review of Le Cellier just now if you want to look for it!
