We are just back from our first summer and first "no-parks" trip. We stayed at VWL and the two best words I can use to describe the trip are "hot" and "crowded." We decided that we will never be going back in the months of June, July, August or September again!
We decided to do a "no-parks" trip since we had just been to all of the parks in both October and January. We thought this would be a good chance to experience all of the other activities Disney has to offer. But honestly, we really missed the parks! It was more difficult than we thought to stay away, but a fun trip anyway.
A couple of disappointments, in that we ran into a lot of grumpy cast members and noticed a lot of lapses in maintenance on this trip. For example:
- Both the main pool and the quiet pool at WL were in need of a cleaning. There was a fair amount of algae growing on the sides of both of them.
- We noticed lights out along the WL dock on several occasions (and they weren't fixed the next day even after being reported).
- There was a lot of garbage (straws, lids, napkins, etc.) in the bushes around the property.
- The elevators at the Contemporary Resort (going to California Grill) were embarrassing, they were so dirty. The carpets were disgusting and paint was chipping everywhere.
- We ran into the two most grumpy hostesses ever at the FW Trail's End Restaurant. It took them a full three minutes to even look up and greet us!
These things didn't ruin our trip by any means, but definitely gave me some concern and disappointment as a DVC member and Disney shareholder.
But overall, a nice trip. Now I'm so sad because this is the first time in a while that I haven't had a trip on the books. We probably won't be back until October 2005.
