Just returned home this morning after an 8 day trip to WDW... it was in the mid-70's this morning when we left Orlando (around 7am) and it was in the upper 30's when we returned to Nashville... yikes!

a little bit about our family - we are seasoned Disney visitors, making yearly trips since 1998. We've stayed onsite and off, at a variety of resorts. We don't usually eat many sit down meals, we'd rather spend our time and money on other things :)

here's a couple of notes about our October 5-13 trip:

crowds: the crowds were interesting. there were definitely lots of people around, resorts and parks were busy... but we didn't encounter many long waits. Our shortest waits were on October 5 & 6 (Thursday and Friday). We went to Epcot on October 5 (in the evening) and the Magic Kingdom on Friday morning and did the evening EMH at the Animal Kingdom.

Crowds were BIG at Epcot on Saturday - from what we experienced and what cast members told us. We had a 10:30am breakfast with Sleeping Beauty and got the heck out of there, LOL....

After the Columbus Day weekend, things leveled off to a moderate level. As I mentioned, there were plenty of people around, but the waits weren't awful, considering.

weather: beautiful, fantastic, spectacular. There was a huge thunderstorm north of WDW Saturday night, with amazing lightning... and it sprinkled yesterday, but other than that? perfection. :sunny:

MNSSHP (October 10, Tuesday): This was our fifth Not So Scary Halloween Party.... I was up-to-date on all the concerns about crowd control before we left. I saw 2 families in the park right after 7pm without wristbands, and they were politely and firmly asked to leave. Our wristbands were in plain sight, so we weren't really asked to show them throughout the night. We got a LOT of candy, the cast members were especially generous when they saw my youngest DD sound asleep in the stroller, LOL. Loved the parade and the fireworks.

I have to say that we were disappointed in the 7:00pm start time, right after the park closing. Not because the day guests were leaving.... that was handled well, I think. But it seemed to us that there might not have been as many decorations (no luminaries around the flag pole, for example) and the anticipation of the party starting wasn't quite as high. When it was 7:00, the party just started. Having said that, there might have been some announcement on Main Street and we didn't hear it... we were in Toontown at 7:00pm for face painting.

As far as I know, the party was not sold out. The crowds were moderate... seemed to be the worst from 8-11. The first and last hour were much lighter. Toontown was a mess most of the night, as was the lines to see Pooh & friends and Cinderella's carriage.

Transportation: fantastic. buses everywhere this week.

we rented a car, and for those that track what's available on National's Emerald Aisle? We arrived at MCO around 4:00 on October 5, there were NO intermediate or full-size cars on the Aisle. none. zilch. we were given a premium car to drive instead ;)

other guests: going to Disney World is a fantastic sociology experiment.... we witnessed some of the kindest and rudest people I've ever seen this week. People never cease to amaze me on both ends of the spectrum.

the year of a million dreams: we didn't win any prizes, but saw many people with pin lanyards, dream fastpasses, and mouse ears. I "think" someone might have won something kind of big yesterday at the Magic Kingdom, we saw a group approached by the Dream Squad, accompanied by a fim crew. Not sure what that was about at all... could have been a commercial? I don't know. While talking to a couple of cast members, I learned that people are already stalking the Dream Squad in the parks and complaining about not winning prizes :sad2: Enthusiasm seems to be high among much of the cast for this promotion, which is nice. My middle son and daughter were each awarded a Magical Moments certificate on 2 separate occasions and the cast members were awesome :)

That's about all - I'll be happy to answer any questions!

Thanks for your thorough descriptions of the parks during your trip! I think it really helps other DISers who may be planning a future trip during the same time frame! Glad it was great weather for you! :goodvibes

Your post made me really excited for my trip in 8 days.
I just hope it is not too hot while I am there!
That's ashame about guests stalking the dream squad. I just hope it doesn't squash the CM's excitemement too much. I can imagine that they will be tired of this promotion by December if folks just don't calm down about not winning a "prize."

I purposely have not told my kids about YOAMD and all the fabulous things I have read on the boards because I do not want to set the wrong expectations. I have spent weeks talking to them about queueing etiquette, behaviour and just enjoying the magic - I am sincerely hope that our trip is full of pixie dust and not tainted by my kids asking why CMs are being stalked by people asking why they didn't get a prize!

I wished that you could train everyone before they make the trip :lmao:

Hi, we returned home yesterday, 10/12. There were plenty of people around, but lines were very manageable. If something seemed long, we just came back later. That only happened 2 or 3 times in 5 days. Ten minutes was about the average. The weather was as super as the OP stated. I'd say most days were mid 80's, breezy, and sunny. If the sun felt warm, we just moved to the shade for a couple minutes and felt fine.

We had two "dream" moments. Our party (6 adults) received pin lanyards coming out of Spaceship Earth on Sunday 10/8 around 9:30 a.m. Then on Wednesday we received park dream fastpasses walking into Journey into Imagination about 9:50 a.m. We were VERY excited. A CM in UK told DH that they only give out about 50 of the fastpasses a day for all parks. Don't know if this is true, but made us feel very special. He also said the CMs also try to "stalk" the dream teams for them!

We were also at the Halloween party on Tuesday. If I remember correctly, there was an announcement at 7:00 that the party was beginning. (We were having Casey's hot dogs by the ice cream store.) We felt most guests were fine and mannerly. The few people we shook our heads at were on our planes going and coming - some really rude behavior.

It was a magical trip!! :thumbsup2

SPOLIER ALERT (Magical Moments details in this post)

another thought about the Million Dreams thing.... early in our trip (Oct 5 & 6) the Dream Squad was very easy to spot. They were wearing all wearing the same, very notice-able white vests. On Monday, we thought that maybe we weren't seeing them as often, then we realized that it was because they weren't wearing the vests anymore. If you don't know what they are doing in the parks, they kind of just blend in.

We did not see anyone actually getting a dream, so I have no idea what that actually looks like. What we did learn (and actually was reinforced from past trips) is that you can't make the magic happen... it has to happen to you. There's all sorts of cool things happening at all of the parks, even if you don't win a physical prize.

My daughter's Magical Moment was totally unexpected and was perfect.

spoiler space (don't read any more if you don't want to be surprised. we saw the same Magical Moment happen to other children throughout the week)

We were entering Epcot from the International Gateway, and my daughter was dressed as Sleeping Beauty for our princess breakfast. As we approached the gate, the cast members made a HUGE fuss over her and requested that she sign their autograph book. She got a certificate and coloring page, as well. It was ADORABLE and the cast was perfection princess:

We were at WDW at the same time. We got home last night.
We did not attend the party, but were in MK on October 10th. When we left around 5:30 or so, we saw a few signs up (one was in front of City Hall) that said tickets were available.

We felt most guests were fine and mannerly.

overall we did, too.... we saw two or three really rude parents, and one of them made us laugh... the dad had raised his voice, some people might call it yelling depending on how loud your family is ;) Dad is speaking is this loud-ish voice, people are staring, and he's telling his son not to embarrass his family. I have no idea what the son did, but dad was doing a pretty good job of embarrassing the family on his own, LOL.

We also saw one incident that a CM actually had to get involved with. A large non-English speaking family was trying to tie the line up in the Toontown tent so they could wait for another member of their group. (they were a party of 12) They were shouting for the missing person, and telling her how to get through the crowd to get to the front... when she finally got there, the leader of this group unhooked the rope and let her through. The CMs working were NOT happy and took them aside.

We're leaving for WDW in 3 weeks. I chose not to tell my kids (8 & 10) about the Dream Squads, either. :thumbsup2

It just seems like it would be setting them up for disappointment and I don't want them to always be distracted, wondering if this one or that one is a Dream Squad CM.

Just let the pixiedust: happen naturally!

Now that you mention it, you are right. At first they all wore white vests, now none of them wear them. I guess they are not as easy to spot this way and they do blend in better with the crowd. Interesting change.

What Princesses were at your breakfast in Epcot?

We are doing that breakfast in December and looking for Belle in her yellow gown.

Thanks for the info. Like others, we are not telling our kids about the Dream Squads. I don't want them looking out for stuff like that the whole trip

How were the crowds toward the end of the trip, say 12th or 13rd?
What days did you do what parks, and how do you think that went?
Sorry, leaving in TWO days1!

thanks for the info!! It gets me excited to hear from others just back!! I agree about not telling the kids about the Dream Squad. They'd be so bummed if they weren't chosen. It would be difficult if someone next to them got picked though. Thankfully mine would handle it okay (i hope)!
