I do think there are done koolaid drinkers out there but most are simply Disney apologists. I.e. Disney can do no wrong and just be happy you are in a park.
People canceling is a real thing. I just cancelled my May trip (need to update my ticker), 8 days WDW lost out on because of FP+ . I got to double dip during our September trip and even in September on busier days (5/6 crowds) the downsides of the new system were glaring.
I've got a 8 day bounce back still booked for September at Poly and if things don't change I'll cancel that too.
Looking at it from an unbiased view, for many people FP+ is really bad. Some do like it.
the disconnect comes from the apologists who simply can't comprehend anyone else would tour differently than they do.
Y'know, I'm new around here, so I probably shouldn't butt in. But, if you're interested in my perspective as a newcomer who doesn't travel to Disney often (we used to go every year, when I was growing up, and then for awhile after college, but we haven't been back in about six or seven years), this is it:
It seems less like the FP+ supporters "can't imagine how other people would tour differently," and more like the FP+ detractors have a very particular way of touring that they refuse to lose. Which is understandable--I totally get that. If I were accustomed to vacationing in a certain way, I would definitely be hostile to a new system that threatened to take that away or made it significantly more difficult. Seems like human nature, to me. Especially when people pay so much money for these vacations.
But, I don't think that means the FP+ supporters have some kind of "disconnect." I think it just means they are having different experiences, based on different vacation plans/styles (which is kind of the whole problem with these anecdotal threads). Yes, some of the supporters should empathize more with the people who are having a hard time, but the unhappy people should probably be willing to adjust expectations and be more flexible.
Which is a tall order, undoubtedly. As I said, having something you enjoy taken away really stinks. (And I'm sure I'm ignorant about a lot of it--I don't know what a "double dip" or a "bounce back" are, for example. Heck, I can't even imagine swinging a trip to WDW once a year!)
But, it seems like the people most bothered are folks that expect to visit the parks at any time of year--regardless of crowds--and ride any rides they want, multiple times per day, without much delay. I must have been doing it wrong for the 15-20 times I've been to WDW, but that seems like an impossible pipe dream, with or without FP+.
