So, we've been staying in 1 bedrooms for several years now. Absolutely love the full kitchen, laundry, extra space, etc.

This was an extra trip, so we said we would try a Studio @ Boardwalk, as it's been years since we've stayed in one, and kids wanted to sleep in a bed next to us. LOL!

Since we didn't have our full kitchen, that meant 3 meals a day in restaurants (yuck!), and so by day 2, we were done. We did have a fantastic dinner at Be Our Guest restaurant and loved the Boardwalk Pizza window, but I cancelled a whole slew of meals for the rest of the week, and we ate sandwiches for breakfast and lunch, as we also have low blood sugar and dietary issues, so we need protein, fruit, etc.

This was a very difficult vacation for us in the studio. We felt cooped up, seriously missed cooking our meals and all around didn't enjoy our trip as much as we do in 1 bedrooms.

The one good thing was that our view was incredible (pool view facing Swan and Studios!), room was spotless, check-in was efficient, parking was great as they were on parking restrictions, and we loved roaming around the Boardwalk at night, which is one of our fav things to do.

Looking forward to our 12 day stay there in a 1 bedroom this summer!

If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them, Tiger

When I bought DVC in late 1999, the idea was to get 1 bedrooms for when my mom and I traveled, we could spread out and relax. She kept saying I was nuts to buy it. I bought enough points to go twice a year for 5 or 6 nights, we alternated between OKW in the spring and BWV in early December. Around late 2003, I booked an "extra" trip for MNSSHP and we stayed at CBR. What does she say? "I don't like only having 1 room". Didn't think I was nuts anymore......:)

I stayed in a studio at BC when I took my grandaughter on a short trip (5 days) last year and I came home and told my DH "Never again". I am spoiled by the 1 bedroom and even stayed in a Grand Villa with the whole family once. I really missed the kitchen and the extra space in the studio. I am spoiled but "worth it"!:)

Boy, do I empathize with you and the studio after a 1 BR thing! A couple years ago we went to HHI, and although we almost always have a 1 BR, we were low on points so figured a studio would be OK for a few days-wrong! We survived because we love HHI, but in our family, studios are now reserved ONLY when I have a solo trip. Otherwise it's 1 BRs for us!

We bought into DVC because we wanted bigger accommodations, kitchen a must and I told DH 4 or more is an automatic 2 bedroom, 3 or less a 1 bedroom! We had 9 over NYE and got spoiled with 6 nights in GV at BLT I now want more points :rotfl2:

We do studios exclusively when it's just the two of us. But I would never do one with more than two people.

Just 3 of us and we've always done 1 bedrooms, but this trip (Mar 14 to Apr 01) we did a BWV studio. Main reason was because of the high point cost. Not having the kitchen isn't a big deal as we don't really cook, just cereal and sandwiches. I miss having the large whirlpool tub and my daughter misses having her own room and TV; she considers the living room her room in a 1 bedroom. Anyway, I promised that from now on when the 3 of us go it will always be a 1 bedroom. For 2 people though I think the studio would definitely work very nicely.

Do you think you can swing the extra points for a 1 bedroom? ;)

It's the 4 of us, and when the boys were younger, we did 1 BRs. But now that they are 17 and nearly 15, we get 2 BRs. If my DH and I take a trip without them, we do a studio. We also get a studio when the 4 of us are taking a quick trip and are low on points. For example, we took a 3-night trip for my 40th birthday and had only enough points for a studio. We picked OKW for the size and the 2 queen beds. It worked fine for 3 nights, but we couldn't do it for a longer trip. Even though we enjoy the 2 BRs, we never use the kitchen (just a quick breakfast in the morning and a kitchenette would be enough for that) and rarely use the whirlpool (have one at home). The only thing I miss in the studio is the washer/dryer, but when we stay for 3 nights, we really don't need it.

Im kinda torn. For the first 4 or 5 years of DVC, DW and I stayed in Studios all the time, then we did a GV for a family gathering and got spoiled, dropped down to a 1 bedroom and all was still well. Now we decided to go alot more as we got older and unless we buy more points that means back to studios. We are learning to like the studios again since it means more time at our happy place but I can certainly see where those with more than 2 people would veto studios forever once they try something bigger.

DH and I couldn't find a studio anywhere at a host resort for W&D Marathon Wknd so we splurged for a 1 BDRM.

After running, I think we'll enjoy the w/d for our stinky clothes and the whirlpool tub for our tired muscles. Might be hard to go back......

I'm sorry it didn't work well for your family.

On our Feb trip we *ended* at a studio at VWL, and for us, at that time, it was fine. We had enough snacking-type of food (and bread and leftovers and etc) that we didn't have to rely on restaurants. We have blood sugar stuff too, but for us 3 true meals per day never works out while on vacation; we just get too full.

We just returned from a vacation with all our adult kids and nothing less than a 2 BR would've worked. After 3 days, even that started to feel small. Can't say we used the kitchen much but the fridge was tight with beverages for the 1st 2 days.

Studios work for us but we're mainly a duo w/ FL-based DD+1 joining us on wkends. The kitchen is nice but it's mainly stocked with beverages and holds leftovers. No medical issues - as yet - so we basically do one big meal a day or a bunch of snacks.

Once you have experienced a 1 bedroom, it's hard to stay in a studio. For us, 2 adults, we book a 1 bedroom. When our third adult joins us, we book a 2 bedroom. :goodvibes

Jealous!! ;)

We only have enough points to do studios, and that's my DH, me and our 2 kids. They're still little right now, 6 and 4, but I'm hoping in a few years, we'll be able to buy more points and be able to have larger accomodations, as they get older.

ditto
we do spend a lot of time in the room (especially if it's BW view):cloud9: and enjoy studios with only 2 ppl. we're not big eaters, and a full kitchen is wasted on us (i don't cook at home, and certainly am not going to start on vaca :confused3). b'fast is cereal, toast, bacon, micro pancakes, etc. lunch (if we even eat one) is cold cut sandwiches, frozen entrees, etc.
we will often eat dinner (more like lunch/dinner) at flippers, BRG (they do take out, btw), or in EPCOT.
we do laundry once in 10 or more days (and no, we don't wear clothes more than once:)) - either early morning while at the pool, or late night. we've no interest in the whirlpool tub (the entire sitting in bathwater concept gives me the creepy-crawlies), and don't fight enough to need that much space between us;). the only thing we really prefer in a 1 bdrm is the size of the shower - they are fantastic, but not great enough to warrant going once a year instead of twice.

more than 2 ppl means we need to laundry more often, and definately need more food - then a 1bdrm is absolute requirement.

honestly, we don't miss having a 1bdrm for just 2 of us tho.

I find this interesting because if I ever get caught up from borrowing so extensively, I WILL begin booking 1 bedrooms for DH and me because of the SHOWER STALLS in the 1 bedroom which I also prefer!:)

We always do a studio for the two of us even on our 14 night stays. We get pretty creative about meals we can make in our room (always have eggs for that protein boost in the morning) and we do a dinner or two as well just for an evening off. A kitchen would be nice but we're not willing to give up the points. When we go with DD 23 and DS28 we are now getting two studios-that way we get two bathrooms AND less points than a two bedroom. Works out really well for all of us.

How do you make the eggs?

So interesting to see how everyone vacations!

It definitely has to do with what is a priority for your family, for us, it's space, full kitchen and laundry.

We are very clean and organized (leave the room looking exactly how we walk into it), so we don't have lots of stuff around, but we like to eat dinner as a family at table, and kids like to spread out to play, and a studio doesn't really allow for that.

It's great that Disney has so many different accommodations for everyone!

Tiger :)
