Hi everyone,

First a big thanks to all who post on these boards. I really enjoyed reading up on SSR before my stay, and appreciated everyone's feedback, so here is mine:)

This was our first stay at SSR (rented points), but we have previously stayed at OKW and other non-DVC Disney resorts. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and were impressed by the cleanliness and attractive decor of the rooms and common areas, and the friendliness of the cast members. We were in Paddocks, studio room 6612, which is in the Paddocks building closest to the Congress Park section, and looked across at the CP bus stop.

Room: Very attractive and clean, upscale feeling, and the most comfortable bed!!! Unfortunately, DH was sick so I got to sleep on the not-so-comfortable pull-out... ;)

Location: They gave us two choices, this room in the Paddocks or a room in the Carousel building which was farthest from the main area. The room in the Paddocks was closer to the main pool and restaurants, but I will say that the Carousel section has an advantage of not being within viewing of the off-property, DTD, area that borders SSR. It is across from the golf course and is very pretty and quiet.

Artist's Point: We thought the food and service were good, but the wait for food was sometimes really long, and in the busy seasons this is not a big enough restaurant to handle the number of people staying there. By the way, we did the dining plan which we really liked. Even though it is too much food, we really enjoyed having a set price and not thinking about how much each meal cost.

Turf Club: This was my favorite meal of the trip (we also went to Boma, Kona Cafe, and Le Cellier). The food was great (mussels and caesar salad deserve a special mention) and the service was very good. I think what I liked most was that the restaurant was small, so it wasn't as loud as other Disney restaurants can get, and it had a quieter, "adult" feel. That said, they entertained the children who were dining very well, holding a stick horse race, but not taking away from the adults who were dining. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Pool area: I thought the pool was great, the water temp was great in both the pool and hot tub, and the Donald fountain and slide looked like so much fun for the kids. Speaking of which, mid-afternoon the cast members came by and played games with the kids and gave them temporary tattoos, which I thought was really nice (although this is probably typical of the DVC resorts). No, this pool area isn't as extensive as SAB, but its very well done.

New section ("The Grandstand"): This section is still under construction, but looks like it is getting pretty close to being done. I think the building closest to the check-in area (rooms 8501-8836) might end up becoming the most requested section in the resort. It will have its own signature pool, is within easy walking distance of the other main pool and restaurants, and will have very pretty views of the golf course all around it. I think this could end up being the nicest section of the resort.

The main negative feature of the resort is how spread out it is! Now, this might not be the end of the world when you have perfect weather and are feeling great...but, if you have bad weather (like we did the first two days) or don't feel well (like my husband did) or have small children, this can become increasingly annoying. Not the end of the world, but something worth considering. Overall, however, we really enjoyed our stay and were impressed by SSR, and I am glad we had the opportunity to stay here:)

Great post. Thanks for taking the time to share your opinion. I'm looking forward to staying at SSR this March. Your post makes me even more anxious to get there!

Great report! Glad to hear you enjoyed Turf Club - we are planning to try it out during our April trip. We love SSR and I always am pleased to hear when others feel the same way.

Couldn't agree more! I think The Grandstand area looks like an all-around winner! If I were to guess, I'll bet The Grandstand (access to the Carriage House) and Congress Park (access to DTD) will be the top two requested areas. I do know that our CP room gave us great access (with a very short walk) to the bus hub at DTD. This was useful when we went to other resorts for dinner.

Thanks for sharing!:)

Thank you for such a great report. We stayed at SSR last month and were blown away by how lovely this whole place is. We were staying in Congress Park and we really didn't think it was too much of a walk up to all of the main areas. I do agree with you about Artist Palette's size. It was extremely busy during our stay and the waits were bad. It was also hard getting back and forth with lines being all the way to the front door. We had to wait everytime for a table as did many other families. This was surprising since back by our rooms we hardly saw anyone the entire week. The busses were very busy and full while we were there which was to be expected for that time but I did notice when coming from the parks each evening that there were alot of people getting off at the CP stop and taking the path to Downtown Disney. I don't think they were actually guests of SSR. Made the busses even more crowded.

hey!! I was there the same time as you and I was in the Paddocks as well. We were in a 2 bedroom =5436. It was very nice. I was actually offered the Springs first but it wa a bottom floor and I love to sit on the balcony in the mrning with my coffee so we chose the top floor at the Paddocks instead. We were happy because we were the first bus stop so that made us feel good knowing we would always have a seat!! And the walk to the main pool was less than five minutes and the quiet pool was right beside our building. We loved the flat bread at Artist point but the place is really small and I can't imagine it handling the high crowds.

Thanks for the report! :thumbsup2 All of the positive reviews makes me even more anxious for our trip in July!! :flower1:

I think you meant Artist's Pallette. Artist Point is at the Wilderness Lodge.

We'll be staying at SSR soon, so it's alway good to hear great reviews.

I agree about building 8500. I think it will be a very desirable location, looks like an easy walk over to the main building from there.

Great to hear you had a good trip! My only comment is on Artist Pallet being too small for high season. I was there during the high season and it wasn't a problem. Service was quick and seating was always available. They must staff up during the busy season.

That was a great report. I will be down there for my first SSR trip using our DVC in just a few days. I love to hear the positive and excites me more about being a DVC member.

Thanks for the great and detailed trip report! So sorry that you had rain
and that DH was ill during your stay. Sounds like you made the best of it!

So glad you enjoyed your stay otherwise~
