Was 8 days in the world, stayed at POR in the AB preferred with DW and DD5 and DD3.5

We had not been back to the world since 2003.

- Strollers are a must if you have kids younger than 7 (at least).

- Garden Grocer was perfect! Saved us a lot not buying breakfast, bottled water and morning snacks every day.

- It was way busier this year at the beginning of May than when we last went (2003). Rope Drops were packed, headliners like TSM and Soaring had 30 min. wait times almost immediately and by noon even the shows were packed with people lining up 30 min prior to each show to get in (Disney Junior, Belle, Little Mermaid, Nemo, Fest LK).

- Buses are a double-edged sword. They are convenient but unless you leave your resort midday or the park in the late morning you are packed in like sardines with your kids on your laps and the men (like me) standing so others can have a seat.

- Jedi training is a must if you have any kids between 4-10. You also HAVE to get there early to sign up or you will miss out.

- TSM is overrated. There, I said it. I liked it, I really did. It was fun but it was simply not worth the rush at RD or the massive standby lines people seemed willing to embark on. 80 min by noon? Who would stand in line for that long without feeling like they had just been fooled into wasting their time??? Luckily we FPed it but still felt like we had missed out on other fun things planning our RD and morning strategy around it.

- Mickey meet and greet at the Mainstreet Theatre was HIGHLY underused and was so much fun. We were leaving the park at 1:30pm and the wait was posted as 15 min. It took all of 5 min until we met the Mouse and Minnie. It was private, intimate and they took their time. This wait time can only grow!

- Fantasy Land upgrade looks good, from what we could see (not much) but they are really moving on it.

- Dumbo and the Carousel were both wildly popular with our girls. I could not have predicted it, but they were MUST SEE attractions (much to my chagrin).

- Ak - show up send a runner to FP EE or Kali and then send the rest of your group to Safari. The park is yours if you do this!!

- The Princess Breakfast at Akershus is a rare treat and we felt was worth every penny. Tears were brushed away from some happy grown ups' faces, I can tell you.

- IF you are with older kids (or on a date night thanks to some helpful family members) get caught at Splash or BTMRR while the Electrical parade goes by. It cuts off this little area COMPLETELY from the rest of the park so no one else can get in. This allows you to run back and forth between these rides with little or no wait. We witnessed this happen and enjoyed multiple rides on both of these attractions while the parade wound by!!

- Midday swims and naps are a god-send. With a little self-restraint you can have a way more fulfilling evening with the lighter crowds.

- Cirque De Soleil is incredible. Still.

- Soaring is the best thing Disney has done in the past 10 years. My dd5 rode it 3 times with some smart FP -ing and loved it more than any other ride she went on. So did I. Unlike TSM this ride is worth the RD and FP planning.

- POR was beautiful, fun but too big and busy. We went to FW to do HDDR and it was like we were home. Next time we will get a cabin there.

- HDDR was a Blast. It is worth the ridiculous price. Top notch corny dinner theatre, highly recommended. Six-Bits was hilarious.

- Magical Express is easy and fun. Both ways.

- Those Balloons with the mickey head inside the clear plastic balloon? Expensive yet cheaply made. Ours deflated soon after purchase. Mylars would have been a better option.

- Disney is great. We won't be going again for another five years so I'll probably be off the boards until I get the itch again in another three years. Thanks for all the help planning!

I don't have children so cannot comment on those remarks, but otherwise pretty much agree with everything here. Except that I won't be going back to WDW in five months.

Can you tell us more about this??? Which direction was the parade going the night you did this? Where were you exactly when this happened and about what time???

Thanks!

So glad you had a special trip....I got a little lump in my throat when you described your Daddy tears. I'm the Mom of two princesses so I totally know what you are saying about this...have cried many, many times on our Disney trips while witnessing our princesses interact with the Disney princesses and other characters. Pure magic!

Sounds like your famz had a great time. WL is a fantabulous resort; we were put off by the spread of POR (this goes for CSR as well).

Thanks for the info on Garden Grocers, we are looking into this service for our trip in June.

Been there with the young ones, now get to enjoy the World with older kids DD17 and DS12. It is a whole new world, as someone once said.

The stroller is necessary only if your child requires it. My DD hasn't used a stroller since she was 4 and has been perfectly fine without it. It is a case of know your own child and do what is best for you.
Also I do agree with you some on the TSM. No way would I wait over an hour for this ride. What I have experienced though is the stand by line isn't always as long as they say it will be and fast pass isn't always that fast because there can be so many people returning at the same time. Once it took about 20 minutes to just get to the steps to go up to the line that goes over the ride.

I have to disagree. The clear plastic on the outside of the balloon is not your normal balloon... it is a hard plastic that we found almost indestructible. We bought our at the beginning of the week & tied it to our stroller. DD was 1 1/2 at the time beat that thing up like it was nothing & it held up the entire week. In fact, as we were waiting on ME to go to the airport to head home, we gave it to another family who was just arriving because it still looked brand new & had not deflated at all.

We thought they were well worth the money :confused3

It sounds like a wonderful trip :wizard:
In regard sto the balloon - ours lasted OVER A MONTH before it STARTED to NOTICABLY deflate! So I wonder if it was just a fluke? Or perhaps there was the tiniest blemish or hole in it? Or maybe it is hit of miss?

I'm glad that you had a wonderful time! We love Ft. Wilderness! I'm sure that you will have a wonderful time in the cabins.

You had some really good tips/tricks that worked out very well for your family.

I'm sorry that you didn't have any luck with the Mickey head balloons. You probably could have taken it back, because my guess is that it was defective. The balloon we brought back in 09 literally lasted three months. I didn't think it was EVER going to die.

Once again, I'm glad that you had a wonderful trip!!

Excellent insight....thank you so much for sharing!! Love the tip about getting caught at BTMRR and SPLASH.:woohoo:

You can still come and go to this area. It's not completely blocked off, there's a little walk way by the water that takes you to Liberty Square and the rest of the park.

Thank you for all the info.

Mickey/Minnie line was short.. what about the Princesses? Did you FP or wait? When we were there in December we waited so long to meet the Fairies so we HAVE to see the princesses this time according to my 3 year old.

- Soaring is the best thing Disney has done in the past 10 years. My dd5 rode it 3 times with some smart FP -ing and loved it more than any other ride she went on. So did I. Unlike TSM this ride is worth the RD and FP planning.

I could not agree more. We stay in the Epcot resort area so I am able to run over and ride it almost every day. LOVE IT!!!!

I'm so glad you had a good trip. I'm also glad my DH wants to go back next year. None of us wants to wait 5 years. I thought it would be a once in a lifetime trip!

We loved HDDR, too! I was thinking we'd get the QSDP next time but my kids loved HDDR & we may have to go with the reg DDP.

RE: Waits first thing in the morning- I thought all the waits first thing in the morning were inflated when we were there in April. 30 minute waits were actually 15-20.

Tip RE: people lined up for shows: We saw people lining up early for shows, too. For Disney Jr, we saw people lined up but went into Little Mermaid which had a short wait. We saw Little Mermaid & then walked right in Disney Jr. We saw people lined up for Beauty & the Beast. We took a restroom break & came back & walked right in. Of course, this is only good for you if you don't mind where you sit. I'd rather sit in the back than wait.

RE: Buses. I'm contradicting myself. I'd rather wait for a bus than stand. My DH & I each had a kid on our laps. I did not want to stand up. I stood up once & thought my back was going to kill me. After that, we waited a few times for buses and monorails. I never thought the wait was too long for the next bus.

RE: TSM is overrated. I would not want to wait 80 minutes in line for anything. Rope drop & FPs are the way to go. We rode TSM twice- once at RD w/ 20 min wait (posted 45, I think) and then again with our FP (which we got 1st). We could have gotten another FP but DD wanted a FP for RNRC & then we took a break.

OH I'm so glad to hear that about Akershus. We are taking my DD there for lunch on her birthday (it will actually be on the DAY of her 4th birthday) and I can't wait. she loves the princesses. I'm sure I will be one of the adults wiping away tears. I'm such a sap lol.

As for the balloons I'm thinking maybe there must have been a defect too because we had two of them on our last trip and they both lasted at least two months after we got home. They only deflated once... when we got home and moved them from the van to the house in december. that cold air just shrunk those balloons right down haha but once inside they popped back up and lasted the longest time. I thought they would never deflate lol.

Glad to hear you had a good trip overall and thanks for the tips. I'm going to keep those in mind for our trip in September.

About what time did you guys leave during the day for naps/swim? and what time did you head back? I'm planning on doing this because DD will only be 4 and she'll get tired out but I'm trying to figure when the best time would be without seeming like we are cutting our morning off but also not ending up back at night for two hours or something

The stroller is necessary only if your child requires it. My DD hasn't used a stroller since she was 4 and has been perfectly fine without it. It is a case of know your own child and do what is best for you.

ITA, my DS went to WDW at age 4 for the first time and wanted no part of a stroller!

Sounds like a great visit and all sounds accurate. Was just there in March (3/19-3/27). Being spring break I expected the worst but it was not bad at all. We always hit rope drops so the parks were all ours for 2 hours mots of the days, with the exception of TSM, which we of course got fastpasses right away, but also rode standby at park opening, so we rode it 2x that day. We are not going back to 2013 or 2014 and it seems so far away. Boo.

OP, thanks for taking the time out and share your visit. It seems that you and your family had a great time. Thanks for all the tips:goodvibes
