Just back....some observations and opinions

It is fine as long as those who smoke stick to the appropriate areas but there are those idiots, and I am going to call them that, who don't. I don't want my kids to have to breathe their noxious air. Not because it is vile but because I don't want them to have to end up in the hospital with an asthma attack triggered by the smoke that was blown into their face by someone who could not wait to find a smoking area.

I know there is no law agaisnt smoking...and I appreciate people who are respectful of smoking around people who don't smoke...The problem that I have with this is I HAVE to breathe....you choose to smoke. Breathing is not a choice...I, along with my children have to do it to live...Why should we have to be subjected to something you choose to do? (and when I say you I mean all smokers not LadySiren specifically)

exactly, and the posters who say they have no problem lighting up in the bus, boat or other lines and will make faces back etc, well that is just plain rude.

Oops, sorry about that. :flower3:
No problem, I've noticed the car related screen name will do that ;)

Nice post!! And welcome to the disboards, I see you are semi new. Oh this thread is only one of several that people get mighty mighty about. Relax, have a drink, and enjoy.
Yep, also beware of pool hopping, refillable mugs, & bathrooms :rotfl:
And you might be right on free dining, but I already booked BB last year, so I need another excuse ;)

Oh, I can totally understand the non-smokers who don't want to smell the by-products of our habit. Stinky? Yup. Bad for you? Yup. But illegal? Nope.

There are those of us who smoke that try our hardest to abide by the rules so we don't impose our bad life choices on others (yes, I'm willing to concede that this is a very bad and dangerous addiction). But I'm also somewhat irked by the fact that those of us who do try to be courteous about our smoking get painted with the same broad brush because of the bad apples.

If I am in a smoking area and I'm not actively blowing smoke in your face, you don't have any room to complain, especially if you decide to walk in the vicinity. Sorry - I reject that idea as nonsense. Not to sound harsh, but I don't answer to you. Your morals and beliefs may not be the same as mine; therefore, as long as I'm not breaking the law or Disney's rules, you don't get to judge me. And if you do, I'll simply smile and take another puff off my cancer stick.

I guess I'm just disappointed that there's so little tolerance these days. You can see this very thing on other threads here on DIS. Go look at the People of the Park thread if you don't know what I mean. When did it become okay to pass judgment on someone, even if they're trying their hardest to obey the rules and be courteous, simply because they're smoking? When did we decide it was fine and dandy to take photos of people without their consent and post them as an object of ridicule on a website that's likely trafficked by hundreds, if not thousands of people? That's not the America I grew up in but it's the one we live in now. Yeah, okay - I sound like that old mom-apple pie-and-Chevrolet commercial, but it's my right to do so, dangit! :rotfl:

Eeesh, stepping off the soapbox now...going to go smoke my cigarette outside, since that's the only place it's allowed around my house. ;)

Gee has anyone used the words self righteous in these threads?:rolleyes1

Smoking in non-designated areas? My pet peeve! :headache:

Can you say, "Cancer?" Been there, done that and "No," I don't want to inhale your smoke.

Really? The poster not wanting their child to have a debilitating asthma attack because of exposure to someone smoking in a non-designated area is "self righteous"? Are you serious? :sad2:

see. that is just it. You will leave the comfort of your home (maybe not by your choice) so there is no smoke/smell inside, BUT smokers posting on here have no issues lighting up in a line since it isn't at the parks. Those lines may not be huge compared to inside the parks, but you are pretty close to others. I know, some idoit burned my arm with one.

To me, as long as people smoke in the designated areas, I don't really care. It's your health, you do what you want! But, if somoene did smoke in my face while I was waiting in line, I would surely say something. It's just not respectful.

I skipped a few pages of this... *but*... we went the same time as you! Well, we spent Sun-Fri in the parks, and Sat at Daytona, but it was around the same timeframe.

As a smoker, I agree smokers should only smoke in designated areas. Boy were some of those tough to find, but both my dh and I stuck to smoking only in those areas. However, while in one of those areas I did have a parent go on a rant about smokers... in the smoking area. It started with him telling his kid to get out of the smoking section, that it was "disgusting." Okay, I agree with that, but he went on and on ranting IN THE SMOKING SECTION for no less than 3 minutes. Seriously?

I did not notice the rudeness from the international visitors or CMs (well, one CM, but it wasn't majorly rude).

My pet peeve is the people that would stop in front of the stroller, or gather right in a path of travel. Also, when two people are heading straight towards each other, the able bodied adult that doesn't move for the family that's obviously together...making 3 people and a stroller move rather than moving (and I'm not on a mommy rant, because when I went alone for FPs I was polite and moved out of the way for strollers and wheelchairs).

In regards to common sense of not smoking - I would think that it's common sense not to smoke unless there is a specified sign saying you CAN, not that you can't since it's clearly laid out in the documents you get that smoking is only permitted in designated areas.

But who reads paperwork anymore...
Those would be the documents you sign in conjunction with renting your resort room, correct? I'm not aware of any documents - requiring signatures or not - which provide ANY information on smoking restrictions in locations other than the individual resorts.

Do you mean the park maps? Great. They indicate designated smoking areas IN the parks. Nothing, anywhere, documents smoking restrictions in other outdoor locations - walking through a parking lot, or the trail from Wilderness Lodge to Fort Wilderness, or Downtown Disney, or between DHS and Epcot...

For that matter, any documents a Guest signs in relation to their resort stay have NO information about smoking allowances at OTHER resorts. And, oh, by the way - recently somebody pointed out that if you don't allow charging on your room key and don't want automatic checkout - you don't sign any documents!

I would never rant about smokers smoking in a designated area. However, my sons have asthma and I would be (and will be) very upset if someone smokes in their presense in a line or something. I also hate when people smoke at the doorway of a restaurant or office building. Thanks, I am so happy to walk right through your smoke!!!

I really wish that smoking restrictions would be increased to the point that future generations would never take up this offensive and unhealthy habit. I grew up with smoking in my house and I hope it never comes back to haunt me health-wise . . .

But people should be nice to each other, both in person and on the internet. Should, being the key word . . . :flower3:

That drives me crazy!!

People who smoke can be somewhat dim, because sometimes they will smoke just anywhere without a thought to anyone else's health. This happens at my college campus all the time. Haven't they heard by now that smoking is harmful? Probably not, or maybe they killed off too many brain cells to think logically
Well, dang it, where were you forty years ago when I started smoking? NOW I know why my brother's a(n actual) genius, while I have an I.Q. of "only" 136!

Even in my own city, I no longer go to the hockey games as just leaving the arena there are people smoking-I just can't chance another attack. I sometimes wish I had a shirt with huge lettering or a no smoking sign on it.
